Who has LOTS of miles on thier 800r?

Just read the 800r blowen motor thread, and I'm looking for some hope. My first motor went at 4000km and I just broke in my second in the spring. I don't ever ride anywhere it's possible to tow a sled out of! Helicopters only. I love my sled, but it's hard to relax out there when your waiting for problems.

Let's hear some GOOD 800r stories! Someone must have 6000 km on one engine. How about 10000 km? I mean come on... 70km a ride for me, x 50 days (10 days a month for 5 months) a season = 3500km !

Come on doo people, save me from the cats!
 
Thanks tuesday. i just went and read that thread. I guess the answer is no one gets more than 2 years out of an engine? What would the numbers be for Cat or Poo I wonder? I'm stoked on my Rev but these numbers are just so consistent. I know this is the whole wrong sport for reliability, but AVG 2000 miles is criminal!
 
I dont think its unreasonable to rebuild a 2 stroke at around 2k miles. Besides, why tear down a perfectly good motor. When my next one goes, its time for 860r...I hope I can wait that long. I may have to rejet to help the process a little....

when they changed the block design we figured we would see a 10,000klm motor
get by the wee things that killed it and i think the 09 block could possably be that one hahahahaha

i laugh because they used to last here in the big mtns a wopping 40,000 miles back before they sent the rpm s to the 8000mark , that would be the old 440 everst that delivered that here , blew my mind back then and still does when i think of that today .

sheer economics of the fuel and oil would dictate that they need to focus in the longevity motor trend or rebuilding one of these blocks is a wopping price and hard to swallow .

think they have surveyed us to death and know that the majority of the sleds they sell never get more than a small usage in the mtns versus the ones used in the flat mode
proably why the 4 stroke motor may replace the 2 stroke
happened in the 2 stroke dirt bike world

2 Stroke ditbikes are coming back HARD because the recreation riders can't afford the maintaince or failiers on the 4 strokes like the facotry teams can. Our area was a majority 4 stroke area now the 2 strokes are coming back because the weekend warriors can fix them, temselves and they are cheaper to operate. The 4 stroke is great until its YOUR turn to rebuild it!

So dial the clutching to 7800 and pretend I'm on an awsome 440 and we're set! I wonder how many miles we could get out of a new school engine if you dialed it down. I bet no one (including myself) :D is willing to try....
 
about my other comment....thats just what I have come to expect on something other than a Yamaha...

now, dont freak out...I love my doo....but,

I had an 03 mtn viper with a 30 shot from boondockers on it. over 2K of hard mountain backcountry riding with the button on and off, probably over 40 tanks of nitrous through it. When I pulled my head off in preparation to sell the thing, it still had crosshatching in the cylinder bores. the compression was still A OK. I did run it on the rich side, but still, Still seeing the crosshatching? I find that amazing, especially if you knew how I treated that thing.

My buddy had over 5500 miles on his MMax 700 before it went, and thats because his pto seal dried up and went.

In my opinion, If a person was to do regular checkups on their motor...ie...compression checks (cold and hot) and some preventative maintenance (changing rings, teardown/rebuild) and checks for anomolies, engines would last much longer. But I think most of us just pull the rope and hope for the best.

I am an aircraft mechanic and I have saved a ton of money by just being proactive on my maintenance in aircraft and my own vehicles. I honestly think if we paid as much attention to our engines and sled as we do our riding gear and safety stuff, then our sleds would last a lot longer.

I just think we should do more preventative maintenance instead of repair work:)

I think your engine will be fine, just be prepared if something happens, and NEVER RIDE ALONE. I think you will be happy.

Guess I got my answer. Just gotta learn to love spending money and never knowing if your sleds making it out!
 
You guys are making me nervous...

Bought my XP first week of Feb '08. I managed a whopping 288 miles on it before the season ended. I figure that if the season was half-over when I bought it, I would have gotten roughly 600 miles on it if I had owned it the entire season. (a days ride for us is usually around 35 miles, it sucks to live on a small island) the way I see it, if I am lucky, I have got about 3 1/2 years before my engine dies!

Isn't the point of buying a new sled is so that you get all the latest and greatest in performance and technology, so that you don't have to worry about reliability issues?? You would think that for purchasing something for $11,000 that you would at least get your moneys worth. Maybe I should go back to the ol' twin-piped 670...i beat on that thing HARD, and it is still going strong.....
