Wife buying bigger sled - good choice?

Okay time to sound like a salesman------ The early IQ's 05-06,700&900 were great sleds, always get you home and polaris stood behind the recalls, still do. Also in 2006 the start of a great begining for polaris in my eyes was the 600 rmk 144". these sleds took one hand on the rope and another on the throttle start, but were awesome sleds in every other way. Then came the RAW chassis for 07 in a 600rmk 144"or 155" track and also the 700dragon 155",these were really awesome sleds. The carb models[600] still need two hands to start but not quite as often. The 700 dragon is efi ,and as noted 140 hp. which got the 800 summit boys a second look special when a girl passed them. Then for 2008 polaris introduced the same previous line up and include a efi 600 rmk 155" model [very easy to start ] and also the 800rmk in 155" or 163". Also for 2008 the 700 was 155" or 163". To answer your ? the earlier 600 is a good buy, but for more power and efi get a700.:)

I'm selling my 600 Edge 144 for a 700 RMK (I guess RAW instead of the IQ after all the advice here). So does the RAW chassis come in a 700 RMK? I don't really want a track longer than 155.

Stuff I think I want:
2007 or 2008 700
Track length 144 to 155
RMK (or Dragon if shocks aren't the pain I was told they were)
RAW chassis

EFI or carb??? It sounds like EFI is easier to start, but harder to fix on the trail?? I can start my 600 Edge by myself cold (carb) most times.

It's amazing how you guys can memorize all the stats on all the different sleds when my head is swimming!

EFI vs Carb?????
I myself would go with an EFI. I have an 04 600 silver/yellow carb, but I also have the 2008 600RMK 155" EFI. I'm 5'0 and weight about 116 and I can pull the sled to it's side when I need to. The only reason we kept the 2004 is in case my son's '02 800RMK blows another crank.
The group I ride with are serious boondockers and hill climbers. My husband has the '08 800 Dragon with a 163 and still loves to jump on mine to make sure it'll go where his does.

If you find a good deal on a dragon don't let the WE shocks scare you away. They aren't that bad especially for lighter riders. it's us fat guys that have problems with them most often. Personally I wouldn't be afraid of EFI or Carbs, just that the EFI is a little nicer that's all. Good Luck and have FUN!!!

I have an 08 800 Dragon and love it. I think the EFI works well for all around conditions and have had no problems with it from day 1. The Walker evans shocks are also not as bad as I hear about. I weigh 210...probably 225 to 230 with all gear and backpack and put 1200 miles on last winter..well from January on when I finally recieved the sled....and have had no issues with the Walker Evans. I think my front ones are low on pressure now and will recharge them here soon for this winter and they should be good to go for another season. I think you would do well on any RAW chassis and be happy. I am going to move my wife up probably this next year to a RAW chassis sled from her 03 800 vertical edge..

The 07 dragon was a 700 in the raw chassis. With the fancy shocks.
The 08 700 comes in 2 flavours. The dragon with the fancy shocks and the RMK with standard shocks. I have the 08 700 rmk with standard shocks and off trail the wife and I can't tell the difference between the shocks. I would save the 700 or so dollars and get the standard RMK (just my opinion so take it for what it's worth).

If you go with the 700 class, you don't have a choice. it's efi. I personally REALLY like the EFI. 1 maybe 2 pulls and your gone. No rejetting, no fiddling with anything when you change elevation or the temps go up or down. As for repairing it on the trail, in 1500 miles I haven't had a single problem so can't attest to how hard it is to repair.

Also, it's easy to remember all the numbers and stuff (well most of the numbers anyway) since we are constantly on the lookout for new and improved sleds and stuff. Gotta be able to compare sleds and motors.

Get the 600 in the RAW and slap a Carl's 660 on that sucker. You'll be fighting your wife over who gets to ride it :D

(Though I wish I had EFI some days...)

08 700 rmk

Blue Fluff,
I have an 07 600 RMK 155 carb that I snow-checked, I upgraded to WE shocks, put an SLP pipe, V-force reeds and SLP air box. She is ripped, but I really don't like the WE shocks. This last winter I bought a 08 700 RMK EFI and left it stock! This sled is AWESOME. I can go anywhere that I want and yes I can start it. I am 5'8" and 145lbs. You will love this sled if you get one.:face-icon-small-coo

Thanks guys and gals.
Sounds like maybe EFI is better.
Sounds like anything '07 and newer is raw chassis.
Jury is still out on the WE shocks, some like 'em, some don't.

