XLT MONOBLOCK with cylinder reeds

Okay, I saw this on E-bay and my curiosity got the best of me... Thought this might be an interesting (I know, expensive) hop-up for my XLT. Looking to get more information on these cylinders on who made them and what the hot setups back in the day were for them.

It's a bare casting that needs cleaned up, ported, and sleeved. Current bore is 63mm (2.480"). The guy I got this from had custom sleeves/pistons and a stroker crank to get 990cc's. He made his own heads and reed adapters. I don't plan on going that wild, this will be something I will work at as I have the funds to get things done. I was just curious if anyone had any experience with these in the XLT form (I know there are some cylinder-reed PSI setups out there based off a 650 triple motor) with some suggestions and things to look out for. Thanks!

thats a pretty custom setup there. lol have expereince with xlt but not a case reed version. wonder if it takes a v3 reed??

i know i still got one in the box haha xlt with porting, heads, pipes, big bearing, carbs, etc. it was a animal it 10,200rpm lol

I had one in a box with a bad crank. Never did put it together. Mine was a PSI unit it used CR250 reed valves and was about 700cc. The crank was keyed and welded with 650 rods on it. They were a 150 hp motor with a 90 hp crank

Thinking this one is made by PSI. Actually have been talking a little bit to a fellow in Pennsylvania that sold this one or one like it to the fellow I bought it from after he found out from PSI what it would take to use. A LOT of machine work to the cylinder and bottom end will be in order if I continue with it.

The fellow I've been talking with actually found another of these motors at a swap meet and offered to buy the cylinder from me for what I bought it for. I havent decided yet if I want to go ahead with it or not, still wanting more info on these motors. I'll probably have enough $$$ to make a hefty payment on a new sled by the time I get done if I pull the trigger and do it.

Dont know much about the XLT ones, but I have a complete 650 based one, its a 750. Ran it for two years and liked it, pulled it for my 1200 I have now.

i had one and sold it to a guy in PA. it was a psi cylinder reed that needed the crank rebuilt. they are a pretty trick motor but if you are going to just start with the bare cylinder then you would be better spending the money on something a little newer for the same money and have a reliable sled. such as xcr 800 or something

See my previous post above, it sounds like the fellow I've been talking to bought your motor, he said he found it at a swap meet with a bad lower end. I'm leaning towards selling this guy this cylinder back to him for what I paid for it, just have get some other things done first.

I owned that same XLT motor . Its useless unless you got the pipes with it ? used a storm 800 ignition , honda CR reeds and Xlt 600 crank with 650 rods . had transfer ports hogged in through devcon putty . It won alot of races great motor . Bruce Kalhammer hand built it for me . Alot of people bad mouth him on here . Bruce had his days and loved to play the game , but built some the best motors and pipes out there hands down .
