xp or D8 or M1000

Is this a trick to get everyone into another vs. thread or are you serious? Just kidding, if you are serious, IMO the XP. Reason; the lighter sled combined with your weight gives you a great power-to-weight ratio, and I happen to think that the XP is a really good sled. Now let the replys start about how you will need to be towed out every time and the engine is junk etc. Pick the closest and best dealer and let that be probably the heaviest influence deciding between these three excellent sleds.

Xp

XP, y pipe, reeds, porting, can, and air box, if I Had 20K I'd turbo the 1200. The Polaris 800 is not a bad sled and would be my second choice but it weighs a little more and doesn't side hill or float in the deep stuff like the doo. If you go to Revy or Eagles pass you will see that 70% of the sleds are doos, must be a reason. Turbo Yamaha's are lots of fun, I’ve had a Vector and Apex done up with MC Xpress rear mounts but the weights of these sleds take a toll on you. Haven’t tried the turbo Nitro, stock it's a pretty useless sled. To many bad days on a cat in the past so I wouldn't even think of buying one, helicopter pick ups can add up. 1st choice xp 2nd choice Polaris.

Hey Braap,

I bought a Polaris 800 and I can't sidehill at all. And all I do in the deep stuff is plow snow.:rolleyes: I rode an xp last year. I have not been tempted again. I had the hardest time trying to get it on its side, never mind staying there. Climbing, Well I think the xp does extremly well. I'm more of a playing in the trees kind of guy, and I love my D8 for that. If I was to buy another sled this year, the M8 would be very tempting, just no dealer in the area. Just my .02

Riding in western Canada I would say buy your national product, the Doo. I've ridden all the sleds and all are a pretty good product (If I didn't ride poo I'd probably have cats, tho) but, I ride poo and love them but I bent an a-arm and had a hard time finding polaris shops in canada, but there was a doo dealer around every corner! I doubt you will find any other brand with a dealer network like that in Canada. Course down here in Washington its 3 poo dealers to every 1 doo. Go figure.

NO matter what sled you get you cant go wrong. Ive rode all of last years models and it depends what kind of riding you do. Polaris has the best handling by far. I haven't seen the high mark between these sleds but all of them go good. If you have money and are wanting to do mods to the motor, arctic cat has the most gains (the m8 mainly). Polaris and Arctic Cat rated the best overall this year. The high mark of the sled isn't as important as it used to be. It all comes down to the sled that holds up now.

Tuff call!!! I would go with the best dealer that I had in my area. You will be much happier.

For me it’s the M1000. I love the way it handles and you can get a lot more horsepower out of it. I’m 220 LB 6’ 3” So I need the displacement of a 1000 :D

Amen to that statement, i wouldnt listen to people telling you which one they think is better because its bias!...

I look at it this way...last year was my first year, went out and bought a ski-dont 700 summit, cause all my friends ride ski-dont(bad idea) but it got me out there and learning how to ride....then once i was out there i was able to ride all my friends sleds, all the new ones and this is what i came up with....

Ski-dont--Have great power but IMO not very rider friendly too hard to ride! You dont ride the sled it rides you!

Poo--Great handling, good power, overall just really nice sleds, but something about it was not for me!

Cat--The second i rode an M-sled i knew right away that is what was most comfortable to me, it just fit like a glove...a match made in heaven:D

So all in all pick what fits you best, dont listen to what other riders tell you!!!!:D:beer;:D:beer;

they all make sweet sleds, minus yamaha. I ride an XP, and thats what i ride and likey alot. internet kills it but ride for a whole day before forming your opinion on the xp, takes some getting used to (coming off an 07 dragon) but i love it now, still not totally used to it though. Rode a dragon for 1200 miles before i got my xp last year, loved that too, and i wouldn't mind a CPC M8 either. All sweet sleds and you will get used to and the love the one sled you end up gettting. what dealer do you live closest too and has the best rep?

You ever come down to utah, me and a couple of the crew will show you how to ride an xp;) You ride one for a couple hundred miles and you will learn how to control that sucker. but yes, i totally agree with you that the M and the dragon are easier initially though.

you cant go wrong with any new sled

you can drive a new doo but you have to ride the cats imo

Mountain/ Deep Powder

Never spent any time on a M1000 , rode with may xp's , and have ridden the xp , many different set ups ect.
( Under performed in our group last season)
Hope they are better this year..
I hear the big bore's made them rip though...

looking to buy new sled ,witch one is better.I ride western canada,am 225 pounds.

Ice Man, I'm 220 pounds, The Xp is not for everyone, it's like riding a MX Dirt Bike, it’s not as comfortable to sit on and performs best when the rider stands up. If you want too bring your personal riding level to a higher standard or higher performance level try a doo, but remember the trick to the doo is to be vertical. It is not a sit down sled, Number two pick: 2008 Polaris Dragon has terrible running boards, not wide enough, this effects your stability and it’s hard to get the snow from not building up in the running boards. I would rate the sled better if this problem was fixed. Great points, The Polaris is Mod friendly and pretty reliable and has the older rider back style that is better for sit down riders and at the same time not bad ergonomics for standing up.

Brapp you haven't been around the right Polaris! Better Boards MAN! Too wide and your boards drag in the deep pow...and having ridden them all extensively the stock XP boards have their own equally serious issues. Of course we've fixed them as well! kick kick scrape scrape...kick kick scrape scrape...ect ect XP is the lightest sled in the trailer and the heaviest in the field when it packs the boards and suspension full of snow.

Look for this sled...you can ride it and IT WILL CHANGE YOUR VIEWS!

Amen, you hit the nail on the head!

Its funny how all these skidoo riders say that a good dealer is the most important in your decision. Could it be because after every ride that have to go get a belt or two and several other misc. backed ordered parts that failed during normal riding conditions.

I never even went to the dealer last year except to buy oil, and that you can order online. 1500 miles of no problems whatsoever goes along way in my book, especially when compared to 20 ft on the hill because your sleds built like a pop can.

I saw several xp's being towed out last year for stupid little things breaking. Yeah they might be little things but you'd think these guys would be tired of having there weekends ruined over stupid little problems, and then drive home to fix it and find that the parts are on back order or your number 21 in line for service cause every other sled did the same thing.

Reliability and durability seem to be alot more valuable than less weight, chinsey design and poor fit and finish.

On the other hand seeing these tin cans on the hill makes for some good joking and poking fun over desighn flaws.

Ride what you like, but I can bet I wont be working on anything, just enjoying what we pay so much to do.
