Will I be happy with a '14 HCR?

After two years on a Pro, I'm looking to make a jump back to Cat. I know there's quite a few posts on here but not too many on the HCR. I loved the handling of the Pro in the trees but the motor is way under powered and the shocks blow. Previous to my Pro, I owned a '09 M1k and loved the sled for drops and climbs but no so hot in the trees. I'm eyeing up a '14 HCR and would plan on throwing on the BDX front end with 38" arms and a can. I have yet to throw a leg over the PC chassis. What's your guys thoughts on this set up? I typically ride all terrain but spend most time in the trees.

What's your reason for wanting a hcr over a regular sno pro or limited sled? With the 38" front end swap the hcr will be the same as a sno pro for handling. I think you would like it !

if your riding CO pow get the sno pro, 80 duro track and 38-39 front end already. so no more money to spend to get it to be a M8. put that into a slp pipe set and oil delete and now your down 30 lb and at 170 hp

I found a screaming deal on an HCR, enough so where I could buy the Bdx kit and still be under the price of a SP. I like the fact that the Evols are on the HCR as well.

Yea I'm pretty sure you will have to have the shocks revolved or shortened to work

How much difference would I expect with the 85 duro? I like the idea of the SLP and oil delete set up as well.

Ok well if you narrow up an hcr I don't see why you wouldn't like it! You will love having a Suzuki motor again and the hcr's always look sweet!

I love the motor, my only concern is handling in the trees vs. the Pro. Every other aspect is a no brainer to me.

We have everything in my group, and there isn't a pro that out does the cats. If you can ride you will do well on anything

you wont like the stiffer track in powder

Not too much difference but the 85 duro does trench more in light CO pow. I hated my 12 PC so I bought a 12 pro rmk. Sold it with 1100 mi since it blew 2 motors and got back on a 14 limited 153 with bdx front end, gripper skis, and narrowed boards/panels. Most fun, power to the ground, and technical riding sled I've ever thrown a leg over. Liked it so much I bought a 15 PC instead of waiting for the 16 Poo.

Great feedback, thanks. Kaleb recently told me your story and said you seemed happier on the PC vs the Pro. What's all involved in narrowing the boards/panels?

I did skinz rasmussen boards on my 14. The toe hooks on them are nice but a tad low so you can't get your foot all the way forward if you have big feet/boots. The traction screws also work themselves loose over time. Gonna do the BDX boards on my 15 for that reason. They both narrow about the same. The panels you just have to drill out a bunch of rivets about 2/3 the way from the board area up the belly panel. Then push in, drill holes and pop in rivets again. Some trimming in a couple misc areas with a utility knife brought the panels in further too. Just don't want to suck in the panels where the primary clutch is or the panel with push into the clutch cover when laying the sled down on its side in heavy pow.

I had the same issue with the air frames on my Pro. The tubing seems too thin and I lost a few traction screws last season. The bdx boards look solid and I'm liking the idea of narrowing the panels. It sounds like you've dialed your sled in well, how's your clutch set up for out here?

the softer the snow the more the hcr trenches, i have run each up the same hill back to back and the 80 kills the 85 in the pow. now on hard pack the hcr does the other side of the coin and walks from the sp. the slp pipe set and pcv works well as a plug and play a bit high on $$$ but a full plug and play. ditch slp's clutch set up and put in the speedwerx 125-340 and run the stock weights to hit 8200 on a full climb. 68 g for 5-8k 66 to 10k and my guess will be 64-62 for over 10k as i rarely ride over 10k. this and vents will help with belt heat.
I like cotwo's idea of narrowing up the panel and board as this is one place i still miss the M.
i plan to relocate my tether to just inside the base of the post as the factory leaves little wire to place it and on the top and to the S side panel i have had snow kick it of on a hard L side hill.

Just beware that most HCR's that are a "screaming deal" are ex-race sleds, beat to **** and have no factory warranty. I've had two friends buy such sleds thinking they were getting a good deal, but ended up getting screwed. Have a dealer check the vin # first and find out.

I run stock 36 helix and spring in secondary. I run a speedwerx 120-310 spring in the primary which engages at 4200rpm. I found the 125-340 to have too high of engagement at around 4400-4500 rpm up here. I run 63g weights with the 083 belt, 60g weights with 084

CO 2.0 are you running a full pipe set?
