Yamaha apex or ski-doo summit???

can't say directly for Apex vs Summit...
but, i went from 05 Summit X 151 to a 08 turbo Nytro 162 (with a lil wt loss)..

the nytro is heavier, no denying it..
but the fun you get with a turbo is really REALLY hard to beat.

i honestly do miss my Summit on occasion..the 4s doesnt have the quick "braap" to hit lil jumps or w/e. either due to weight or the 4s vs 2s, what i'm tryin to say is the 2s hits harder, quicker w/ a quick grab of the throttle.

when the 4s is stuck...its a pig and stuck. when the 2s is stuck...its typically, yank on ski a few times and go. i think the wt is mainly noticable when stuck. when on the throttle and actually riding its much harder to tell their is a ~45-55 lb difference.. (my summit wt wet vs nytro wt wet)

then, if you bring up reliability....well, obviously...4 stroke wins... even with a turbo.
cost to ride a 4s is less ... (granted sled + turbo is a lot spendier) 50$ a year for oil vs 100-400+? for 2s oil (depending on how much you ride and oil you use).

fuel consumption between the 2 will prob be pretty close (turbo 4s vs 2s)..you use more fuel when boostin. :D

I'll also say, i wouldn't be on a 4s w/o a turbo (or some sorta boost)...
The fun factor AND reliability is very very imporant to me now.. and, well, the turbo 4s definatel has both.

it takes some time to learn how to ride a 4stroke, specially turbo. but in the end, i'm happy with the decision i made...and happy with the Nytro.

Obviously a 20k $ sled vs a ~13k $ (invested) sled has something to do with it, another 7k $ in a 2 stroke chassis/engine would probably be a blast too... But if i'm walkin on pins n needles everytime i pull the cord...it wouldn't be worth it for me.

I KNOW THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 2. my dad was sayin that people who have turbos that hes talked to, always have problems with them. but i watch thunderstuck and it seems like they all have apex turbos and not the summits. is the apex a 4 stoke? and the gas situation...can your ride all day like you can on a non turboed sled? i would just think you would have less time to ride but more hp obviously and faster too.. my budget is way under $20k. im prolly gunna go used. i have been riding an '07 summit adrenaline 151" and just fell in love with it. i guess what im just tryin to get at is am i gunna been throwing *** loads of money into fixing a turboed sled vs my summit where i have had NO problems, and am i gunna be using a **** ton more gas?

and i do alot of back country DEEP powder riding and hillclimbing.

I'd say some more research is needed on your end first.

And yes the Apex is a 4 stroke.

If your getting an Apex does it have to have a Turbo?

And with the gas situation your talking about, sounds like you CAN ride a whole day on the current sled. Which either means your days are short or you don't ride in DEEP powder like you said.

RMK Seven...and M1000 in sig... looks familiar... ROFL

4 stroke turbos, failing all the time??? hmmm no.

now 2 stroke turbos is COMPLETELY different... i think 2s turbos have come a long way in the last couple years, but still no where near bullet proof.

there are 4s turbos with more miles on 1 oil change than some 2 stroke engines have before a rebuild/burndown/crank, etc. :P

An Apex is a very heavy sled...stock...and even dropping a bunch of weight it will still be quite heavy..

my advice, ride the summit. do some light mods..learn what its like to throw $ away on something a bit cheaper. hehe when you go sell it after you've invested 5-6k on top of what you paid for the sled...and you're LUCKY to get even 1/2 of its total... you will then wonder "wth am i doing in this sport." lol just to buy another sled and do it all over!

Well put!!!! This sport cannot be approached with a conservative financial mentality. You either spend it to play, or sell it to save. But those deep powder days, oh so worth it!!!!!!!!!!:D

I would go with the apex turbo.

I have one, so far as milage goes when you are not under boost the mileage is very good. I usually ride about 25% to 30% more miles than the rest of our group just because I do not stop and watch much and I have always made it back out with my fuel.

When we ride places that there is no trail riding before we get to the mountain riding I will use the fuel faster because when you are into the turbo you are using a lot of fuel.

It has been very dependable, it is heavy but in the powder they ride so nice it doesn't really matter. They are much harder to ride than the light sleds in the spring and on hard snow.

Dude if you have the money you won't regret going with an Apex Turboed. I have a REV and my dad has the Turboed Apex. That thing will do circles around my sled all day long. No big issues with the Turbo either. I have had more problems with my REV then any of our other Yamaha sleds including the Apex. If your going to dump money in a sled make it a Yamaha because they are so much more fun to ride when you can actually make it up the hill in 2 feet of fresh powder. Yeah I still like to ride my sled but i would rather ride his any day of the week.

oh pud, such wisdom behind those wide set yet crossed eyes......lol when are you gonna pony up and buy that polaris that's been haunting your dreams?

well when they change over to a new chassis id look in to a polaris again but im not a fan of the d7 rode it enough just feels like going back into the future from the rev....:D

summit all the way apexes are tanks umm.. 600 pounds or 450 ;)

come on, let's give the apex a fair shake here buddy. its' 700ish pds wet and ready. your doo comes in at a healthy 500ish pds wet and ready. get it straight.

SKI DOO STUD - If you don't know that an Apex is a 4 stroke, you don't have the mechcanical apptitude to own a turbo anything! Sorry, but all turbo'd sleds need a fair amount of tinkering.

Snowmobiles are NOT an investment -- you gotta pay to play.

I am a Yamaha man who rides a combo of trails and back country hill riding..... I'd get a Summit 800 154" before a Turbo Apex as they have more control. But Turbo Apex will outclimb anything elso hands down......

300+ hp at altitude vs. about 100-110hp at altitude

get it straight noob:D
