xp or D8 or M1000

I totally agree IQ turbo hound, i have been stranded 1 to many times, and my sled after one year is folding like a tin can all over, my dealer has took care of me like crap and has never had my sled more than 2 days, i hate when they keep it short then i have to put miles on my own instead of a buddies back up on the next ride, anybody with a dragon wanna trade me?;)

ct XP is the lightest sled in the trailer and the heaviest in the field when it packs the boards and suspension full of snow.

They weighed the sleds after the ride in the deep powder shootout, and the XP gained somewhere around 30lbs. I think Poo was 2nd only gaining around 35-38lbs, but the other 2 were close to 50 or 60lbs of snow under them. The ported track lets allot of the snow out.

That would make it the lightest in the trailor, and even lighter after a few hours of riding than the other sleds. :beer;;)

I had the same question last spring. I'm 6'1'' and 210lbs and I ride in Eastern Idaho. Mainly tight/technical areas. I rode all 3 sleds in stock form and I also rode a Dragon and M1000 w/an SLP single pipe setup. In stock form, all three were excellent sleds. All handle differently, but all worked great in deep snow. I feel more comfortable on the traditional style chassis (long time polaris rider, wedge and edge chassis). I currently ride a heavily modded 800 edge w/185 HP and 450lbs. Too me, the XP and Dragon reponded almost too quick to my feedback. When standing on the sled, I wasn't as comfortable (more so on the XP). I liked the Dragon and M1000 feel the best. In stock form, I felt the Dragon had the best motor for my riding style. It was clutched good and got on the snow really quick. The XP was also good but I couldn't get used to the rider forward feel. (didn't spend much time as some have suggested, but I bent the rails after a few minutes in powder and I felt terrible. We actually towed the sled out b/c the drive shaft broke later in the day).

I was going to get a Dragon, but after riding the M1000 w/SLP pipe and clutching package, there was no question to me. I felt the M1000 was a sleepy sled for a 1000 in stock form, and it didn't even compare to my current Polaris mod 800. But w/the SLP additions, I was impressed w/the power in all conditions. Climbing, sidehilling, carving in powder and the great low end pull sealed the deal for me. The fact that it has close to 200 HP on pump fuel w/only a single pipe is sweet! The Dragon w/SLP mods was nice, but there was no comparison to the Cat (and I'm a Polaris guy!!)

I did ride the new '09's and that made me feel better for snowchecking the cat. I like the feel of the chassis, the new track was nice and the weight reduction is a bonus. I am a little nervous for making the switch. I've never had a Cat. I've had great luck w/Polaris in the past and my dad's had great luck w/Ski-doo. No matter what you choose, I'm sure you'll have fun!!!

Ice Man, I'm 220 pounds, The Xp is not for everyone, it's like riding a MX Dirt Bike, it’s not as comfortable to sit on and performs best when the rider stands up. If you want too bring your personal riding level to a higher standard or higher performance level try a doo, but remember the trick to the doo is to be vertical. It is not a sit down sled, Number two pick: 2008 Polaris Dragon has terrible running boards, not wide enough, this effects your stability and it’s hard to get the snow from not building up in the running boards. I would rate the sled better if this problem was fixed. Great points, The Polaris is Mod friendly and pretty reliable and has the older rider back style that is better for sit down riders and at the same time not bad ergonomics for standing up.

:rolleyes:

M1000 is a great sled in my book. Lots of low-end power. Clutching is much better than the older models too.

I don't know how long the cat dealer keeps my sled, it hasn't had to back since I bought.;)

My choice, the Dragon definately the most reliable, but for being such an underdog in some of the snow magazines its sure surprizing a a lot of people in the real world. Definately best handling on and off the trail in my book. Might not be the lightest but most likely wont need tow straps.

Second choice would be the M1000, ive riden one and its not too bad!!

Ive reconstructed too many REVs to wonder how much theyll sacrifice in streingth before they figure it out. Makes me wonder about the XP, saw one folded up last year, looked expensive!!! Dont seem to be cratering engines like they used too though.

i made an offer on a 08 D8, it was from one of our group who was killed in an avalanch in the kooteneys last year, it has a new tunnel and 123 miles but we(his brother) are $1000 away.something about the xp turned me off,to twitchy.have not tried a M1000 but my gut says yes to 200hp with relatively few mods.concerned about reliability.i ride 50% boondocking,30% highmarking,20%trail:beer;