Two more questions.

I'm hearing different opinions on the old 600s versus the new 600s. I called a dealer today and he said I should get another 600 because my '04 600 Edge has less HP and is heavier than the newer IQ sleds, but on looking up specs, it looks like the HP diff is minimal and the weight is very similar, esp if I get the 155 instead of the 144 (which I have now).

He was telling me about the Shift and how it's exactly the same as RMK but it's plain black and is carbed (except for 09s, which are EFI) and it doesn't come in the 700. So is he just trying to sell me the 600 because he knows the 800 is too big for me?

What are V force reeds??

Blue,

The 07' 600 piped canned and clutched is a fantastic sled. The newer 08' and 09' shift he is refering to, is the same sled as the 07' 600!! Just no decal's!! The 09' 600 is efi but I believe the shift is still carbed. Set up right this sled ripssss!!! Now the 08' 700 is a awesome sled, and you would looooove it, but the 600 set up right can keep up just fine. I'd move to a 155" track, you probably would'nt even notice the difference untill you needed it!!

Here's a couple pics of Sherri's sled with the pink deva flame kit!!

V-force reeds. They go inbetween the carbs and the block. They open and close very similar to the valves on your car/truck engine.

Better reeds, better fuel atomization (sp?).
Don't know if they make that much difference on the newer sleds, but I haven't seen any data so don't know.

Heres a dumb question.
How much are you looking to spend on a sled?
That will pretty much determine which sled to get. 600 or 700
my wife came off the 01 700 rmk 144 with 120hp and jumped on the 07 700 dragon 155 with 140hp and loves that sled.

Woohoo! Have Sherri check out the Ladies Ride forum. http://www.ladiesride.com/
There's quite the discussion about pink. Tom, from 509 Films in Spokane, is coming out with a line of ladies clothes (hats, hoodies, etc.) and was asking our opinion and a lot of the gals like the pink camo.

I don't really want to sell my 600 to get another 600, so I'll just have to wait till I get a good price on a 700 or until I save up the $. We sold the Cougar last week and are selling my 600 tomorrow and I have a little cash, but I'll have to come up with a little more for a 700. There's a swap meet tomorrow and the guy said he's getting in a couple of 700s, so I'll call him Monday and see what they are.

Should be able to pick up a dealer demo or used 08 700 for the 6500-7000 range. I have found a couple hold overs with zero miles for 8200.

I would imagine the 07 dragon used is going for the 5500-6000 range.

The newer model of the RAW 600 as compared to a 04 600 will be faster , more agile, better acceleration , more fun dactor , and ride lots lots smoother.

So if you do get a "newer " 600 it will not be anything like the older 600.

If you can build engines the 600 can be modified to be as good if not better than a stock 800 sled ..

My wife said it would look better with a pink bumper on it, she also said that she needs to loose the pink skulls because those are on her sled :p

Unfortunately, the Poo dealers within a 100 mile radius have nothing but 600s left. They've even got the snowchecked ones sold that people have backed out on. The 600s were an 08 600 Shift carbed 155 with 600 miles for $6500. An 08 600 RMK EFI 155 with 400 miles on it for $7700. There are a couple of 08 800 RMKs that were the dealer's own sleds, but $10,000. They have a lot of cool mods.

But if what you guys are saying is true that the 08 600 will have more power than my 04 600 (which my husband drove off with 20 minutes ago to sell to a guy :() maybe I should consider those since I now no longer have a ride for the snow! I'd just like a sled I could keep until the skis fall off and be happy with. Some of the bowls, slopes and boondocking I do, I want more power, but I ain't doing "The Pencil" or going to Revy anytime soon either.

I did find an 08 RMK 600 155 for 6995 in Sandpoint (five hour drive away). So that would have the raw chassis. He also had an 07 700 Dragon for $6000, but it had 1500 miles on it. But it had the SLP can, pipes and vents and a $400 bumper and clutch upgrade.

There are sposed to be 2 08 700 Dragons coming into a swap meet this weekend, so I'll check those out too.

OK, TMI. Now that my old sled is gone I GOTTA find something. Snow's acomin'.

Blue,

I'm headed to the show right now. My PH# 208-818-8566 if you want me to look at those sleds for you. I can even pick one up if you need it. Could probably transport it part way for you also. Call me!!

Thanx
