Which sled should I buy? Nytro, M8, RMK 600

I just sold my wifes Phazer which had a SC on it. She is not very happy about it either. We have agreed to buy another sled. Dealers are very aggressive on sleds now & I think I will buy a new one.

I have searched a bunch for info on the Nytro, but most info is on boosted ones. Is the stock Nytro going to be to heavy for her. She is not an aggressive rider at all, and mostly rides the trail or stays in my track. She really likes all the perks of the 4 stroke (electric start, no smell, etc.), but is it enough to out weigh (no pun intended) the weight difference in the sled. I don't want to take her off trail in some moderate powder and have a huge stuckfest.

I know the M8 & 600 will be a better powder sleds, so this is not what I am debating. I am looking at the overall picture of what sled she will enjoy, and what is the best value purchase.

I also believe that the Yamaha will undoubtedly have a better resale in 5+ years, and certainly less maintenance.

I am just looking for a help in deciding which sled to go with. Also remember, if my SC Apex is down this is what I will be riding.

Here are the prices:

08 Nyro 40th $7800
09 Nytro $8300
09 M8 SP 153 $8660
08 RMK 600 155 CFI $7600

The 600 is not near as big of price reduction off MSRP

Any insight would be appreciated.

I think all the sleds are really good and you won't go wrong with anyone, however I have a 09' Nytro MTX and a 08' Summit XPX 154 and really enjoy riding the Nytro. The sled does not feel heavy at all and will do fine in moderate snow. Infact I rode in some deep sugar snow and the Nytro did great. Only stuck once going up a hill, didn't use enough smash. You just can't beat the ease of operation and reliability. She'll love the Nytro, but go with the 09', the updates make it a much better sled.

Tough choice for sure. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the sleds you listed. All should be infinitely better than the phazer.

Based on the overall comfort I'd probably pick the RMK for my wife.

Nytro, and Timbersled Mtn tamer...and it will hang with nearly every sled...mtn tamer drops 40 lbs. off it...and increases its trail riding and powder abilities....

once you have done the Mtn tamer you will not go back!!!

4 stroke vs 2 stroke

I recently switched from an 03 viper to an 07 apex and the difference is amazing, the four stroke is a very different type of power that she (your wife) would need some getting used to. The main difference is when you let off the throttle on the Nitro/Apex the engine compression slows the snomo down quickly, so you just have to EASE OUT of the throttle wher on the 2 stroke it would coast a little. The 4 strokers are a bit heavier thats just the way its going to be. Yamaha has to be the most reliable snowmobile out there and if your wife is able to learn a new sled/power difference you cant go wrong.

For my wife I would give her the RMK 600.
I had an 08 IQ chassis last year and they are very easy to ride and comfortable. And those 600 HO's just rip.

The Nytro would be a handful just because of the added weight. She would be riding harder just to accomplish the same things as the RMK.

If you do buy an RMK don't forget to seal around the headlight so snow can't migrate into your airbox! It got to be a PITA.

Have to disagree with ya on the Nytro. That sled is so well balanced it feels light and is very easy to handle. The sled does very well in the powder and trails. It will not set the highmark, but I don't think that is what your wife is after. I have an 09' Nytro and a 08' XP 154X and in most riding conditions I prefer the Nytro. The power is very smooth.

I'm on a nytro....has your wife rode an XP?? You should be able to pick up a new 154 everest for 8g easy.....light and makes a good back up sled for you if needed. Thats what I did.....light, my wife can start the 800 shes small...even if add electric start still be ahead IMO. The stock nytro will work but not outta the box IMO

So strokin, how many hours ya have on a well set up Nytro? You certainly don't feel "the added weight" when riding. I am not a Nytro owner but have quite a few hours on them and they are incredibly well balanced and responsive, certainly don't feel "the added weight". In fact, I have yet to ride with anyone who has "demo'ed" the Nytro and says that it feels heavy when riding.

X2!!

When you put a good rider on the nytro they are fine....but a less experienced rider will fight it IMO....Unless shes a really good rider....if the snow is deeper she will get stuck and you will be digging it out.....thats why I say go with a lighter machine....easier for her to slowly follow you around....I have been there....just my opinion. Remeber I have a nytro....and have rode lots of stock ones.

Bought my wife an 08 Phazer MTX last spring (not aggressive rider - yet) and she found it difficult at times to control. She rode my 08 Nytro MTX a few times, and liked it better (other then wind protection/cold hands) but she jumped on my 07 Dragon RMK last trip and hasn't looked back she says she feels very comfortable on it and the sled handles excellent and has tons of power for her. But then again she is a woman, who knows what next trip brings!

I've got enough hours on it now to know it's my favorite handling and funnest sled I've owned. Yes it is very well balanced and responsive, sometimes too responsive for newer or less agressive riders.
It doesn't feel heavy when riding but is not as forgiving as the IQ chassis to improper steering input or upset weight balance.
I don't know too many women that are agressive enough to truly enjoy the Nytro compared to the RMK.

nicely said buddy my nytro on boost is the best sled i ever own and i owned every sled made and a nytro on boost is a very fun sled and with the big gen 2 skis on it make it even better :D
