just been hearing a rumor the sno barons are having a hard time getting a permit this year???? environmental impact study going on???? or is this just a rumor? Thanks.

Environmental impact???? What, too much alcohol consumed leading to an adverse amount of fertilizer being added to the ground???

Maybe they should follow up with and Economic impact and see how that shakes up for little ol' Blaine, MN. (or is it Lino Lakes?)

Freeeekkkkinnnnn' greenies!!!!!!!!!

I couldn't agree more, heard it was costing around $40,000.00 to do the study. Of course this could just be rumors.

Don't know about that but they already have sent out the vendor stuff for this year if you want to have a booth. I would say all is on track for this year. Maybe it's at their new site they want to use that the EIS is going on?

It's just not greenies it's everything you do outside now needs one it seems. I think it's just way for municipalites to line their coffers with money.

elect Obama.. I'm sure he will "change" everything for the better.. less government and I am sure cheaper gas

less government and I am sure cheaper gas

Less government and Obama don't go in the same sentence together. I doubt the part about cheap gas too. He will try to keep us from drilling ANWR and the rest of the ocean(besides the west side of the gulf coast).

Sarcasm didn’t seem to make through the written process this time …….

That study is for the new location...Sno-Barons are getting put through the wringer to open new location...BJ

So that'll mean higher prices all around to get in??? They sure can't eat that much of a hit, but I'm afraid if they couple higher admission/vendor prices with the high price of gas/fuel their attendance will see a big hit.

Lets just say if they increased the ticket price by $5.00 a head per day. Would that keep you from going? Does anyone really think about the price to get though the gates in advance?

It's not a steep fee and to be honest I bet it's the cheapest part of the weekend for most people. I mean you have food, beverage, parts, clothing, gear or whatever to buy, the ticket price is truly a drop in the bucket when it's all said an done.

Fuel prices may hurt some of the vendors and fans that are coming from far, far away places but I bet people will simply be piling up in the trucks to go in a group instead of taking 2 vehicles or whatever like people have done in the past. We can't stop living because of fuel prices, everyone still needs to have a bit of fun once in a while and what else is there that time of year to have fun at?

Guess we wont know until it happens. But I'm sure the price of everything there will be affected by it; food, beer, probably some vendor items, etc.., if their prices go up they need to get that back somehow, plus the higher price just to get there is enough of a hit in itself.

Do I think $5 at the gate will make much of a difference on attendance???? That's why I said that when you couple that with the higher price of fuel there might be some people, that travel, decide against it or possibly leave the family at home and go with some buddies. If the do raise the prices they need to explain why and let everyone know it was because of this stupid "Environmental Impact Study". I still say they should counter and provide an Economic Impact Study on the little town, you would think the city would be willing to pay for the study to be done just so they can be sure and keep it. But I suppose the other side of that is it is rural so the city probably doesn't benefit as much as the retailers, other than the sales tax.

well i hear about this every year and i am always working, this year i am not working(contractor)much and gas prices and ticket prices aren't keeping me and mine away.the economy has given me the free time to enjoy life and stop and smell the exhaust...............so here is to good times in bad times

forget the impact on town....how about all those rednecks who charge 5 bucks to park in their lawn? That's who we need to be concerned for if attendance drops.

$40,000 should'nt change the fee. Unless I'm missing something they make a pretty good profit on it every year. Unless someone is padding their pockets there should be plenty to cover this one time cost. As stupid and bogus as the cost is, you can't get away from it.

OK, I've read most of the posts here, and one item in the defense of the Snobarons who host Haydays, is that they are pretty generous with donations to snowmobile clubs, and grooming operations in the state of MN where some organizations may be struggling financially.

In my area, most clubs in our trail association are pretty well funded by pull-tabs at taverns ("Charitable Gambling") so I can't speak from first hand experience about the Snobarons donations, but have heard about their generosity for many years. $0.02 :face-icon-small-win

You bet!!! They really do support the sport and probably more than a lot of people know about. That's what snowmobilers do!!! Some people are just trying to make it harder for us to support it to the extent we would like to.

I think its great what they do for the sport. have been to the last 8 years...

I will say though the last couple of years the rednecks that bring F'N bald tires, washers, a 1972 huffy bike, etc... have really killed the swap sections..

Dont know if i'm going this year because of all the JUNK!!

I have to agree with you. Over the past few years it seems to be a growing concern on what people are bringing into the swap. Like youve said ive seen old bikes bald tires wood clocks/selves along with a bunch of other junk. there any way snobarons could put a restriction on what people bring in?

Snow Wizzard you got it right.

A lot of folks I'm sure don't know this but the SnoBarrons aren't really a big working club in the sense of the typical MN snowmobile club. Meaning a lot of miles of trails, lots of grooming equipment etc. They are a club that is for sure but they are almost like a group of people that has this huge event and in turn donate a lot of the proceeds to smaller underfunded clubs for things like groomers, bridges, easements etc. Usually the MNUSA paper will highlight what clubs were the receipents. It's turly a unique situation that is for sure.
