Xp and 07 Doo problems

Thats my point ...I buy a sled for 11500.00
and I have to play around getting the thing to run right... and not blow belts and not seize the motor and so on and so on!

I GET IT ALRIGHT....buy a used sled! Then at least I don't feel quite so jacked off when I have to fix the thing to make it run right....Ahmen
Johnny be bad
dont ya love this crap. you pay all this money an now your the mechanic and should have to fix it! i never once washed belts, clutches or any of this other crap thats been posted here when i owned polaris or yamaha, jumped on it and rode it hard. an never blew belts, my doos a great ride minus the belt crap. just i want it fixed like the rest of you guys, do you thing you should be responsible for the problems? no brp should get off there a$$es and figure it out. i have buddies with turbos that run 300 plus hp that havent blown a belt all last year. and in 250km about to be on belt 5, what a joke! and for all you guys that havent had problems wait. you will!

Don't misunderstand me, i think brp should step up and send all the customers sleds that rip and don't blow belts. We all don't like to be mechanics, but the reality is that if you owned an 06, 07, and now an 08 you know that clutching has been an issue.
I to have a turbo at 240 hp and don't blow belts but it's a Polaris. I also have an 07x 151" that had to be clutched so it didn't blow belts every 150 miles. I know own a 154" Everst and had to clutch it to get the primary from frying eggs.
I'm not patient enough to wait for Brp to step up and fix. So here was my fix on my 07 and 08. 21 tooth to 19 tooth gear, primary spring 160/290, 433 ramps(ramps that were in the rt 1000), and 16 grams of pin weight on 154" or 15 grams on 163", leave the secondary. If you bought from a good dealer he will trade you out at no cost. It works!

are you people that retarded???? here ya go, yes cleaned clutches, yes rode like a pu$$y from bottom of mountain to the top, yes to venting , the clutch is so hot you cant touch it. put snow on it and it melts and steams, get the point yet? its not a breakin problem, no oil on clutch there clean. ran polaris, cat and yamahas never ever had this many belt problems ever. face the facts boyz we have a problem!

This must be your 1st go around with Skidoo.....I've owned them since 1994 and "Clutch Heat" is a Skidoo/TRA trademark. Didn't they tell you that when you signed up ?. There's several things that can be done to minimize the TRA heat. However if you think your going to get the TRA to run as cool as lets say a Yammie you'll be chasing that dream for a along long time unless you go aftermarket.

Just looking at the TRA primary compared to any of the other 3 manufactures it's pretty easy to see why the TRA Primary runs hot....Out of ALL 4 Manufactures the TRA is the most "sensative" and requires the most "routin maintainance", if your wanting optimum performance.

You almost need to forget about what you know about Poo, Cat and Yammie clutching when it comes to the TRA

OT

LOL, Doo riders will always have to "tune" their clutches themselves. No matter how hopeful they are that Doo will get it right year after year they are left out in the cold to do it themselves. You guys are almost as pathetic as the Yammi guys. Adjust this, adjust that, clean the primary/secondary, etc.

Breakin in a belt is simply seating the belt to clutch surfaces in order to get maximum "grip" from them. Improperly seating a belt will probably shorten the belt life somewhat, but not to the extent we are seeing on the xp's.
I have never washed my belts, but generally break in them somewhat on the trail for a few miles before hitting it too hard. I have never blown a belt on any of my doos. The sheer friction of the clutches against the belt create the heat, so the best cure is to get rid of as much heat as possible. This will require ventilation, proper operation of the clutch system including allignment.
Allowing the clutches to cool once in a while is essential as well.
I hope they get these xp's figured out, cause I sure like em.

Breaking in a belt IMO is a bunch of BS, I still say belt quality! or lack there of. sure they are charging $150 for a belt, but that doesn't make it good. but the signs are sure obvious for the premise of it being the belt.
when the clutches are getting hot it may not nessissarily be the clutch, it could be due to the fact that the belt is shyte and its slipping excessivly on the pulley, this friction creates massive heat and belt wear at the same time.
it's no different then the tires on your car, compound, nylon plys, and threads mean everything. you think a set of wal-mart all seasons are gonna hook on a drag car?

I would be very interested in comparing one of these "quick blow" belts to a "tested - true" belt with high mileage on it. doing a cut away or checking the manufacture specs on them.
I've seen these problems a lot on the farm, we are always dealing with belt issues on our 400hp combines and other equipment. usually you get different results when the clutch is NFG or the alignment is out.

Has anyone measured the circumfrence of one of these burnt belts to a new one?
are they glazed when they come off or slight tacky?

Belt breakin 30 miles? LOL

I put on a clean belt, run it on the stand for about 20 seconds to loosen up the set the belt takes from storage, then ride it slowly up and down the driveway or on a flat surface for about a minute or two. After that, it's game on... but I run Polaris.
