xp really disappointed me today

rode tog today, wow!! its being described by the guides that work there as epic, ppl are sayin the most snow in years.... anyway the xp blew, kept eating snow, recoil had no tension, rear shock was at 5 and sitting extremely low, maybe blown shock.. its been one thing after another with this damn thing

how can i keep the snow out of the engine. It was horrible today, i actually left and went home. can anyone point me in the right direction?

Sincerely,
very disgruntled xp owner

eating snow

I hate to say it, but mine has been really fantastic. I think dealer has more to do with it than most people will realize, or admit. My dealer put over 600 miles on one last year for BRP.......Eating snow, cut a piece of open cell foam and cover w/ the same fabric that is on your intake. Just place it under hood, and over intake, no snow buildup. Shock, can't tell you, I have not had a problem w/ belts etc., but only at 160 miles of deep deep.

3rd ride on new motor--runs great-no problems with snow-rode over the hood all day and never cleaned the intake and never had a problem, there is a valve on bottom of intake in the front..we drilled a 1/8 hole in the front and put some silicone lube on the shaft..ours were a little sticky..no belt probleme in almost 200 hard miles.

Just got back on my XP163 went 86 miles. Took alot of extra gas. This bike ran perfect. Would out climb any stock bike on the mountain. The turbo 800 and 700 dragons out climbed along with the turbo yammys. But no stock bike could touch it. We even tried different riders. This bike is awesome.

Just back from the Northern Utah DooTalk ride. Epic snow! I went through 4 belts in 3 days of hard riding. I'd complain, but they are all free. If you are talking about the intake getting clogged up with snow its an easy fix. Two
2.5" flow rites in the back side of the airbox. Completely cures the bogging in deep, deep snow. On the down side we had 2 XP's go down today with broken drive shafts.

On the rear shock, take it to the dealer, and have him charge it up to 300lbs. Ours were 150 when we got them, and after he charged it, and set the spring on 3 or 4, and stiffen up the shock. Should take care of the problem for ya. Get your clutch set up by somebody who knows what there doing, and you'll love the sled. Make sure your arms arn't sticking in the primary clutch. Try the 253 belt until the new one comes out. I've had pretty good luck with it so far. Over 300 miles on it so far, and it still looks brand new.

Thats all you had, LOL. Welcome to the club, brace yourself, the storm is coming ! Get ready to do some engineering ! Welcome !

shiz, one of your own boys has some problems and from what I can read isn't trashing the sled and your getting your panties in a bunch. help the fugger out trinity, ya dumb pric*. one little slight comment on your xp's and you get so wound up it's funny. we brought 22 brand new xp's up here to canada and resold them, and I've only heard of one of them with problems. some run very well, others have been ok.

You say "with same fabric that is on your intake", does anyone know what this material is called or where it can be purchased?.

thanks!

I was simply being entertaining. Please forgive. I love my XP and if you have read anything on here, you will most likely find one of my posts bragging up the XP. Mine came from a great dealer. All I have done is put gas and oil in it. My dealer cut pieces of foam from the old 670 Summits to place over the stock intake in the pow. Works great. Cheers to my Canada neighbors:beer;

by the way, I do lurk on here alot so that I can TRY and find some answer's or solutions to help the guys that bought these xp's off of us. It's pretty comical to see how wound up you doo boys get, especially seeing when summit boy voice his displeasure. He has every right to bag on the sled if it ain't running properly or falling apart. Lay off him. I know this statement is going to get you wound up as well, but that's about par for your course, so bring it on.lmao

We must all be a bunch of pansies. For years, we expected to fix all the factory crapp, now we just buy new sleds and think they're like new cars. Surely it'd be better if this sport was like street bikes where nothing ever breaks and we get new product about every 10 years. God knows I'd like to be riding a '97 670 or 700 that was bulletproof. That'd be lots more fun than riding a new 430 pound sled with 150hp.

Sled sales peaked in 97 so the manufacturers that intend to be in the game as survivors are putting out some exotic changes...lots of new tech and we have to R and D it and QC it. Why? Well, note how Honda does NOT change anything much on their dirt bikes or anyone in that arena. Lot more sales and less technology thrown at it. A dealer really needs to sell 100 sleds to play in the game and the manufacturers who intend to survive and own the sled biz are really modding them. I am glad. I love my XP. Wow. What a sled. Ok...I got a list of issues to tend too but like the previous writer mentioned...it sure beats my old sleds. Goose

I understand a bit of what you say Goose , but if we are doing the R & D, and basically doing the QC, and the clutching tweaks and cutting vents and everything else 2 questions pop to mind. 1. what are they spending the profit from sales on, and 2. where do they believe our tolerance to pay $$$ for new tech $hit will top out at, with no expectation of performance on their part.
All the manufacturers are doing this, cause we keep telling them we're OK with it. Good advances for all 4 of them lately but I think we're making a mistake by all our posts about how we know these things are substandard, but we don't mind cause they're better'n last years. So next year they make a few changes, don't fix the crap from last year, raise the price again and market the hell out of it.
$15,000 for an 800 CC sled that we all know has got all kinds of durability and longevity issues. WOW, if they can't make a profit in that business, they better get out. JMO.

JMO.

# 1 Marketing, they spend more on marketing than R&D and QC

# 2 We will keep paying as much possible and defending it until we stop buying.
