Wind in Colorado!

Permits are very limited. Those that have them went through a very long and expensive process. The application is very invasive. They want bank account info, they want insurance info. And those that have permits aren't going to let them go. Then the USFS has to do some sort of "IMPACT" study which takes up to several seasons to complete and generally doesn't come out in your favor.

It's BS but most certainly not worth risking your as$ for it. If his customers truly give a squat, then they would understand and be willing to cancel and wait till he can secure a legal way of doing it, instead of having him force his hand. I'm sure he can afford to sit out a season instead of risking his business, family and reputation.

And it seems that we have a CB alter who just "happened" to join last night at 11:30 or so. I'm sure that Chris would be thrilled to know that somebody is using his name. Chris is registered on the SW forums but it's not under his full name, just his last.

Isnt that like identity theft?:face-icon-small-sad He should get a bunch of different sleds (even some old ones) and try to blend in as much as possible. Man it needs to snow baaad.

Would you pay over $500 a day to ride some old beater sled. IF I was to ever pay that much to ride with a celebrity I wouldn't want some old iron. There is only one option here. GET LEGAL.

If TML will work with BBCA then great. But I think that to do that TML has to make Chris an employee of the lodge which means all monies go to Marc first and he pays Chris. Chris has employees, so I don't think that is an option or Chris pays a premium (most likely hefty) to Marc to work under his guiding permit. Either way, the USFS will have a pretty heavy hand in it.

Chime in Cannonman.

Tuff year for that biz for sure. Can he pull the whole just riding with my friends today card?:noidea:

That's what he told me, he can still do the lodging, but the riding is not charged. He will not jeopardize his business. His area around BV is huge. Tin Cup, Cottonwood and over to Spring Creek area. I stop into the store to get some stuff when needed and always a big smile and friendly service.:tea:

Let me get everyone on the same page...

What's up all? Thought I should probably jump in here and get everyone on the same page as to how it REALLY is instead of the "I heard" route.

First and foremost I am very happy, proud and excited to say that Burandt's Backcountry Adventure does have a Forest Service permit allowing me to guide on Forest service land. It's taken a ton of time, effort, money etc to pull this off but it's all good to go.

Second, yep I have ridden Wolf Creek a few times this year. Yep, someone thought it would be a good idea to tell the forest service that I was down there "Guiding illegally" However, what was conveniently left out on this story is that I like many of you snowmobilers out there was actually just riding with friends in Wolf Creek. Yep, believe it or not I do actually like to ride with friends from time to time. After several attempts to contact the Wolf Creek Forest service to clear things up I finally got a hold of someone and explained the situation. All good there too. It's ridiculous that someone actually thinks I would risk all of the hard work, money and time spent in obtaining my permit by taking clients to an area that I'm not permitted for.

Third, So PJ, I'm not sure what your deal is dude. The things you said in your posts kind of baffles me. I'm not going to go on a public forum and tell you how irate I was last night when I read your comments, I will let you know in person next time I see you. But let me just say this... Life is too short to be so bitter my friend. You act like you’re my best friend when you call me to ask for something or when you bring your son up for an autograph and then you write these crazy things that you have absolutely no clue about. Not cool man. It's way more fun to live life happy and not bitter. Just my take!

Fourth, Grand Mesa. Well, it must have been Elvis riding one of my snowmobiles I guess. I haven’t been to the Mesa in ages. Hopefully I get back there one of these days. Maybe from here on out I will just use all my fame and fortune and my helicopter to drop me into riding zones instead of showing up in the parking lot with my truck that says Burandt’s Backcountry Adventure all over it. J Kidding of course. Maybe that way people might quit assuming just because I’m in the parking lot that I’m “Illegally guiding”

By the way PJ, just read your last post…what are you talking about with old beater sleds? Last time I checked 2011 and 2012 Pro RMK’s weren’t exactly beater sleds. Dude, just stop. You truly are being silly.

So lastly, I would like to thank all my friends, fans and family for helping me get to this awesome place in my life. I am humbled everyday that I get to do what I do and couldn’t have done it without all the help along the way. Sorry this thread has taken such a bad turn. Hope this helps clear some things up and C’mon old man winter let’s see some snow!!

