why cant it be general snowmachining?

for my 907 boys, we call it snowmachining and people from the lower forty8 look at us like were crazy! who dictates what its called? and why in the hellzbellz do we call it something different up here? just a topic for discussion

or bashing:D i dont really care

well i figured there was some long ago story type deal that would explain it... iv grown up calling it snowmachining... soo have my friends and their parents.. minus the ones that came up from utah and stuff lol. just crazy

Do you say "I'm going to stop by the snowmobile dealer", or the snowmachine dealer?

I agree. If you go to the lower 48 and say snowmachine they all think snowblower or some kind of snow making device. If you say snowmobile up here people just look at you weird.

why do americans call a cigatrette a cigarette and the english or whoever call it a fag? why do we park on driveways and drive on parkways? why do kamikaze pilots wear helmets? Why do they sterilize needles for lethal injections? How exactly does the posi-trac rear end on a plymouth work?

:D

around here in Grand Forks everyone calls it snowcatting. i think it is becuase we are so close to thief river falls but still, i have friends that ride polaris and call it their snowcat.

Alot of people in the lower 48, that are over 65 call it snowmachine. I think it all derives from the fact that in the early years there were all sorts of vehicles made to transport you over the snow. I have not seen a snow-machine mag. or dealer anywhere. I just attribute it to the cold, lack of sunlight, and over use of mind altering liquids!

Some interesting facts about snowmobile registrations by state, accorning to ISMA (Int'l Snowmobile Mfg'rs As'n)
Do "whatchacallit" go to the places with the most sleds? Dunno? Just stirring the pot. ;)
I still know people here in MN that call them "snow cats". I say "you mean Tucker "Snow Cats", and I get the crossed eye-ball stare. LOL.

Interesting that Minnesota used to have the most sleds, but Michigan has the lead now. Wisconsin close behind MN.

Do you say soda or pop! Or do you just call everything a Coke, like they do in Texas?

Even is Roseu MN they say SnowCat???
I've heard some people in MT call it snowmachine, usually from people who don't ride or who are older.
I say the international name for a snowmobile should be SLED!!!

That's what I say, but when I tell my family or buddies from back home
(Central, Ca.) that, "I went sledding today" they picture me with a tube or
toboggon.

Clutch-type, or cone-type posi? LOL.

When I was a kid we called it "Ski-Dooin", but out of respect for all brands, I have adapted to "sledding". There was a bunch of Saskatchewan guys....all decked out in bright green and orange of course....in the restaurant in Revy one morning. The "leader" gets up from the table and announces loud for the whole restaurant to hear, "Let's go Cattin!" The whole place erupted in laughter.

(nothing against Cats BTW.....it was just this group of spodes)
