Who is staying here?

as with lots of peeps i think, its not the money, its the change thats happened over the last little while thats got me pi**ed. 83 cents a month is nothing, but to pay for all the moderation and infractions is more than I can stomach. Just my opinion of course, but it seems lots of people agree with me. I guess that puts me in the whiner column.

Well, I just sold another sled today because of this site. That makes 5 sleds and 3 trailers I've sold on here. Not to mention some of the tech info I've gott'en from this site. Half the peeps that have left with 20,000 useless posts I could give a sh!t about anyway. What's a dollar or two a month, big deal. This still is the best snowmobile site on the net hands down and I don't see anybody knocking SW off anytime soon. For the guys that want to leave, don't let the door hit ya in the @ss...... Lol

lol
its .83 cents a month!!!

I'll bet more than 1/2 of the people that are complaining about "the cost" have a costco card or are a member of a similar type membership saving program. Ummm, think about it. You pay to be a member and get discounted prices.
How many people pay for online subscriptions for magazines? That's the same thing too. You're paying for online information & entertainment.
How many people subscribe to snowest and many other print magazines? Again, same thing, you're paying for printed information & entertainment.

I have never in my life, seen so many so called "grown men", piss, moan, gripe & complain about such trivial things in my entire life.

I'll say it again..... It's .83 cents a month
lets put this in perspective people....

It's not the fact that there will soon be a charge for this site. It is the fact that this site has been free for over ten years and now someone wants to "improve" this site with things that nobody asked for. Let's put this in a thought that most can understand. Say you have been married for 10 years and all of a sudden your wife wants to get a boob job. Say you are happy with what she has and you are against it. Wife says oh well I'm going to do it anyway and after it is all done I am going to charge you .83 a month for you to sleep with me, All of a sudden you are being charged for something that you been getting for free for ten years. That just isn't right.

another pep that will understand once it goes payed, there wont be the peps here to buy your $hit no more. allot of those guys with 20000 as you call useless post are the reason you have such a great site to sell your stuff on.they made the site what it is & if you dont see that well i guess you have the class that your post gives off:face-icon-small-fro.the site dont make the site the people that are here make the site the guys with the big post counts are the big contributers with them gone you have nothing.:(i wont pay to stay because of what they have done to the site now if it was like it used to, i would not have hesitated.i help out allot in the yammi section but will not anymore once it goes pay:mad:

The thought of having to pay for the ability to use this site doesn't bother me.

It was, at one time very much worth paying for, especially if that meant faster servers & access to Snowest magazine.

But with all of the changes around here, it honestly doesn't hold my interest the way it used to.

I'm not so much refering to disciplinary crack-downs, I may disagree with some of the calls, but we've proved we need to be babysat from time to time.

I'm more refering to all of the "Upgrades" that have made this site....
more confusing
less appealing
generic
and sterile.

Simply put, the vast increase in catagories has made it impossible to surf the site. (unless you really have no life & nothing better to do)
There is absolutely no reason for all of these catagories....it's stupid!
If that cannot be realized, that is bigger stupid!

And regarding the appearant increase in disciplinary activity, it has chased away many of the colorful charachters that had mad this site the source of entertainment it once was.

I think the folks at Snowest really stepped on their dink on this one & a full recovery doesn't seem likely.

That pretty much says it for me as well . I will pay once if things dont improve dramatically I am likley to visit this site less.

stranger things have happened

For those that have read all the comments about snowest (or as some call it whinning) and still think it is about the money, get a clue. These same people, that couldn't find their way out of a wet paper sack, are the one's staying around to provide helpful information

alot of members are on a few different sites, my guess is once the transition has been made there will be less and less contribution to SW, however, that wont affect the arsenal of info that the memebers have already put up on sw.

At first, I wasn't happy about the new paysite, but was planning on paying for at least the first year to see how it panned out.

However, after watching this forum slide into a depression with low post count, and little to no useful content has got me rethinking. The AC tech page used to be very active with guys that had questions, and very helpful and knowledgable answers. Now it consists of a few relevant questions, mainly things that have been covered 10 times over, and people making shot in the dark answers.

I've seen posts deleted, mods making warnings acting like they are some type of authority figure (what did you get picked on in middle school). Owners of the site lie as to whether or not they own the site. The forum has been inaccessable more times than it is accessable, and the site engineer blames it on the members computer or connection. Supermods overstepping moderators decisions because paying advertisers merchandise quality was being discussed.

I'm now a member of BCR, however, I'm not real pleased with what I'm getting overthere either. There is a ton of chatbox chatter (much more than here) but little activity on the actual forum. I've made a few posts asking for help and gotten really good answers (almost immediatly) and I've helped a few people out with questions that they have had.

As it stands right now, there is no reason to pay for this site, in fact this is the first time I've logged on to make a post in 3 weeks. (My post count was over 1 post a day and my daily logon was 99% over the last 3 years).

Plain and simple, I'm not a trouble maker on this forum, I'm not a post whore, When I post, I do so to help people out or gain knowledge. With the current status of this forum, I will not be paying to stay.

This is exactly what is happening. Once it goes pay this will drop off as-well. I'm guessing 200 immediate members, and then a slow trickle. There just isn't that much activity.

Sorry but your wrong. As long as they keep the fee reasonable and don't rule this place with an iron fist, I think most will stay. Far as swap goes people will be able to view that section, whether you pay or not and I gurantee you all the same peeps looking for something, will browse in that section. You'll just have to put your phone # in your post. SW knows there's other sites out there and any smart business man knows not to push the envelope to far as to lose the masses and sponsors. They've lost some members so what? I run a business myself, you lose a contract the next day the phone rings with 3 more this place is no different. So a few that been blabbing on here for ten years, with thousands of posts are gone, which 90% was just a bunch of a whole lot of nothing have left, so what? In all honesty the tech tips and valueable info comes from the guy that posts when he has something to say, not just chewing the fat on here all day. More than likely, they'll throw their tantrum and be back anyway and if not oh well. Go look at the competitor, you might have 50 people on at one given time and there will be hundreds on here. Really don't think a dollar or two a month is going to change that fact.............. Competition is a good thing anyway, always nice to have a variety of information and sites to look at.:face-icon-small-win

you just got here in 07 so it is new to you, Vector is right on other people built this house, and some intend to burn it before they leave, some have even tried to go back and delete posts because they don't think SW should charge poeple for there knowledge. i would not do that myself i would change them to traditional chinese instead! And pay attention for firetruck sake it is not 1 or 2 dollars a month it's 83 cents! your snowest will soon be like amsnow which is also pay!

Well, I've been here since 2001! And judging from the info that was here then and the info now, I'm not going to pay for it. as far as i'm concerned MOST of the good old boys have left this site for dead. there are still a few old timers, but they are just here to watch the crash! I will be bailing as soon as it goes pay. Maybe it's not alot of money, but i could be spending that money somewhere else!

Not the case. I've actually been here since the beginning. I just didn't give a ch!t about restoring my post count and original join date, when the forum changed to the new format. I've had three of four differen't user names over the years on here because I change sleds so often, which reminds me I need another one since my XP is gone. This is Precisely what I'm talking about, who cares when somebody joined and how many posts you have beside your name, it means zip at least to me anyway. I guess both sides probably have some valid points, I for one have other things of much more importance to worry about, so not a big deal either way for this cat.:face-icon-small-win

Yah, that is pretty lame..... oh well boys will be boys, men will be men, and children, well, we can only hope!

Someday when I go to get on SW and they want me to pay, I will know then that all the good advice on here is probably gone so I then will follow the sledhead nation elsewhere...Happy New Year to All:beer;:beer;:D:D
