Will the 2014 Polaris be as disappointing as the new Cat, Yammi and Doo?

realistic hopes for 2014:

more unique color options, or wrap options like ski-doo offers through SCS wraps
powdercoated tunnels/rails
track option on snowcheck
$200 or less price increase
make a 141" Pro RMK out of the 141" switchback chassis
option for better shock package

The last two are the most unrealistic, obviously. The rest, not too much to ask for in an already good sled, in which they have probably sorted all the bugs out of and won't advertise that they had the bugs in the first place.

honestly if you were expecting something completly new this year from any of them your kind of over hoping....

i thought cat did some good changes actually, completely moved the skid, new 600 DI motor, lost 18 pounds, new seat, new running boards. reworked the clutches.went to aluminum reinforcement bars, lightweight jackshaft, lightweight gears, they lost weight and refined the chassis there locked into for a while?? cant expect the world

skidoo was a def let down, nothing really new on the mountain segment.

yamahas big year i think will be next year. and with this new partnership will get cat and yami both an advantage in r and d/product development in the next few years lets just hope they both learn from eachothers positives and dont use eachothers negatives.

poo, has a chance to make minor changes for reliability and prove they belong on top of the podium on the mountain. i just hope they dont go all out and make too many changes that they dont QC properly or execute properly and they should have a Great year! im waiting to see what there release is before i buy this 13 assault i been looking at just in case there is something i cant live without on the new release hahaha :)

Been thinking about snow checking for three years now, Hard to give up my 700 that has not missed a beat since day one. Would like to be on the pro chassis but I have questioned the 800 motor and don't think the 600 will pack my fat a$$. 700 turbo in the pro chassis would be sweet for me! Will see on March 4th

I have a stock '08 700 and a stock 2012 Pro RMK 600. I guarantee you that if you think your 7 can pack you the 6 certainly can!

Polaris HAS to ramp up their reliability. Fix the QD belt/drive shaft, reinforce the tunnel better(we beef up our's because we know what WILL happen not MIGHT happen to them over time)and find a better foundry/supplier for their castings. They are not holding up. Three of our sleds have had issues with cracked castings(MY2011 & MY2012). The glue/joint issues people have been having on the 13's. The power plant goes without saying. I know one thing for sure, if Polaris removes even more weight for MY2014 without increasing the unit price, that tells me one thing. Losing weight costs money. PERIOD! These things are so damn fun to ride we just fix the f*cking things and keep riding. I can't take this BS cycle any longer. Polaris NEEDS to address these issues or they will put themselves into a compromising position with some of the shifting going on in this industry. I hope for all Poo rider's/owner's sake, Polaris was listening and turns out a decent product at a fair price(I don't care if it's more if we get what we pay for) that we can live with and a product that will outlast the warranty by a long way!

2014.....or Not, It's up to you Poo

I am wishing for a new DI motor, or a 5 or 6 PSI pump gas turbo to atleast compensate for elevation losses. A 2014 with 150P @ 10K feet and a 3" track would kick A$$. I would pay tomorrow, and not care about a warranty.

Unfortunately, This is the year of the yawn. No teasers have come through from Polaris, not a squeak of a hint of the future.
Nothing will happen and I will take my cash and turbo my 11 Assault, and have a grin from December to March of next year...... If I have enough fun, I wont be buying a 2015 either. (It's important to have a back up plan)

AH? new 600 DI motor?:noidea: ????? huh?
DID we miss somthing?

2014 Arctic Cat C-TEC2 Engine

The new two-stroke, direct-injected engine will be available in one 2014 Arctic Cat snowmobile: the ZR 6000 El Tigre. In addition to the new engine, the snowmobile has a new seat and gauge — as do most other 2014 Arctic Cat snowmobiles.

Other than its dimensions and displacement, the new 6000 Series 600cc C-TEC2 engine shares nothing with the Suzuki 600 that powered Arctic Cat F6 models through 2010, or the engine found in the Arctic Cat 600 Sno Pro race sled. The new crankcase, crankshaft, cylinders, pistons, head and reed valves were all designed by Arctic Cat. The engine will be built at the company’s St. Cloud, Minnesota, engine facility where only low-revving, four-stroke ATV and UTV engines had previously been assembled.

