What turbo kit should I buy for my pro and why?

Interesting...how many failures have you seen with the 66 series?

I've personally seen one sled go through 3 66's in one season... I'm glad yours is holding up though, and have seen others get some miles on them too. But from what I've seen with failures, parts availability, and the high cost of parts and the turbo itself, I wouldn't run one. Just my opinion though.

I have ridden 3 turbo sleds in my time.

1. MCX Turbo Nytro-Turn the key and let it rip.

2. Boondockers M8-Same as above. It has very little lag and just seems to run all the time.

3. Boondockers Dragon 800- HORRIBLE. One of my good friends sleds, it has run without problems a total of two times in two years. The other times he has had to limp it back, or get towed out. I feel so bad for him. Crazy thing is he bought it from a really reputable dealer and even had it installed by him. I know of at least one other Boondocker dragon that had nothing but problems as well. Maybe just a coincidence, but the facts point elsewhere.

If I ever Turbo my pro I think I am going to go with HM. He is a Montana guy and I have always believed in trying to stay as local as possible. Very expensive, but I like the fact that he prefers to install them and ride with you if it is possible. Probably just wishful thinking for me..

Mountainhorse just posted an FYI on the 2012 BD kits, in it he included details of an "upgrade" to the 2011 users. If it resolves the issues that many have reported with the setup, great, though I'm not sure I would be happy to shell out more cash to get the setup I just bought last year running correctly.

No way, bd with a upgrade, seems like thats all they do and the last year of the model they finally get it right. They come up with some cool stuff and most usually works but if I can help it I prefer a system that doesn't need upgrades year after year just to run the way others have since day one.

If i were you id look into silber.

1. Most cost effective kit out there, and not "cheap" by any means.

2. If you spend a while reading around and asking guys, they all have loved them, i have not heard anyone say bad things about there silber or had them not runing good etc.

3. Justin is known for his awesome customer support.

is it really any different than the sled manufactors updating their sleds year by year to help improve them? you don't need to get these updates to make last years kit run, from what i've read here most people with a boondocker kit were happy with how they ran (yes several wanted more boost, but they did buy a "pump gas" kit)

I do know for a fact that he takes the sleds up to Lolo Pass and does a lot of tuning on it before he turns it over to the customer...and I know he then rides with that customer for a day to make sure they understand how to tune and adjust it themselves.

I have been with him when he's done that.

This is worth the extra cost of the kit

Its a lot different when it can cause problems without the update, went through this for years on cats until 2011 and they seemed to have a good running kit without any issues. Some ran great, some never ran, and other kits ran flawless. What I am talking about is how many people sent bd boxes back in to get reflashed because of an issue. Don't get me wrong I think bd does some awesome stuff, I just don't trust them anymore, there updates are needed fixes not just updates to make it better. I also think the guys working on the stuff are great guys. Just my opinion and until I see different it stands.

back up as Im curious about a turbo for my 11 163 as well. I need something that will also work at 1k ft and 10k ft elevation. Sounds like Silber has a good reputation.

Just a question....

A couple years ago when Silber got started, they were VERY similar, almost eerily similar, to Boondockers. Are they still that way or are they dissimilar now?

Last years kit was quite a bit different (especially in performance), this years kit isn't like anything out there.

FWIW there is a lot of information Justin has already given on his setup for 2012, the only thing that really hasn't been disclosed is photographs of the finished product.

And anybody who wants to get more information can pick up the phone and talk to him. I have contacted him three times this week and he responds every time. Just hasnt updated the net yet is all. As to the question of the similarities, the Dragon kits were almost identical, to be honest there is only one good way to build that kit though and both manufacturers knew it. It wasnt until 2010 when Twisted made a pro that any Dragon kit seemed to differ much from the other. Now for the 11 pro almost everything is different, mounting, position, fueling etc. The main difference is he ran the billet TBB with the two extra 720cc injectors and fuel rail on it. THe competion ran 3, or even just the stock 2, because "that was ll that was needed" and now this year companies offer an upgrade at an added cost to do the 4 injector kit, and the new kits come with 4 injectors.

Yeah, i was referring to the Dragons as far as the old similarities.
