Who has switched from skidoo xm to Polaris ?

no need to talk about trail manners, as the doo is far superior..:face-icon-small-coo...i think a guy has to decide based on his own criteria...to some, the light, maneuverable, poo is the best, besides they have the best kool-aide....but backcountry dependability is most important to many, the doo is aces in this regard...i still can't check a first year sled, but if things work out, next year is a given

Was thinking about jumping to an Axys this season from my XM. 0% financing? Yes please! But, I'm worried about reliability!

They all have some issues. Since 2011 the guys I ride around have owned at least a dozen Pro Rmks. The only issue was injectors on a couple '11 models and one secondary clutch. I bought a '13 Etec and spent half the season in limp mode. Dealer never could fix it. Two guys I work with had similar electrical problems with recent model year Doos. Polaris makes reliable sleds based on the thousands of miles I've observed....but unless you're doolusional you'll admit they all have issues here and there but on average all 3 manufacturers make pretty reliable sleds.

Could somebody PLEASE recite for me all the Polaris reliability problems? I keep reading all the Doo guys talking about Polaris reliability being an issue. Funny thing is, even on the internet where everything goes wrong and all problems are reported there are no reports of blown up Polaris sleds as the Doo guys seem to want to crow about.

I have been on a Polaris for the last three seasons and have missed ZERO days of riding with my Doo buddies because my Polaris is unreliable.

It is urban legend that the Doo is any more reliable than any of the rest. None of them break like they used too, that is my observation. My new Axys, a first year Polaris product has been stellar for reliability and performance. Poo has given me absolutely NO reason to change from the best mtn sled on the market, they have that cornered.

The Axys is a better riding chassis, the 800HO motor spanks the 800 etec, I have seen zero reliability issues, I don't work on it all the time and it leaves the rest behind on the snow consistently. Still amazes me that so many of my riding buddys buy the Doo. I have been schooling them for years on what the best sled is. I have even tried to Doolaid myself and do not see the appeal.

Good luck with what works for you though...

As usual...the guys who have the most Polaris reliability issues, are the guys who don't own them.

How are belt drive issues from 2013 of concern for a new Axys? Particularly when that system has been awesome for years now....AND if you don't want a belt drive....you can just get a chaincase model?

This topic baffles me where someone says they don't have problems with their particular item so it must be a internet hoax per say. I've heard guys say the ford 6.0 diesel is the best thing ever made cuz I've never had a issue with one and I've got 400,000 miles on it. Well I've been working on them since they were new and it's the second worse diesel made in the last 15 years, second only to the 6.4 from 08-10 which ford sued navistart for 2.2 billion dollars and won plus engine supply until the 6.7 came out. Just tryin to give a example since it is common knowledge not even debatable that Polaris has been the most unreliable sled on the market for mechanical the last three years. I did recite a small list of problems on the first page. Just cuz it doesn't happen to you has no bearing on what's true in real life tho. The service dept at Polaris is overbooked by me right now and full of broken down pros/axys. There's a axys there right now I just saw with the motor junk and it has super low miles. I'm my experience almost every time I ride and there's a Polaris 13-16 around the last 3-4 years atleast one has problems. Either doesn't run right, explodeds a belt, or breaks down and has to be towed back. Do brand new ski doos have problems, yeah. Do Boeing airplanes have problems, yeah. Everything mechanical has problems some have more than others and that's definitely been Polaris since the 2013 pro came out. Almost everybody knows stock Polaris is hard on belts, yet my good friend I went to high school with runs pros and he never has belt problems he never reads the Internet and he honestly didn't even know what I was talking about when I brought it up to him the other day, yet my other friend has bought 19 belts in 25 rides on his axys this year. Took a guy to Revy this year on his "far superior axys" and he couldn't even begin to keep up in the trees with a t3 and he blew a belt everyday and was scrambling every morning to buy a belt and it's only a 155. I can list some t3 mechanical issues for ya too if that will help. I guarantee you that there is no conspiracy against talking about Polaris problems when in fact they are all true statements.

I am impressed that you as 1 guy has seen more problems with Axys' that our entire Polaris dealership that has not had even 1 blown Axys motor, or sled that eats belts as you describe. Maybe people are blowing motors left and right and just fixing themselves rather than going through warranty? Either that or you're full of it...whichever sounds more likely.

Ya know if you've guys been in the sled world that long dating back to the beginning of the 800 ski Doo, the motor was a piece of crap. Base gasket blowing, cranks junk, pistons etc bla bla. Huge piston recall in the mid 2000's like 2005. Gonnasons downtown Kent Washington was doing recalls on the motors by the hundreds, it was common knowledge and overwhelming for them to handle all of them at the time. I contacted a friend at another ski Doo dealer not too far away and he acted like he didn't know what I was talking about. Sometimes certain things don't happen in certain places for whatever reason or certain shops get certain work. And yet now all I hear is how the ski Doo motor is the best engine on the market. Just cuz you don't see it happen or it's not at your local shop has no bearing on real life, it happens like this in the vehicle repair world every single day. Example "I've never seen that before" while the dealer or a specialist is repairing them by the hundreds. Which is more likely, I'm full of it and so is this huge conspiracy on the Internet OR you simply haven't seen it at your particular dealership/your in disbelief about it?

