WOW......... IS IT OVER?

My cheapass basic membership won't let me read anymore posts on here but I still get the email notifications lol. I didn't really get the cheerleader comment either but I'm kinda stupid like that. We dug each other out, had a great time, and no one threw a fit about anything. I'll take that sort of a ride all day long. It doesn't look like from the CDOT cam that WC is getting the huge dump everyone had hoped for. I'd love to go down but it's a long haul to ride 6" fresh on top of crust. Might be up for riding Wed somewhere up north if you all are up for it. Play it by ear...

Not Over

Went up pretty high today, and found that the north aspects are still full on winter snowpacks north of Crested Butte. Steepish North trees are deep enough to really get stuck in dry snow, and carve/sidehill. Above tree line the snow is still soft on top, but the midpack is basically hard wind slab.

I dug a pit at about 11500' on a North aspect and found 175cm of snow. It was a scary pit though, 60cm of sugary facets on the ground with 115cm of dense slab on top. 40cm from the surface there was a reactive layer that popped very suddenly and clean. As avy forcasts are saying it is hard to trigger a deep slab, but if you do you're focked (low probability/high consequence).

My point being, the ride into the good areas is thin and depressing, but once you can get into the sweet spots its really quite fun yet.

Ride what you can, when you can and just know its better than the couch.

We found a bit today, Nothing to brag about though, Even in the deep trees its icy and hard. 45+ when we left, Pictures show a NATURAL avy, easily 12-15ft crown, about a week old on a very slight pitch hill. Scary, the entire ridge is windloaded and half of it is ice. The sun did nothing today to soften anything. Trail is was just about bare in 5-6spots, another week of 60 degrees its gonna be mud.

"The real riders know where the real snow is, posers whine about the thread, and whine about the snow they don't have. All these dudes ride 10 to 20 thousand dollars sleds but complain about having to drive 4 to 5 hours for snow. I have friends in other sports that take 10 to 15 hours to get to on the weekends, and they do it every weekend. IF YOUR BACKYARD DOES NOT HAVE SNOW GO FIND IT. IF YOU CAN'T FIND IT START BY WATCHING DIZZ'S VIDEOS. HA HA HA."

Some real riders know exactly where the snow is, but don't feel like wasting (Very subjective word there:face-icon-small-win) the time nor money to drive 10 hours to ride 2 days. If you do, or you happen to live where it's still good, sweet, nobody is bagging on you, but oddly enough you feel the need to bag on guys who got shafted this year with a really bad season.

Sledding pushes me financially about as far as I can go... add 10 hours plus of driving to the weekend & it will push me over the edge, I just can't afford it. Also, with 2 hrs a day on 70, the last thing I want to do is go drive all over the place when I was hoping to be "relaxing".

I've broken more A arms this year than I did in the last 4... hard to be excited about the season.

That said, going riding tomorrow... and I plan on having fun!! Usually I ride till june at LEAST... can't quit THIS early!! :D

UGH! It was 70°f in Ktown yesterday, easily. Checked the weather and nothing is forecasted except a couple of small rainshowers. It's a damn good thing I have hobbies that allow me to play in the mud and dirt without destroying my sled.

I'll be the first to admit I'm a powder snob. Most of my days were in powder and I'm happy that the last powder on RE we had, I was there. Riding.

But I'm with Kaleb, I'm not going to drive 6 hours one way to take the chance that I may find some good stuff. I have a pretty good idea that it's all tracked up and beat down by now anyways.

Short season, I hope the lack of moisture does not continue. The poor snow conditions have hurt the economy and the lack of runoff will hurt it even more. From ranching to rafting, it's gonna hurt if something doesn't happen soon. We already had a wildfire just outside of Parshall yesterday.

Tudizzle and I will be off to our favorite area for the weekend and I guarantee you we will have a blast and ride a ton of untracked areas. As always, there will be pics and video for the couch potatos.

Idleglen

Kids want to go out for one last trail ride this weekend, anyone know if the Idleglen trailhead/parking is still open and rideable? Thanks Bill

Have fun. But no couch for this man. The Honda is gassed up and ready to roll. GoPro is getting charged.

Cool
Lets see some of that footage. You sent me a pm asking how to start getting noticed by companies so you could maybe pickup a sponsor or two. Making videos showcasing your riding is that foot in the door.

We were using Idel Glenn to unload. We would park on the southside of the road leading into the parking lot. Trees have shaded the Ice from melting and you could still have something to ride in and out on. But keep in mind the last day we were there was the 21st. And the trail going north towards town had bare spots showing on the 20th >>>>.

I'm trying to figure out Pinnacle. I mounted the cam on the stiff part of my fender. Having it on the helmet won't work. You gotta duck under alot of low pinyon and cedar trees.

If only the gate would have been open !!! >>>>.

I played golf this morning lol. Getting the 40 ready to go too. I love this time of year. It's winter and summer all at the same time.

Sounds Like NM. Monday I was in a dust storm/ blizzard simultaneously . Got a sunburn by the pool today 83 in Alb.

Well... This is the earliet I've ever said this, but I put the sleds away yesterday. Went riding, had soem fun, but it was the worst snow I've ever ridden (and those of you that know the places I ride know that's saying a lot :D)

Usually I ride EVERY weekend till at least mid may, then I ride a few more times in June & maybe even a july ride. We've got rocks shwing that are usually covered in december & don't show again till july... oh well.

Plenty of other stuff to do, won't be sitting on the couch:face-icon-small-win but it KILLS me to stop riding this early. Maybe with $$ saved from a few weekends off I'll save up & go south a few weeks from now, that'd be cool, we'll see.

Not hatin on the folsk that are riding, stoked you guys have a good season, COmatt came up here all spring last year, now he's getting it down there, can't bich about that!!

Hopefully by admitting I'm giving up... it'll start dumping

Had yet another awesome weekend. Actually got in some climbs here and there and today was a bunch of fun riding when I wasn't upside down hanging on for dear life. Definitely worth the drive, but we won't be out again until it snows some more.

I hear ya. Sleds are getting Stabil in the fuel, getting washed, greased, covered and stored this coming weekend. Drove over both passes yesterday and I could see standing water coming up through the base in the meadows. Then base is so damn hammered, even a 48" dump won't let me bring the sleds back out. Trailer has already been converted to the summer toy transport.
