What the Best Bike For a Tibersled Kit

I ran my timbersled on my rmz450 last year got tired of lack of headlight and kick start so i put it on my drz400 missed the power hate the weight sold rmz selling drz what Is the god honest best dirtbike to put on these kits want wide transmission lighter and electric start kinda looking at ktms anybody have any suggestions

Why would you miss the kick start? As for a light, off-road rider on here has the solution. I don't know what the perfect bike is. Everyone has different wants and needs.

Husaberg FE570 is the best Snowbike in my opinion. LOTS of power and torque, but still light weight and super manouverable both in snow and during summer season. Outperforms my wr450 every day of the week both in manouverability and of course in power.

Just my 2 cents.

txc 511

The husky 511 absolutely destroys the fe570, 500 xc-w, kawi 450, and the dungey 450 in power. I have seen this bike walk on worked 500 ktm's, side by side in a up hill climb, the husky can pull another gear over the others and just drives away. Overall horsepower isnt that impressive on paper, but the stroke and smoothness of the motor combined with the gearbox ratio's make this bike simply work. Now is it the "best" snowbike? i dunno, but it works amazingly well, and obviously I am not the only one who thinks so, I have had 9 snowchecks this year for 511's alone. These guys are coming off of mostly 2011-13 kawi 450's and ktm 500's. MOre power than you can use with huge output off the stator, e start, closed loop FI, pretty tough to beat at the $7500 price tag.

Better by that 511 now! With the merger with berg and KTM, everything that works good will be discontinued by mother KTM ,especially if it faster then the orange stuff!

Confirmed, all of the BMW Platform powerplants are discontinued by KTM for 2014 and Husky is going to be Husaberg.

Talking with Allen Mangum since the first day we tested his prototype snowbike... through all of the iterations he's made and ridden, from a KTM 690, the big bores, his first carbed/NOS Yami's... through his brothers Husaberg and all his riding buddies diff bikes.

He's pretty much settled into what he told me on the phone in January... The 450 Track Bikes are the best all around... with modern EFi setups... super reliable and making very good usable power thanks to the close ratio gearboxes...

Sure, there are more powerful bikes that may get you there faster or higher... but, ALL AROUND... hard to beat any of the new 450's. Ease of ownership based on cost to buy, availability of parts, durability and ability to work on them... great combo!!

Life is good...Ride em hard, whatever you have!!

Is a 4stroke bike WAY better for this application than a 2 stroke?

Are there still 2 stroke bikes out there that are larger than 100ccs?

Snow Bikes for rent

For those interested, I've snow checked 3 ST kits for our 3 2013 450sxf Factory Edition that are going to be available for rent in the Whisler BC area next season. We will offer guiding and renting for the whole season. We will also have demo tour week-ends with KTM on board with us to promote the sport in the Whistler area where it is not so much established, yet!
Thanks
Richard

I've been thinking about a project 2 stroke for a while now after my buddy Randy built his Monster KX500AF... it was a rocket ship. If you built a huge 2 stroke it would most certainly dominate but you would deal with a few differences:
  • they vibrate a lot more, but can be manageable
  • they usually require more tweaking and wrench time to get "perfect"
  • if you hate messing with carbs and jets then you need an APT Smartcarb for set it and forget it, plus you will need carb heat
  • the 500's can be hard to manage if your desire is to switch over to dirt in the summer

The 450 race bikes just require less futzing around and are good bikes to run all summer with. If I were to build a 2 stroke I'm pretty sure it would never see dirt and would be a winter-specific bike. The 4 strokes are mostly no fuss kick and go bikes. Change the oil, keep your air filter clean, put gas in em and go.

I believe Husaberg is finished. Husaberg guy bought Husky. New models maybe next year ! JFYI ! Too bad. The Husa TE 300 is a wicked bike !

The other reason i like the 500's which no one talks about is engine cost. Blow up a 500 and cheap to get running. A 450 thumper will cost you dearly for parts and a rebuild. Tou are looking at 3000+ bill for a KTM/Husa rebuild etc

So far from my friends the KX500 is the bike to beat, but like someone said it comes with the need to modify a few things. Maybe not the best all around but the best in power. With a pipe, carb and reeds its that much more impressive.

570 berg all season and love it! My son went off to college ,,,,graduated and is now in the work force! So Im going to use his KTM 300 and see how it compares! I wanted a second bike and watching the AF 500 build got me thinking! I know in the dirt the 300 runs with the 450's no problem! So going to find out!!! if it doesnt work,,, no biggy! 450's are all over the place!

But the 4 stroked are wicked reliable and rarely blow up. 2 strokes you are assured you will rebuild at some point. I plan to ride my 450f all winter this coming winter and if I am wanting more power I may build a cr500 for the kit only, as I would kill myself in the dirt with a 2 stroke 500..lol

Yes ,,,rebuild my top end on my 300,,, lets see a piston, rings,, a set of gaskets and mabe a fresh hone, as aposed to valves ,valve seats cam chain piston and rings, gaskets ,,,big head labor,!!! I cringe at the thought of a head problem with my 4 stroke! i wont be fixing that engine in the trailer!"