Chris

Good to know Chris. Thanks for chiming in.

Best of luck to you this year....I sure hope your snow dance is better than mine:face-icon-small-hap

Hey Zachcreek, you must have misunderstood me, I do charge for guiding, sled rental and lodging. Just thought you should know. Stop by the store anytime. We got a bunch more stuff in over the holidays as well. Hope to see you up on the hill!

No problem. It's so hard playing the he said she said game. Especially in my world. Thought it might be best to let everyone know the real scoop.

As far as snow goes I've actually been finding some really good stuff. I can't believe how massive the Cottonwood area is! I will never be able to ride all of it in my lifetime. Still getting stuck and still having an awesome time riding!

This lack of snow is really killing us. We're all going nuts!

Working with the Powder Hounds I can tell you that permits and the USFS is an act of congress! You have to play their game, their rules and you are lucky if you get what you want. I understand their concerns, but it is very hard to operate a business (or in our case, a non-profit club).

I'll be the first to admit that I'm jealous I don't have CB's gig. But I will also tell you that he is one of the few guys at his level that really cares about the well being of snowmobiling in our state. I think he has clarified his situation, but for anyone to report him with a group of guys outside of his "area" is silly. Personally, it would be a kick in the balls for me to report him after what he does for our club. Unless of coarse I saw him on a Doo!

Oh I know you charge for guiding etc Chris , just not out of your permit area. Cheers!

Yea wow.

As I was reading this I was thinking it is funny how the rumors fly faster around here than down at Tomi's hair salon..

Everything is on the up and up here in BV. I guess just about every where in Co is hurting for snow right now and I just found out that my Monarch cat day on Jan 13 was canceled :face-icon-small-fro:face-icon-small-fro.. There are still pockets of good snow if you know where to look but I am hoping for a storm here soon.

So if you guys have not checked out the newest retail store in Buena Vista be sure to hit it up when you are in town. Plenty of parking for big trailers. Slednecks, Kilm, 509, newest videos, and a bunch of other protective gear. 113 n railroad st. or one block from the stoplight. Also if ya stop in - while I know a bunch of you like the pizza - go over and get a burger at the Lariat bar and grill as it is the best in town.. The Lariat is also super snowmobile friendly place.

Thanks Chris for getting the info out there.

SO we were hanging out having lunch in this bowl.....when all of a sudden some dude comes flying by on some old beater sled....straight up thru the trees to the top makes a sharp turn and drops in....flies back by us in a wisp of powder.

I swear it was Chris Burandt riding The Mesa. Pulled out my camera just in time to grab this pic

Wasn't sure at first but as he blew by there was the distinctive aroma of a sizzling hotpocket?

That's great that you cleared that up.

I'm not bitter. I have nothing against you. I know what it's like to deal with the USFS. I don't want you to get in trouble, you have a family like everybody else. I didn't even know you were permitless on RE until one of YOUR friends in Kremmling told me. I tried several years ago to get a permit just to be able to moonlight a little, legally. What a nightmare that was. And then the USFS threatened to pursue me because they "heard" that I had been taking people out for cash. This was last year. In the previous years I had taken a couple small groups out but no last year, so I told them they needed to get their sh*t straight. Haven't taken anybody out last year or this year. In fact, I've only ridden twice this year and that was in WC. So again, I have no issues with you or your staff. That's my take.

And to clear things up, I have never "asked" you for any swag whatsoever. I called to see if you had a track that I could buy. You have donated to the Colorado Forum Ride (now a dead event) and we all are grateful for that. I don't know if that deal was ever fulfilled. The guy that won it never got back to me. As for acting like I'm your best friend, I don't know what to say. I'm courteous but I don't think we are friends. We have never BS'd, we don't hang out and don't hunt together. We do however have some mutual friends. One I know is pretty bummed that you don't make time to talk to him. He's in a pretty bad spot right now. Maybe you might wanna check in and say hey.

Fourth, Grand Mesa. Well, it must have been Elvis riding one of my snowmobiles I guess. I haven’t been to the Mesa in ages. Hopefully I get back there one of these days. I didn't refer to a 2011 or 2012 as a "beater". The post by BOOFIT mentioned that you use "older" sleds. That is what I was referring to.

