The only way I'd consider making it a point to go to Laramie to watch the Pokes play will only be after they kick all of the idiots off the UW board of trustees, then the new board fires the idiot athletic director, then they hire a new athletic director that realizes UW has no business being a D1 school nor wasting god only knows how many MILLIONS of taxpayer dollars on utterly horrible D1 teams, and starts producing good D2 teams that are actually fun and worthwhile to watch.
UW should have gone D2 30 years ago yet they continue to feign like "some day" they're gonna be some bigtime athletic program and they dump proportionally more money into losing programs than damn near any Big 12 school other than perhaps UT.
This is money the people of Wyoming work hard for. Why not give them something to show for it other than a POS football team and false promises?
/flame suit on
ill be at every home game. they barely beat Ohio, new quarterback needs some practice, and our running sucks something awful.
I would go to the game if I had saturdays off.ill be at every home game. they barely beat Ohio, new quarterback needs some practice, and our running sucks something awful.
Hmmm...first off Wyoming, Utah, BYU, etc. are in the Mountain West, not the Big 12. I played for Tiller in '96 and we were 10-2 that year, up to #12 in the top 25 and had the longest winning streak in the nation @ 12 games if my memory serves me right. The only reason we DIDN'T go to a bowl game that year was because we were deemed as a state that could not produce enough revenue for bowl game status. That right there is b.s. So if Wyo shouldn't be playing D1 football why should Utah be in there too? 1 outstanding season with Alex Smith in the last 10 years? What about BYU? Playing against "freshman" that have been on missions for 4 years with specialized strength and conditioning coaches @ their mission sights doesn't sound all that correct either? Seems like Wyoming holds their own against the Utah boys and girls in all sports. Rugby, baseball, wrestling, etc. bring back any memories? Didn't Wyoming beat UCLA a few years back in a bowl game? Didn't the girls win the NIT a while back? I understand your thinking, but only having 1 major university in the state there is no way the Pokes are going to drop down after what they have already accomplished! Pretty darn impressive when you consider the state population and the fact that half of the fans are hunting during the regular season! All I know is that we used to beat the he?? out of Utah and BYU when I played
Lets see, AF just played division 2 Souther Utah University and destroyed them.
According to dogmeat Wyo is a division 2 university so AF should spank them really good?
Wyo is usually a good mid major sports school. Anyone who doesnt recognize that is in short, sports retarded.
Can they compete in the SEC, pac-10, ACC etc? No, but put them up against the MAC, WAC, Sun belt, CUSA and they are title contenders.
Wasnt it just last year Wyo beat a good Virgina team (acc title contender)?
Utah, BYU are two of the TOP schools in the mountain states and attract a lot of islanders and california athletes. Its tough for Wyo to compete with these schools in drawing that kind of talent, but the pokes are tough farm boys, and always play these Utah teams tough. Yes we Ute fans get nervous about playing in Laramie sometimes...
anyways back to subject, Falcons 28-14, nothing can stop the US Air Force!!! Go birds!
The point I'm trying to make is that for no better than UW does at football it's absolutley mindless to keep dumping that much money into what ultimatley amounts to a losing program.
It makes much more sense to dump that money into a program that has a history of being above average even if it's a D2 program.
I think you forget about how much money football and sports in general brings to the university. I can guarantee that the money brought in by sports is WAY more than the money spent on it.
Wyoming has a reputation of being above average. They are not a dynasty team of the MWC or WAC champions like BYU/UTAH, but they are certainly above average and capable of putting a good run together one of these years. Why not put money into the program to try and win a few more games and get millions back from bowl games?

Werd. Just like that covered practice field they just finished building that caused the student fees to go up, yet again.I got outta there for a damn good reason
How many bowl games has UW been in the last 10 years? 3 toilet bowls or something? They had that one upset victory over Cal or UCLA, i can't remember who, but that's about it?
When was the last time War Memorial stadium was even half full? Every game I've been to in the last 10-12 years I think when they play CSU has been the only time I've seen it over half full ...
UW football is hardley a money maker ... If it was, then they wouldn't need the state to do stupid crap like give them 7 million dollars for their own "state of the art " weight room ... or actually no, I take that back, the 7 million dollar weight room came from a donor, the state has forked over money for everything else ...
it's rediculous how much money that school gets from the state for no more than they accomplish with it.