LOL!!! WHAT!? I can't take this seriously. Does he have his clutch on backwards? $3500 in belts? Something is OBVIOUSLY wrong...

That's what everybody says in cases like this but then they take em to the dealer just like Mike Metzger and the dealer says there's nothing wrong... Mike calls it the Polaris pro he rides has a vitamin B definiciency B for belts. There lots of guys that want to get away from
Polaris strictly because of the know belt problems and constant mechanical problems and the strength/durability issues.

I work at the dealership...so I have a fairly good idea of what goes on there. I will say this 100% again...we have not had 1 Axys motor blow, nor any that are going through belts at the rate you say. We have seen someelectrical issues that were easily solved, and that's about it other than guys hitting stuff. So far, it is the most sorted 1st year sled of at least the last 10 years...doo very much included. And we have a TON of snow this year, and as good of riders as anywhere, including a couple dudes on rmsha circuit on our Axys.

If we had several blown engines and so forth...it would be pretty easy for me to just say nothing. But we haven't...which leads me to believe your internet crusade against Pol is exaggerated at best. Others can form their own opinion.

only one issue on my 16 axys. The power valve controller went bad. Wouldn't go over 7000 rpms. Fixed and it runs awesome. I did blow a belt this year. 1087 miles as of yesterday. THis sled truly hauls. Snappy, lightweight.

I will say that the last XM I rode was a 2014 so I don't know how much it changed since.

I still think cat has a pretty good motor. Probably the most reliable. The M8 has 7000 miles and never been touched.

I own 7 sleds right now for the tour business.

09 M1000
07 M8
09 Summit 800
16 Axys 800
15 renegade 600
13 switchback 600
And of course the 11 superwide. Out of all of these sleds, the super wide has been the best as far as issues.

Second the Axys. But the most fun to drive.

The least reliable, the summit. Boy that thing loves cranks.

My point to this whole rambling? Get a sled that will get you the most dealer support. Who do you feel squares you away on pricing, service etc. They all will need help at some point.

I have a great relationship with all my dealers up here. So knowing that, I bought the 16 pro.

Even with the 850 coming out, I would still own the pro (this year), ski doo burned me on an 07 800R motor and it took me two years to get another. Never buy a first year motor.

The 800 HO was in the short track models in 15.

pfffft bro who do you think I am gonna believe about polaris issues; a guy who works in a dealership day in and out or a guy who rides ski doos?

Obviously the guy who rides ski doos. I bet he has every single polaris sled problem thread in the axys section bookmarked and makes sure he doesn't get further than 5 miles away from the parking lots so he can get pictures of any poo sleds getting towed out from the mountains.

I always find it fascinating too that everyone has friends who have issues, but none of these friends ever post on snow west. You would think people would show up here searching for answer especially after 19 blown belts, but if you have more money than interest in dealing with the issue more power to you.

Obviously then Caleb isn't your service customer

What's super funny is when the doos had huge problems in the mid 2000s, all those guys were such brand loyal they wouldn't admit much either especially that one dealer I spoke of. I do have many pics of what you said but I didn't have to wait and look it's everywhere here. It's all over Facebook every week with another Polaris on the hook or getting a chopper ride out. I'd throw more problem screen shots up but you guys seem either in such brand denial or you literally have the most closed minds ever. I just reread the thread from this week that had "a axys motor go down" .

I can google any product on the planet and come up with unhappy customers or failures. Nothing's perfect. Like I said (twice), I'm just putting my experience out there and people are free to believe it or not. Like I said earlier...the people with the most Polaris problems on this site, don't own one....like you. Happy crusading.

You should do more research if u think it's just ski Doo guys preaching that. There's lots of Polaris guys really open about the problems they currently have but you guys still discount what happens to them since it's never happened to you. That's true denial Lol

I have 3 different brands in my Arsenal FYI

Why research online when I work with the real thing en mass everyday? That's the thing these days...many people believe what they read online from some guy they've never met more than what is right in front of them. I have never missed a day riding Polaris since 2011 and I ride quite a bit, and I have a whole dealership's worth of comings/goings, and trade ins of all brands to form opinions from. So for my personal sled choice...that's all the research I need frankly. Others are free to satisfy their choice by whatever means they wish.

It isn't even denial. Look at the failure rates compared to number of sleds on the market. I would imagine they are all fairly close perhaps with ski doo or A/C edging and obviously yamaha having the best numbers. I would bet that per 100 sleds the number of failures would be close all things equal(in terms of riding, miles, and abuse). Also, why would you tell a guy who works with snowmobiles every day that he needs to do online research to decide how the products he works with every day stand up? That is like telling Chris Burandt he should start looking at advice from the internet on how to ride a sled.

I wonder if anyone would have a way to access data from the # of warranty claims made on the engines to each manufacturer so we could test my theory. My bet would be that there is no significant statistical difference in engine failures per 100 sleds between the 3 2-stroke makers.

Out of curiosity is a poo one of your 3 brands?
