why you shouldn't use a sled deck on a toyota

I like the toyota in the river bed thing not sure how anyone could drive staight with the back tires off the ground most of the time

Half tons work great with decks as long as you have air bags or springs on them.

Brakes seem the only thing that it lacks a little but it's still better than say a little steel 2 place trailer with 2 sleds on it for slowing down but other than that it feels like a 3/4 ton even in 35mpg corners but the air bags are needed.

I would not go any smaller than a half ton but the newer 1/2 tons are not like the 1/2tons we had 10 years ago.

you shouldnt drive a toyota.... keep your money in the USA rather than being sent to china or japan... drive an american built car like Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, GMC... just my 2 cents

I would not put 1500 lbs of waight above the the bed rails on any half ton truck.

1500lbs is way to low, and why people think it might be ok on a half ton. My 1 ton Cummins with 2 sleds on the deck weighted in at a hair over 10,000lbs with only me in the cab, sleds were not full of gas and the truck was not full of diesel. Add another one in the cab and fill up everything and my 1 ton is overloaded or very close with just a deck, and people do this on a half ton! The only thing that they have lighter is the deck, mine is quite heavy but many only an extra 100lbs. Air bags don't give you the ability to haul anymore, if it can't be done without them safetly it can't be done with them safely.

Oh boy, here we go.....

If the American auto makers could make a competitive model to my '04 Tundra, I would have bought one. My truck is made in the USA, unlike Ford's idea of "Assembled in Mexico", or Brazil, or you name it....even Canada.

However, nothing I have driven or researched can compare to my Tundra, proudly built in the USA.

as long as you like getting ripped off, ya keep your money here.. i own a one ton dodge and my wife drives a new tundra, the dodge is defintly safer to tow with in the winter as the one ton diesel has the extra weight... but give me a 6-7000lb boat and i will drive the toyota all day long, almost as much tow power as my modified cummins and wow does it ride nice. oh and our family also owns 3 new gms and a fleet of dodges, even a honda pickup...

if toyota puts out a one ton, watch out! till then lets hope the big three can get there act together!! would hate to not have the choice to drive a full size truck.

good point.. im pretty sure that all trucks are manufactured in north america

one difference is that when a company like honda or toyota lays off people they don't keep paying the bums forever because of old dinosaur union job safety crap.. In the real world when you are layed off you look for a new job... Honda opened a huge new factory for the same amount of money as GM pays layed off people!

Tundras are built in the US. And I don't believe Toyota is taking any bailout money....from YOU. Lol, so yes, you certainly are keeping your money in the US. Twice.

Yota

They better be selling like hot cakes with the toyotathon of all toyotathons going on to save their a$$es they were having problems long before chevy dodge or ford the toyota plants in the US shut dow last december and they are not elligable for the bail out because they are a foreign owned buisiness.

So much for the built tough Toyota commercials huh?:D I'll stick with my 3/4ton Cummins.:beer;

SNOW JW, the air bags may allow a 1/2 ton to carry a deck and two sleds in theory. However, I would lay money down that anyone that does that is exceeding the legal GVW for that truck. Air bags, add-a-leafs, etc. do not change the GVW. Brakes, steering components, and tires are all being overloaded. IMHO, your just better off to buy the right truck for the job right from the start.
