Wow, this is odd. Replying to this thread, the entire area to respond is on the right side of the screen, a big nothing to the left. Never seen that before.

We "Think" we have found a real solution to the problem, and have written up a detailed explanation and fired it off to the Powers That be at Harris Publishing.
The entire staff is GONE to the SnowShow in Boise Idaho for the next few days though.

first problem in quite a while. approx 0445 gateway 504 timeout on this thread http://www.snowest.com/forum/showthread.php?t=358076&goto=newpost using chrome. after the timeout popped up, i closed the window and clicked on the link in my email again. that time it popped right up

Last night we made some progress on this problem.
We finally identified a REAL cause of the slowdowns.
its coming from the interaction of the Proxy Server and the Header Files that vBulletin is passing back and forth to the users.
The header files are on occasion hitting upwards of 1MB in size.
Proxy Servers do NOT like large header files.
This might explain why the errors have been so frustratingly hit and miss.
This would explain why one thread works great and the next one hits the wall.
So, we made some changes to how the server deals with those large header files in hopes of reducing the number of them that get stopped.
Lets see what happens today.

LOOKING FOR APPLE MAC USERS who are surfing SnoWest using SAFARI.
I had a really interesting comment from a MAC user over the weekend about NOT seeing the GateWay error and would like to check with other MAC users to see if it is consistent or not.
When NAVIGATING by hand into a thead through the main forum into a sub-forum into a listed thread, there are no gateway errors.
But when LINKING directly into a thread, the errors appear.

From memory that is accurate, even though it sometimes it took up to five minutes to drag the thread out of the server. Not so much lately, but before your little tweaks.
