Here we go again, getting really tired of the old let's bash the heavy ,under powered,4 stroke boat anchors again by the ignorant dumba$$ who doesn't own one or hasn't ridden one enough to understand.
I DO own a bone stock 06 Vector 162 Mtn SE. Bought it that way as I was unsure as to what I was getting myself into, did a ton of research here on sites like this, magazine reviews etc., but even with all that knowledge was still abit skeptical about the 4 stroke. I jumped ship from Polaris, had a 800 RMK with a few mods and ( still have) a 700 RMK with tons of mods, and bought a stock Vector. Figured before I go and spend a ton of cash on boost I'd give it an honest try, put it up on the hills against the guys I ride with and see what it can do, then go from there. Well, it been 3 seasons, bone stock, and loving it. It will hold it's own with the Summit , RMK and MTN Cat 7-800's 151-159's of the world. Some conditions it will out perform them and in some conditions they get the better of me, but all in all they are pretty equal. Now it doesn't highmark like the XP,Dragons and M's of the world, but if that's all you want to do, then boost it, and you'll leave them behind. I could care less about being high man on the hill, doesn't take any talent to pin it and go straight up, and it all comes down to the one with the most money into his sled who will own the highmark. That is FACT!!!! What I like is boondocking thru the trees, grabbing some air, exploring new areas, etc., and my great big heavy boat anchor is the best sled I've ever ridden for all that, and I've tried them all. The weight difference is irrelevant, I personally, can't feel it while riding it, it handles way better than my old 800 RMK. I also really enjoy the turn key reliability, no adding injector oil, the way better fuel mileage and no smoke smell,( although some days I miss the smell of a good 2 stroke oil in the air). I take my sled to my dealer every October, for 250 bucks I get synthetic oil change and a pre-season tune up, I've used 2 belts in all that time, added new skis ( my own fault for riding way to early/ late in the seasons), hyfax (normal wear) and a ignition switch ( my own fault for rolling it over into a tree well). Until the guys I ride with start to make it hard for me, the sled will get only minimal upgrades, plans include exhaust, shockwave helix and a new track. Sometimes I would like that boost, but it's not required yet, maybe when guys in my crew all switch to newer iron then it'll get boost, till then it's staying pretty much stock.
Riding a 4 stroke for a few minutes here and there doesn't give you enough time to make an intelligent opinion on their performance, if you think it does, you need to revaluate your intelligence. I made the switch to a 4 stroke sled and don't regret it for a second, and judging from the posts everyone else who actually OWNS a 4 stroke loves theirs too, the only people who seem to hate them don't own one. Of course no sled is perfect and some can't get past brand loyalty, but if that's you to bad for you!!
Enough, of my ranting. Ride what you will, don't bash what you don't know or are afraid of and have fun. Ride safe and see you on the hills with my boat anchor!!!!!
