Where to go? First time!!

Togwotee Wyoming, Snowy Range Wyoming, Some of my favorite areas, with a varying terrain for riding, from trails, to awesome back country riding. Heading to Togwotee this Friday, can't wait to get back to the Mountains.

West Yellowstone is hard to beat. Lionshead is close to town and Island Park isn't to far down the road. You can putter up to hell roaring canyon on the trails and ride extreme or tame, whatever suits you. West has several decent restaurants and usually a little nightlife. There's a guy on the corner that makes the most awesome cup of coffee you'll ever drink. I actually had the urge last weeekend to drive 450 miles for a cup.

Laramie WY is a great place to go ride, there is everything there, depending on snow conditions. I've been out there 3 times and I've enjoyed myself everytime riding anything from rental Yamahas to last year on my IQR 600 121". It is a great place to go ride and there is some spectacular scenery. From what I've gathered, it is about as far east as you can get of "out west", depends on where you are comming from

Togwotee is a great first time place.
It's huge, offers a wide variety of riding and you can tailer the area you stay in by your wallet.

I have only ridin a Blues Mountains in WA and Elk River ID and both are cool but I prefer Elk River, buddy took me out there yesterday was my third time so far, actually Boville is where we unloaded this time and is a fun not real extreme ride nice places to sharpen my skills wish there was more powder yesterday, but very cool place.
Good Luck.

Not Fish Creek/Surveyor in MT....holy sheep poop is all I gotta say. Well for the 2nd day of riding out west.

If it is your first time, don't bother bringing your own sled. By the time you clutch it, jet it, tune it, and track it, it will cost you more than just renting a good mountain sled.
The rental shops out here in West Yellowstone do a pretty good job of setting them up to run right. They are well maintained and the newest sleds out.
My riding buddy buys used rental sleds for himself and family after the rental season is over. They all have been darn good sleds and set up well.

The good thing about renting is you can try out several mountain sleds in one trip and decide on the one you want to buy when you MOVE OUT WEST.

You are gonna love it. But to have the full experience, don't bring a short tracker. 146 minimum. 154 ideal for a newbie.

since you have a M1000 you should definatly bring that. The above post was refering to if you had a short track sled, it can get to be quite a bit of work to ride a short track in the mountains. It can be done, I did it this year, but yeah since you have an M you should be more than fine anywhere you go.

Oh come on X...you did great my friend...hopefully Sawyer didn't scare you off from coming back over here ;)

Wherever you do end up going, make sure you have all of the gear that you will need. Make sure that you at least have an avalanche beacon/probe/shovel and make sure that you know how to use them. Practice is key!!!

First time, West Yellowstone is hard to beat, they have everything right there, sleds, parts, eats, and it sounds like they have good coffee also so thats double points, cause most places have sucky coffee.

West yellow and Island Park ,
get the best of everything.
been there twice now and will always go back.

Checked out Rabbits Ears this past Feb, loved it. Deepest snow ive ever ridden in cant wait to go back.

McCall, Idaho because you have a great small town atmosphere, terrain that varies alot for skill levels. Snow that is great. Good food. Sled rental options. Good service shops. Location rides to hotsprings and food. All around McCall is easy to navigate, and people are nice here. www.snowmobilemccall.net

I have heard alot of those other places are nice but McCall is great. Just my opinion.