So lastly, I would like to thank all my friends, fans and family for helping me get to this awesome place in my life. I am humbled everyday that I get to do what I do and couldn’t have done it without all the help along the way. Sorry this thread has taken such a bad turn. Chris

Original post of mine: That guy isn't gonna learn and it's sad. If he gets a summons and charges get filed, Polaris will drop him faster than Nike kicked Tiger and then where will he be? A beautiful wife and two beautiful kids and he's willing to risk it for a buck?? It sucks to see fame and money destroy the icons of the sport. That used to be a guy that would toss you a cold one if you walked into his shop on any given afternoon. Won't happen now. Sad, very sad.

That's two of the most epic Natl. Forests in Colorado that he's been run out of. RE took 4 seasons, WC took a month and GM will take even less.

Again, I'd like to reiterate that I have no issues with you. It's now very public knowledge that you had no permit on RE/Buff. That wasn't my doing either. Ktown is a dinky little burb, you think I want that on my head? Most certainly not. In regards to my original post, I assumed in part and that is my fault. I should know better but hey, nobody is perfect. But I also said that you had a beautiful new family and I'd hate to see them hurt. So, I don't see where I really said anything bad about you or the family. And lastly, I'll admit it right now. I was peeved that I got in trouble for "guiding" by the USFS and all I was trying to do was survive and raise my two young boys while I was laid off, but the USFS was allowing you to continue (at this time I had already been told by your friend that you were "skating under the radar" without a permit). So more or less, I was upset at the situation and not you personally. But on the same note, there are other individuals that have permits on RE/Buff and weren't to happy about it. I can't blame them either. They have to fork over thousands of dollars to operate up there, make a living and pay their employees. It's not your fault, but more the USFS's fault. It's a good operation and I have heard good things about it from a friend that has booked with BBCA twice. I don't want you to lose your deal with Polaris, 509, HMK and whoever else sponsors you. I wish you the best of luck and I'm sorry that you think that I can't stand you. That isn't true.

PJ is a mystery best left misunderstood.

I think we have a new snowmobiling game....

"I spotted Burandt riding....."

Best pic and story gets a free ride at BBA!

Hey, I'm trying to change the negative tone of some of my posts. I love riding as much as the next guy. So far in 2012 I have done pretty good about not being so "angry" I plan on keeping that way. Please give me more than 3 days to prove that.

And for the record, I haven't seen nor posted that I saw Burandt riding.

**And on that note, I'm done with this topic before things get out of hand and nasty. I don't want that nor does anyone else, if Chris wants to talk to me, he has my number.**

I guess I need new glasses...lol. First it seems I cannot recognize an employee from a twigger on the Mesa and then I can't seem to get this right. But, I did say I only thought I saw Chris. By that what I am saying is the guy that stopped with two others to help one of our group get unstuck was wearing the same black and white camo looking gear Chris does. This guy was his same height and build and was later seen instructing the two other guys on late model Polaris. When he helped us and talked to us he never took his goggles off which I thought strange. Maybe I need to not put two and two together and just ask from now on?

By the way, when I said this I meant no harm. I thought it kind of cool that if it was Chris that he stopped to help one of the younger riders in our group who had got stuck and we had not yet got back to him. I wish Chris all the best in the world and in no way meant this as negative nor did I think this would degenerate into a "he is illegal" thingy complete with the forum poodles acid response.

On another note, Chris somebody is wearing the same gear as you instructing riders. You may hear this kind of thing again. (not from me)

I have no dog in this hunt, but these comments don't seem to show much affection:face-icon-small-con. I don't know PJ, but there is somewhat of a tone of contempt everytime the guiding issue with CB is brought up. It seems most posts on SW regarding CB are very positive and paint a picture of a very down to earth "guy" who has a passion for snowmobiling and is very approachable. No bashing here, just a little ironic most negative posts are regarding the guiding thing.:face-icon-small-dis

Oh well, if it would snow we would not have time for this he said she said dribble.:face-icon-small-ton:face-icon-small-hap
