Do we have to carry a spare belt for the clutches and the drive belt now???
I would like to think not, but really...........should we?

when i talked to some of the Polaris guys at a show they said they wouldnt worry about it and just carry a spare clutch belt
they swore up and down that it wouldnt leave a guy stranded (that doesnt do a guy any good though in the middle of the forest if it does snap)
there point was (do you carry a spare chain case on your other sleds)
but my point back is if the belt is 130$$ and can be somewhat easily changed on trail why not carry a spare
so im thinking i will most likely carry both

I plan to keep one in the trailer, but not carry it with me while riding. I feel that the belt will hold up for a long time. And if I do have a failure, I'll have my buddies go back for it.

I heard that the tolerances on the drive belt are so tight that if you got a small branch or a piece of ice in it will snap so just for peace of mind and because it's small and light i will carry both belts.

I think that if that were the case, Polaris would have built a nice screen over it.

That is entirely not true.
The tensile strength on that belt is more than twice that of the chain it replaced. When I rode the new releases last year we beat the engineers up substantially over the belt being open and needing a cover. They said that they had taken ice chunks and deliberately tossed them into it to see what it would do. So far they had not had any failures and the ice would get chewed up and spit back out going through the belt.

The belt should just about be indestructable , our belts are much much longer (snowhawk) and thinner I haven't actually blown a belt in 14,000 miles on mine , but the cogs are a different story for us . I'm on my fourth belt because the cogs have stripped , one time I drove it out by tightening up the tensioner and besides the cogged pulleys turning purple so did the belt . The other time in the back country the conditions wouldn't allow it , changed it in the field , way easier than a chain case . What ever gets ran threw the belt and pulleys won't stand a chance . Poos' belt must really be strong since it has no tensioner , we have to adjust at least once but again , the belts are completely different . The question should be can you change it in the field ?

I will not carry one to start with. First rides on mine will likely be short and if I blow the belt it will be more of an inconvenience than anything. However as the season goes on and I rack up the miles or if I read it to be a common issue I will carry one. Going to buy one just to have around the shop for the day I blow one. Who knows that could just be a wasts of money. But I'll have a spare close to home at least

I talked to the Polaris folks at haydays about this. They said they cut teeth off the belt and pulleys tryin to get it to fail and it didn't. Didn't ask about cuts in the belt. Not saying it won't fail but I'd bet they did their homework. I will not be buying or carrying a spare drive belt. Clutch belt, yes.

My exact question too. I was told it required a special tool to stretch the belt on and off since there is not a tensioner. Anyone heard anything about this or tried to pull theirs yet?

Never seen anyone riding a victory or a harley with a spare belt straped to there bike!!! I even broke one on my victory once, and I have no worries about drive belt for at least 5000 miles!!!

My sled dealer's parts manager at HPAK showed me a belt tool that was stainless steel and fit into the plam of my hand. Said it cost around $75.00 to order and a couple of minutes to pull the belt.

Quic Drive Belt

The owners manual calls for replacing the belt at 2000 miles. Interesting, don't you think. Not one of the pieces of information they broadcast with the announcement.

I think it adds credibilty to having a spare, especially in that most of us will use the belt til it fails.

You dont see bikes jumping with the tires spinning either. IMO this is where you will see them break or at least ratchet at landing

I believe the belt will show its weakness once the masses are using them. I could be wrong. Time will tell. I'd have one in the trailer at least.
