zx vs rev

Hey guys, i got some bad news, i dont think my budget is gonna allow me to buy rev. So i guess im stuck with the zx. I want you guys to be honest but not to cruel. How much better is the rev the the zx. Im not talking the xp just the old rev.

ZX

I've got a Zx and love it. Never ridden a REV but my Zx is awesome. I think its not as hard to cotrol as many say, but then again i've never riden a REV or XP. what model are you getting, what kind of riding do you do?

I liked my ZX a lot but its not as a good a rev. IMO, a good rider will still be good on any sled.

I have both. The REV will climb higher, but I feel more comfortable in technical stuff with the ZX. The ZX (for me) is easier to boondock with. This is just my humble opinion.

I have had both and I agree with Flit, but that might just be rose colored glasses. My 02 zx gave me confidence to try things I wouldn't have done on the S chassis. However 136 to 151 is quite a confidence builder in itself. That said, my rev is a better sled. Its a more comfortable position for stand up riding, the ergonomics make transitioning from sitting to standing like a dirt bike and it take half the effort to turn it.

That said, I had to educate myself on how to ride again. IMHO, it pushed a little more turning, unless you layed it over. I do think it was a bit easier to putt putt through heavy trees on the zx.

The "romance" I attach to the ZX is probably because I logged a heck of a lot of miles on it that year and became a better rider. After the Rev, it took me almost four years to log the same miles. I guess I'm not a good investor.:)

My 02 was a great sled no problems 2000 miles, my 03 coughed a rod out the front of the motor at about 1100 miles. Not real common I gathered, but it did occur on a couple machines in our general area.

I still have both. My ZX coughed a piston rod right through the sidewall. Replaced the motor and ran it for years.

My XP is gonna require a lot of relearning.

I'm not getting rid of my old ZX, it's a good piece of crap, so if there's any chance of nasty stuff happening, the ZX may be under me. I got the attitude, go ahead and roll off that mountain, I'll replace you tomorrow. Since it's not worth anything. It almost makes me want to take the rev out and trash it so I can not worry about it.

Anyone that says you can't keep up, or have fun on the ZX has a screw loose.

LOL... yup... run what ya brung dude!

There is nothing wrong with the ZX. The non-rider forward transition on a ZX can helped with a Boss seat. That really helps the riding position and the transition from sitting to standing not to mention looks cool and is comfortable!

The crew that I ride with has intentionally bought ZX chassis (including myself) for a few reasons. They handle great (non of us really like the feel of a REV), you can get them for cheap, we normally break chit so parts are easier to get and like a few others have said, you don't have near the pucker effect versus riding a $14,000 sled.

Buy a ZX, put a Boss seat on, nice riser and ride the HELL out of it!

Good luck

Yeah, im thinking of a 151 for trach length. The sled is gonna be used as more of a boondocker then a climber. Id only probaly go to the mountains with my buddies about 3 or 4 times a year.

As Albertaboy said we all have zx chassis the oldest being a 2000 and newest an 03. Ab used to ride a polaris and finally woke up. As far as the zx vs rev vs xp, myself I like the zx have tried the rev do not like it found it heavy and plow like. Did like the xp thou, just don't like the cost to fix them when you hit a bump. My zx has 7600 k's on it and it's been bullet proof, and it's a great all round sled.

Like others have said, a Boss highrise seat and taller more forward bars and a Mountain Fit hood (stock hood is WAY heavy) and you have a pretty nice sled. Pretty durable and they handle in the powder nice.

Up here where i live a 2001 summit 800 is still worth 5000 dollars. its unreal. thats not even a mint one.

man where the hell do you live? you can get rev's in good shape for less than that. my 04 440 was 3g's last year, came trail converted.

X3
I had a Boss hi rise on my old ZX with raised bars and the ride was a lot of fun.
The learning curve from the ZX to my REV was shortened dramatically because of the set up I had on the ZX.

Sometimes I even miss the feel of the ZX........until I really want to pull a steep, powdery hill! :D

It's a big difference IMO. If I was getting something in the ZX years....it would be a Polaris Edge chassis

One thing nice about the zx is that is a lot easier to work on, the engine is wide open and easy to get at. The rev you need some "special" (cut off allen key) tooling just to tighten up the Y pipe.

I was for the most part happy with mine. I broke a piston and cracked the crank case. But that was after 4200 miles of wo mountain riding. It still ran though; had to run it up a few hills on they way out!!
