Son is stepping up from a YZ 85. Is there any other choices than a 125? Does not race rides on our track/cabin/for fun.

are there years that are better than others buying used of the F's?

what should i look for when buying used? Little scared of the maintenance/repairs.

thanks

You are right to be scared, things can get really expensive in a hurry. There are tons of 250fs with lots of hours but I wasn't willing to take the risk of having basically a totalled bike if it blew up so I bought a KTM 200sx instead, it's a really fun bike and it's still on the original clutch and piston (2004 model that I bought new in late '05)

I sold my 04 250f last year. As long as you keep up on the maintenance they aren't bad. If it burns down you are looking at a pretty expensive rebuild. If he isn't ready for that big of a jump in bike sizes kawi makes a kx100 2 smoker. If you go with the 4s just change the oil frequently, always ride with a clean filter, and keep an eye on the valves. Be prepared for a valve job after the second adjustment.