The new 600cc Arctic Cat C-TEC2 engine weighs 10 pounds less than the Suzuki it replaces, said Arctic Cat engineer Don Eide. There is one fuel injector per cylinder, but fuel is injected in two stages. When under low engine loads, the system shoots fuel directly into the combustion chamber between the piston dome and cylinder head, but when the load increases fuel begins to spray sooner through a slot in the side of the piston. Injectors are positioned in the cylinder wall.

Another high-tech feature of the C-TEC2 engine is its electronic oil pump. Input from the engine management system determines how much oil the engine needs, based on conditions like throttle position, RPM and altitude. Oil for the crankshaft is injected into the air intake flanges. For the top end, it’s mixed with fuel in the fuel rail.

The 600cc Arctic Cat C-TEC2 engine is a laydown design with the air intake and exhaust positioned on the forward-facing side of the engine. The Exhaust Pipe Temperature Sensor (EPTS) returns, sending valuable information to the engine management system. Servomotor-controlled Arctic Power Valves dictate exhaust port openings.

2014 Arctic Cat 600 C-TEC2 Specifications
Bore/stroke: 73.8mm x 70mm
Displacement: 598.9cc
Peak RPM: 8150-8200
Cylinders: 3-port exhaust with NiCaSil lining
Claimed output: 123 hp

My guess on 14 pros
Weight drop to 410 lbs
Redesigned driveshaft
5-10 more h.p.
Belt drive protection, and idler(hopefully)
If they address these minor things, I might be riding a 14 next year. If not, ill have to wait till 16 cause everything will be new in 15 I have a feeling, and I'm not ever buying a first year model again!!

you will love the assault.....

Heard from reliable source at Polaris Improvements on the 13 for 2014, New chassis in 2015, Their factory turbo won't meet EPA emission testing as of yet... Guess we will find out for sure on the 5th.

If they have enough EPA credits, can't they do something like this now? Or are there different rules now that we are in the 2014 model year?

My crystal ball says an 600/800 indy in a 121 and 136, a 146 assault, and for my favorite high maint girlfriend... the pro rmk...gets new alum machined quickdrive pulleys and driveshaft....oh, and how about some kickass paint or :face-icon-small-disgraphics...

Ok...guess I should have been more specific ....RAW Chassis
06 is the first yr of the dragon.

I'd be happy with the following:

1. Improve QD system and drive shaft.
2. Powder coat the tunnel (and rails - but I can do that myself too).
3. 3/4 year warranty on snowcheck (cat is 2/ski doo is 4).

Otherwise, I'm not expecting much but will be replacing the '12 with a '14 regardless.

What good is a .75 year warranty? :face-icon-small-hap

The new chassis talk is hilarious. They just came out with the Pro-RMK chassis in '11. It flat out works which means it won't be replaced anytime soon. They are expanding the chassis with the Indy line-up. Its no wonder some guys get disappointed, they set their expectations unrealistically high.

Cat has offered the most changes for this year. If any OEM should be coming out with a new chassis its Doo. The XP will be going into its 7th year. By offering new body work on the XP (which isn't cheap) tells you the XP is ging to be around for a while.

I see refinements for the Pro-RMK and an Indy 800 with different track length variants of the Indy series. They aren't hurting for marketshare in the mountain sled market but will gain market share in the trail sled market by expanding the Indy line-up. Sleds are too expensive for most people and if Polaris follows their Indy 600 formula of great performance at a reasonable cost, they WILL sell more sleds. Just like they did with the original Indy in the 80's.

2014

I agree, no new Chassis. Don't want one, dont need one. I would however, think that Polaris would be in a position to bump power. They have had alot of time to refine, tune and address the motor issues of the past, and if they matched the power of the green and yellow things, they would probably increase their market share of the west higher than the current 42%.
What is killing me, is waiting for the release a week after the other Mfr's........

Dealer told me today they are being farily tight-lipped.

I guess we'll find out what they are going to do when Monday comes around.

They have been behind Doo and Cat in the engine department for years, you would think after all these years of RD in the back ground they would be coming out with a more reliable engine with equal power of the competition. If they cant build a reliable 160 hp 800, then put a turbo on a 600 or 700 and get with the program. I had to replace pistons at 850 miles on my 2011, this was before the turbo was installed.

Just my 2 cents worth.:face-icon-small-fro
