Won't run!!!

Ok further testing:

We decided to swap injectors, we took the mag side and put it in the pto side and pto in the mag side. Same situation, the mag side ran the PTO side did not.

We looked at the throttle body boots, they look fine from what we can see.

Now what?

We did a compression test and both sides are identical 125ish

I am running out of ideas here, especially with it being wired back to stock.

Ok so we tore the intercooler out then took the throttle bodies out then the reeds. And here is what we found:

The pto side reed had 3 petals that aren't fully sealing, hardly enough to not allow the motor to run I believe. The Mag side had 2 not completely sealing.

The big find was the boots, torn on both sides, however the MAG side had the biggest tear, this explains the high idle problem. But still haven't solved the not running on the PTO side problem, again lots of spark and now we know injectors are working. So we may have to go with the clever suggestion of franksoutdoors we may have a tweaked piston on the PTO Side, but you would think with good compression this wouldn't be an issue.

Time to pull the exhaust off and see what we can see, maybe a sized ring??? Yahooo this is great fun:face-icon-small-sho

blown throttle body boot

We had two blown boots on 800 dragons. Both were revving high and would run rough at idle. But we caught it in time and did no damage to the pistons. I am guessing it is just too lean on the one side and not firing. But it doesn't take long to look inside. The reeds will make for a poor idle or hard starting if they are not sealing properly. While you are there put new reeds in it. The boost is hard on them. Good luck.

Just took the head off and the pistons and walls look like new, less a bit of oil build up. So I am thinking that these boots might be the problem. We will change it out and put the beast back together and hope for the best. Time to get some parts coming tomorrow.

piston inspection

Did you look inside the exhaust ports or in the variable valve exhaust ports to look at the skirts of the pistons or the rings? What fuel and boost were you running for the test run? I read in another post that you were running av gas 100ll.

Skirts and rings look good. Yes av gas same thing we ran in our turbo m8 last year. As far as a test run it really wasn't much of a test run more like a couple low speed passes about 500' each way with a max rpm of about 5000 for only a couple seconds.

I think the boot failure is from the weight of the intercooler and vibration of the motor I am going to make a proper support bracket for the back side of the intercooler.

Also going to install new reeds what are you guys thinking 800 reeds or???

Glad you found the problem! Go with the stock reeds. The intercooler wasn't the total reason the boots tore although it probably didn't help. I have no intercooler on mine. They just delaminate over time and the boost finds the weak spot and then their done. I would order two throttle body boot plates and have one in your toolbox for next time. If you didn't get the aluminum throttle body boot support plate you should contact Justin and see if he can get you one. Hopefully someone will have billet boots for the 700 soon.

Thanks everybody for your help!!! It's like I get to do two Turbo installs for the price of one :pound:

I do have the aluminum support plate from Justin, as I mentioned I didn't run much boost at all, I wonder if it's just because they are the orginal boots?

Another question how firm is everyone running there blow off valve.

Thanks again.

Update

Got everything back together and back to stock, pulled the cord and after a couple little adjustments on the cable adjuster she is running as good as ever.

THANKS GUYS FOR YOUR HELP!!! now I can wire in the attitude box and hook everything back up properly and get back to the finally assembly of this machine, and ride it too!!
