Bottom gears

I need help finding a bottom gear. I have an 09' 800 rmk and i'm doing some major clutching on it. I have the stock 19/41 gears, but from what i have been told, i need to go up in gear size. I am wanting a 45 bottom, but they are on backorder until next fall. So i tried finding any bottom gear from a 42 through a 46, and i can't find anything, it seems they are all on backorder. Does anyone have a 42,43,44,45 tooth bottom gear that they could sell me or point me towards?????? Thanks.

www.hiperf.com will have what you need.

You will also need to buy a longer chain if you are going that big.

45 tooth with a 19 top is a HUGE change.

19 43 should be just what you want unless you are pulling a log sled or something.

Just curious, if someone was going to change to a 43t bottom gear, why not just change to an 18t top gear instead?

the 18 tooth wraps the chain too tight causing bind and more drag then the 19..so most go 19/42 or 19/43..quite a few guys that ride real high (over 9000 ft.) have been going as steep as 19/46..they say it really helps the sled climb and hold track speed better..............

Well, I did some checking for BROWNBEAR238 and the Polaris chart doesn't show 19/43 as and option due to chain length. 19/42 is as far as you can go with the stock 76 pitch chain. 19/46 is the next best option with a 78 pitch chain. That doesn't make sense to me so I'm asking if any of you have tried it? If a 78 pitch chain is 2 pins/ links longer than the stock 76, how in the heck does it fit a sprocket 4 teeth bigger?
Thanks for any info, we need to get him up the hill faster than the Doo's. :beer;

Besides the 2 extra links in the chain, I'm thinking that you can back off the tension adjuster enough to fit a sprocket 4 teeth bigger?

So is the 78 link chain too long for the 19/43 combination, even with the tension adjuster cranked in? If that's the case, wouldn't a 20/45 combo give the same ratio as 19/43?

It is almost the same.

19/43=2.26:1/76P
20/45=2.25:1/78P

I personally like the 20/45 over 19/43. More surface area for the chain. It is what I ran in my 05 50th 900 w/166, both 06 D9's w/166 and 08 D8 w/163.

This is what i tried first i bought a 19/43 with the 76 pitch chain the chain was so tight that I had to take the tension adjuster out to even put it together so I got a 78 pitch chain and using the 20/43 then the chain was so loose by the time I got it tight it had such a dogleg in it that I didn't like that . So I bought a 45 tooth gear now running a 19/45 with a 78 pitch chain work's great for me . From what I hear you can run a 46 in it but the clearance is tight . I now have a 43 tooth sitting on the shelf but I wouldn't feel right selling it to you because I know it won't work right for you . Hope this helps

20/43 uses a 76P chain which is why it didn't work for you.

I ran 20/43 w/76P chain in my 08 D8 but switched to 20/45 with a 78P chain.

19/45,19/46, and 20/45 all use a 78P chain.

Slightly on the side guys.

Who has put a 42 or 43 tooth sprocket in a Gen 2 case? Been getting both yes and no on possibility??

Need to get a tad lower...

In my edge case, I run 25/42 (up from 25/40), also a combination not listed in the Polaris charts. So, with a slightly stretched chain and some slight grinding on the tensioner, that 1 tooth up may fit even if not listed.

One nice bonus is that chain is straighter = less noise under decelerating

I am geared at a 19/45 and my buddy has the 19/46 the 78 pitch chain works with both alittle better with the 46. That is what I'm going, has a awesome hourglass with the 46, little more dog leg with the 45 but still better then the stock gearing and chain

I believe he went with 19/46. He is happy with how it pulls, but is still fighting to get peak rpm over 7900. I believe he is running the mtx weights with the green/pink spring and a 60/40-.36 helix. Any thoughts on that? I was thinking he should adjust his weight down, just to see if he can achieve rpm. I'm also worried he should check his compression too.

Anyone drop the top gear down to 18t? I was talking with my dealer and they told me going to 18 on top makes a bigger difference than going to 42/43 on the bottom. I was told it takes a bigger change on the bottom to notice a difference than a small change on top. So I was thinking 18/41, or maybe going 18/42 or 43, would this cause binding/ drag with the bottom gears changed also? Just curious what others are doing, and if my dealer is correct. Not looking for speed, but a good pull while climbing. It would be for a 09 700 rmk. I'm putting the sled away for the season, just want to get an idea of things I can work on over the summer. thanks

18/42 gearing

Whats the ratio for 18/42. I see 18/41 is 2.277 to 1. Will 18/41 or 18/42 work ok in a 06 900 166 track with my stock 76p chain? I want more track speed but don't want to buy a chain if i can get away with it. Guess I have kinda the same question as crazyskierwb.
