Whittier Report *sorta

I just got off the phone with the acting police chief of Whitter, Fred Whittingham (took over for Bob Haskell). I know them thru work.

Anyhow, Fred reports that it has been raining on/off in town most of the day, but wasn't sure about whats going on up at elevation. There is approximately 4 feet of snow still behind the Buckner building and around Salmon run. Lots of snow on the mountain side.
The somewhat odd news, is that of yet he hasn't seen any snowmachines. He said there were a couple of tracks, but didnt appear to be anything going up.

Well there you have it, not the best intell, but all I have heard as of yet. Take it as you see it, and make your own decisions.

Some friends went last weekend and said it was great. They also said there was about 4 ft in town.

I rode last Friday night until midnight and all day Saturday. The snow is great. The City left the gate open this year so access is great. No driving around the gate through the trees. Watch out for the metal fence post by the water tower. I'll be riding there again next week.

The normal trail down has a giant hole at the bottom and alternate routes are required. I still want to know who made the tracks down the STEEP face over my right shoulder. Even I wouldn't try that one.

How many Mikes were riding yesterday, three or four?

Final count on the Mike's was 4. Yeah whoever dropped off that face is Friggin Nuts!!! Had a good time also, M1ke pm'd me earlier, guess his knee is bothering him more then the elbow at this point but sounds like he'll be ok. Thanks for the tour, had a Great time for sure! Enjoy the pic's

Yep, nuttin like a blind freeslide down into big alders, all six of us one after another. Kinda like lemmings! Word to the wise for others... don't try to go down to shotgun cove... it's done for the year.
