XCR 308. or other assault rifle?

C

Somewhere between too dumb to quit and flat earth
I want to build the best varmit/small deer gun i can. It will be built with a 22-26" bull barrel, 308. Caliber, and in an ar-15 design. I want it to be extremely accurate out to about 300-400 yards. It will be built with a zeis scope, and a suppressor (already have the paperwork in)

Who makes the best upper and lower to start with? I have looked at all the manufactures like rock ricer and DPMS, but i think i want to get an XCR-m.

They will be out hopefully in a month or 2. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge in this subject?

Wow thats harsh.
How many XCRs have you pounded into the ground to be able to make that statement.
Harsh? This is the internet afterall....

XCR = Rebranded Bushmaster
Bushmaster = Worthless
therefore, if your math skills are up to it, XCR = Rebranded Worthlessness
which means XCR = Worthless

Assault rifle? You are brainwashed for sure. AR stands for Armalite Rifle, the original designers of the AR-15 series. Everything else is just a copy. My Bushmaster wotks great, same for my Armalite M4. It all comes down to how much you want to spend to make your AR a shooter or safequeen. They are all fun in the end.

all lowers are pretty much the same, a .223 with a 62g bullet will kill anything you want at 300-400yds with pin point accuracy. i had a RRA lower with a NM 2 stage trigger, ER shaw 24" 1/7 twist barrel with the bolt sent in to match the star and properly seated with a macks tool that would take out a dime at 400m all day long with 62g match ammo with no problems whatsoever.

There are some really substantial difference in the design of the XCR from the Bushmaster.
:rolleyes:

Still manufactured in the same plant, on same tooling. Doesn't matter how well you dress up a pig, its still a pig. Huh, same could be said about some shenanigans around these parts nowadays, eh?

You know, its funny how Remington never offered any AR variants until after its acquisition by Cerberus. Ever wonder why?

Accuracy all comes from the upper and barrel, It has nothing to do with the lower. The chart... http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pwswheghNQsEuEhjFwPrgTA&single=true&gid=5&output=html
I'm a big fan of colt, bravo company and lmt. Not sure who makes what you need in 7.62 though.

Ruger has never offered a AR or AR variant and had actually spoken out against weapons like it, until recently wonder why?

dude i have seen the sled you built so you may just want buy a rifle that is all ready to go

Another Ruger fanboy. I'll just bite my tongue on that one....

:eek: awesome....

Sorry, dont own a Ruger................. Point is the AR is gaining in popularity and people are jumping on the band wagon.

For a average shooter or a plinking gun any AR variant will work fine. If you are headed to Iraq or an LEO and your life depends on the weapon. Refer to the chart.

All ar's are mil spec, some have a better fit and finish than others. I good shooter can hit a target 250 yards with a rock river, bushmaster, colt, knight the list goes on and on. But I personally shoot a Armalite in both 223 and 308. Buy what you like and can afford :)

My vote is for a Springfield Socom or a M1A scout. Still a semi auto 308, but way more reliable.

I wouldn't say that, a well maintained AR series rifle is very reliable. If the AR series wasn't considered reliable...it wouldn't be in service. I spent 16 months in Iraq, put 1000's of rounds through my m-4 and I never once had a malfunction in some of most hostile conditions I've ever experienced. I beat the pizz out of that thing but cleaning the barrel, bolt carrier group and chamber every once in a while goes along way in maintaining a reliable gun.
