Why wear body armor?

I have hit one of those forest service gates before, 2 buddies went right over, I stopped dead. I always were my tekvest now!

Yeah been there too,
Nice to hear it was only the ego that got bruised. For what it's worth I would add more protection than the klim stuff, especially in the knees. Unless you are riding trails that is;)

When I did my Nadia Comaneci over the bars, and got home, I found some surprising results...

Whatever I hit, did in each knee of my Togwotee bibs identically. a 3/4" tear...
Through the Cordura, the nylon, the goretex, the insulation, the nylon, the kneepad the nylon, and then through my long underwear....
And my knees did not have a mark on them...hurt like hell, and I had to ride out 16 of the most whooop-infested kilometres to the truck.

Damn I miss Callaghan!

Tek Vest also. I was with Bad Daddy when he had his maiden voyage over his bars. In fact it was shortly after he took my avatar photo his Superman voyage over the bars began. By the time I got to him he could only see blue and green stars. I've worn a Tek Vest ever since my wife broke 6 ribs in an ATV accident.

Ollie yikes! Glad to hear it sounds like you and your buggy came out of this as good as could be. PHEW

Good to hear you made it out with minimal damage. Thats why i scooped up a T Vest this year myself, kinda hard to keep financing the Winter Safaris with broken ribs. I lost my virginity last year on some RR tracks. Bruised ego, bruised thigh, bruised knee, and a lower A arm, tends to make you think a little more seriously.

i always wear my tekvest no matter what kind of riding i am doing. even if i am out with the family, i just feel naked without it on.

yep, usually wear it loading/unloading too. 2nd thing on and off (first being beacon) at the truck.

Glad your OK Ollie

Another vote for Tekvest/body armor:D.

I also don't take it,or my helmet off till after the sleds are loaded on the trailer.Ever hook a carbide on the trailer and go over the top:eek:not fun?

Glad your ok Ollie, glad you put that up as for an example of the unexpected for all of us.

I had this 661 body armor left over from dirt bike riding and as a newb sledder I have put it on for every ride, didn't seem a significant upgrade by picking up a tech vest over this set up.

Expect the unexpected!

Ollie, Maybe you should show that to the F.S. maybe they can change/mark the location of their barriers. Seems like them buggers like to mess with motorized users. Looks like a liability issue for the F.S. putting something like that up. Just a thought. Glad your O.K.,

To be honest, if I had been paying attention I would have seen it. Anti-hero had just gone over and knew it was there. I was busy watching him and not where I was going. I guess I should have been paying attention and not contemplating doing a high speed turn and roosting him good as I went by.

I don't know how many times I have seen guys pull 20k sleds off the trailer, no body armor, no leg or arm protection, no nothing. But they got a kickin sled.

How low does that cover? I've taken handlebars to the gut, doesn't look like that comes quite as far down as my tekvest does.

Anyone have a links to good pair of knee pads or guards? i am tired of hitting mine on my dragon.
I'm sportin the this year... wwaaaaaayyyyyy better than the cheap $20/pair ones I used last year. I should have gotten these after I broke my first cheap one. They stay where you put them, don't wiggle around much during the day, offer a lot more protection and comfort than the cheapos. Less $ than all-out knee braces too. No gap between my klim boots, and they don't interfere with each other either.
