Who will carry a spare drive belt now on the '13?

'biler is referring to the thread that said Burant broke a few on turbos and stockers last year.

On the stocker the breakage was during pillow rock drops in spring snow.

True??? Maybe the belly pan thing. Maybe,,,,.

Bought a driveshaft belt today. $249.00! And it comes in a box that says do not open until install. I guess they go stale or something. Another part for the trailer I guess.

You should have called Michelle at Oregon Trail Sports. Ours were a whole lot less than that.

Yup. Michelle rocks! Best deals around!

I ordered one from Michelle to keep in the trailer.

If we all don't order a spare every dealer in the world will have a couple on hand for the few people who actually need one. Would suck if I needed a belt and they were sold out for 6 months because people are paranoid.

I'm not going to pack one until I hear of people breaking them. That being said, I'll probably be one of the first ones to break one and be stranded.. That's what you're buddy's for right?

"You know the guys that come with the polished tunnel and the perfect hood, I just think to myself this is going to be ugly for them today" Chris Burandt, Burandts Backcountry Adventures 2012 Teaser. You guys need to quit being little school girls and ride. That belt is not going to break. CMX has been doing the belt drive for how long??? Oh, Scott, sorry to break your heart dude, but a Polaris Rep is paid to set up tent, hand out brochures, and transfer sleds from show to show, they aren't a engineer or lead designer so that's most likely why you got the deer in the headlights look! If you going to pack an extra belt with ya, might as well throw in a extra track! Shut up and ride!

:yo:

I've been riding big HP Harleys with Primary/rear belt drives for 30 yrs plus, and the first one i've had break was because of engine failure(seized while riding, so you're screwed anyways) and 3 yrs ago, i had a rear belt break, because it took a small stone up the center, and i did a big burnout without realizing. Otherwise, good luck breaking one. A branch sure isn't gonna hurt it, and seriously, what else can get up in there? I run a CMX Belt Drive on my Rev, and carry a spare belt just because you're not gonna find one too handy, and you never know, but it would be a fluke thing. And if you have it, you won't need it......Murphy's Law...

The belts do NOT fail by breaking...

Sure, anything is possible.

The failure mode on these belts is from stripping teeth from the belts.

They will still "get you out" but the performance in high load situations will suffer.

They CAN fail, from high shock loads, but it is not likely that this will happen and even less likely that the belt will break.

my 2 cents.

Scott..I bet they pay more then that...Work had a drill rig that ran a gates poly chain belt(mini blower belt), they ran about 150 ea for the belts..but in 6 yrs of drilling holes for 4-12 hrs a day..it was still on the original belt..these belts are far far tougher then guys want to admit(I read somewhere that the belt poo uses is double the tensile strength of the hyvo chain they have been using...)

I completely agree with AKSNOWRIDER since I have witnessed these belts on high horsepower blown engines and on expiermental helicopters as part of the drive system and they are much stronger then most people realize.

The word belt is too generalized for this ribbed monster shaft belt! since it does not wear conventionally like most belts. Yes it still wraps around two pulleys or drums but it does not carry a side load it carrys a surface load with much more surface area then most belts and it has proven under extreme heat conditions that is does not absorb the heat like conventional belts do with side loads.

Polaris only spends about $25 to buy those QuickDrive system belts. BUT what are charging the consumer?

Yeah and the prices they have on polaris equipment in Sweden makes you wonder if they buy it retail in US and than import overseas.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't it take a special tool to even install one of these? Just wondering if you then have to carry a tool just to install it in the mountains.

I would... that thing is a PITA to change without

from a previous post.

On a 2013 PRO RMK... if you are carrying a spare toothed drive belt... it will be pretty useless in the field without these small tools.

Hooch256 You are a lot more patient than I am. I sold my 2012 early order Cat and bot a Pro. that way I avoided Cat's drive belt fieasco and got the belt drive on my Pro and didn't have to wait.
