Bluebird day yesterday and great snow. Started out with CO logger but he sheared off his a-arms pretty quick and that was the end of his day. Went way up to the summit where the cabins are. That's an awesome play area you got there. Got a little turned around at the end of the day and didn't get back til dark. Pretty whooped after that 80 mile day!
That Stacey guy showed up and came along. Lost us at the end of the day and says we blew by him at the pass creek cutoff or whatever it is. For some reason he couldn't catch us before we figured out we were headed to the wrong trailhead. The GPS showed our parking lot just over this mtn...so we head up this road that goes to the top of that mtn in the middle. Great pow up on top! as the sun started disappearing. GPS showed us being very close to the trail we took in (TP) It was gettin near dark, or I woulda tried dropping off the mtn to the trail below, but on the map it looked like a pretty sketch drop, so we turned around and high tailed it back to figure out what turn we missed. Near the bottom of the mtn trail I see a track that cuts our's as it was turning around. I figured it might be Stacey. Seems we missed our turn about 6 miles back or so. Came in on fumes about an hour after Stacey made it back. Say's he was worried about his gas and that's why he turned around and headed back to the TP lot. By the time we rolled in he had a S&R effort mobilized and ready to roll. Me and Ray were thinking huh? where the F did you go and why did you abandon us? but didn't say anything. He was pretty freaked out, and had to call several people to cancel the S&R! I guess all's well that ends well.
So, we blew by him...and stayed ahead of him for 6 miles and he couldn't catch us? He can ride plenty fast on the trail and should have cought us. Just seemed weird.
