What simple things could the MFG's do that they aren't doing now?

What I mean is, the simple things about sleds that everyone always seems to change no matter what ... More like, "Fix our pet peeves" ... I am not meaning "Well I wish they'd build a 400 horsepower factory turbo" kind of nonsense, I mean stuff that could be and should be done ..

here's my list

1.) Cables long enough to add up to a 8" riser over stock .... EARTH TO MFG's! Not everyone who rides a snowmobile is 5'8" or under! Please make throttle, brake, electric lines long enough so that should one choose they can put a riser on to fit their body height, then DONT SHORT OUT ON A ****TY STEERING POST.

2.) Comfortable Seats ... Yes, riding in the mountains is best off the seat, but let's face it, it's still nice to have a comfortable well-padded seat to sit on. Or at least have one as an available option

3.) Vents. Who does not put additional vents on their sleds? Why not add more from the factory and work it into the paint/decal scheme to keep the sled cool?

4.) An MFD with an altimeter on it. I know Cat does this, maybe it's just Polaris that doesn't but I know I wish my sled had one.

5.) Regarding suspension: I know that with the advent of air shocks, it's easy to set a shock up for heavy rider, but I still wish they would pay more attention to building suspensions that were tuned, if possible, for a greater range of rider weights. Not everyone weighs 150 pounds.

What are your major pet peeves?

1) Snow buildup on running boards.

2) Cooler decals along with vents.

3) On alot of sleds with digital gauges, that have the gas meter in it, CHANGE THAT! Go back to the metal rod and bobber thingy that actually tells you the correct amount of gas you have left! I hate seeing the low bars and gas light and then going back to the truck when I actually had 4 gallons left!

4) Last but not least, a 400 HP factory turbo with 5 year warranty. LMAO

VENTING.
That is the number one thing that needs to be done.

Cable extension. Make pigtails that would allow us to extend cabling.

An altimeter is an option on the polaris sleds already.

For Yamaha...grips that actually get warm and don't cost $150 apiece what a joke. Doos and Poos More venting for sure, and a exhaust that is quite yet light. Dino :face-icon-small-coo

Venting most likely isn't done because of sound regulations. The heavy foam and non vented is noticeably quieter than one with the foam taken out and vents all around. Same thing goes for those heavy cans! They have to meet certain sound regulations.

I personally would like to see stronger front and rear bumpers, atleast on the poos. And better plastics up front. Take everything that is on the handle bars and put it on the console. I prefer just brake and throttle up on the bars. Wider room for your feet would be nice also. Just 18" up front that are 3" wider would do wonders I think.

Just my .02

I would like to see a factory power plug. They could then sell a bunch of accessories like warmers for cameras, built in GPS holders etc

yes the venting and heavy can is for sound and emissions (can) so they cant really do too much there, but arctic cat is getting a little closer with the adjustable bars but they need to go a little higher, but you can put a 2 and possibly 4 inch riser on all of the M and crossfires without adding to cable lenght. All of the switches on the console would be great, and so would the altimeter on all mountain sleds. I dont know if the other mfg's do but it would be nice if arctic cat had a "build your sled" option to pick color, shocks, windshield, performance packages, venting, etc. A little bit wider running boards wouldnt hurt anything either. More storage so you could actually fit a snowbunje or other necessities on your sled without putting on a bag or mounting straps. And as always MORE POWER!!!:D;) OH ya and a FACTORY INSTALLED SKID PLATE!

I'd like to see a better fit and finish out all the manufacturers. None of this plastics that have varying gaps all over the place. I want to be able to replace that panel and have the new piece fit like a glove with no pushing and pulling to get the piece lined up. I found this with my M7 when I replaced the bellypans, what a PITA to get them on and fitting properly:face-icon-small-fro. I dream of a day when sleds have the fit and finish of a modern day motocross bike.

This might not be minor but I think the manufacturers need to ditch the CVT clutch setup. Its not very efficient and if any water/snow hits your belt, it slips like mad. I think if they could incorporate a lightweight 4 or 5 speed transmission and get more power to the track, that would be awesome. Think about it, if we only can get 100-110hp to the track from a typical 150hp 800cc twin, what if we could get that number up to 130-140hp at the track? Plus I think the power would feel more "instant" from the solid mechanical linkage, no?

Just my thoughts

1. Skid Plate
2. More adjustibility on the temp. for the grips
Sometimes you want them real hot if your wet, sometimes lower settings are fine
3. Longer cables.
Wouldn't even cost extra since they buy them by the thousands
4. Stiffer Shock settings for those of use who don't fit the "150 lb" class
5. Increased air intake
6. More venting
7. Quit producing so damn many sleds, forcing the dealers to drop prices and killing the resale of the sleds. Ever try to sell a used sled???

1. air intake that works
2. clutches that are actually calibrated correctly
3. clutches that do not wear out in one season
4. do not add crap like skidplates so that you can increase the price and I have to spend time removing them

On alot of sleds with digital gauges, that have the gas meter in it, CHANGE THAT! Go back to the metal rod and bobber thingy that actually tells you the correct amount of gas you have left! I hate seeing the low bars and gas light and then going back to the truck when I actually had 4 gallons left!

I don't know about the other brands, but on my Cat the metal rod and bobber thingy is just as bad as a digital gauge. I have had mine laying on "E" for 20 miles then I get back to the truck and only put in 8 gallons of gas...there has to be a way to get an accurate gas gauge though. That woulde be nice for sure. Longer cables and hand and thumb warmers that actually work would be cool too. My M1000 is a turd when it comes to the warmers. If it is colder than 30F I better have warmer gloves for the ride back to the truck. Maybe that is just an issue with my sled, but all I know is they are terrible.

bring back the clear gas tank, like on the older REV chassy's
i love it..know pretty much how much fuel is in there, no questions

the longer lines would also be nice
better/stronger bars w warmers that friggen work
better OEM skis

I would like to see the oil tank removed from under the hood... Have the fuel tank molded so there is a pocket on the side where the oil tank can bolt on with inserts.
This would remove weight from the front of the sled, open up the engine compartment considerably, make it easier to fill with oil, and if you need a bigger tank because of the oil tank, it can easily be extended under the seat and low to the tunnel.
Should make a more balanced sled as well as you could mount the airbox, ecu, and ccu more cleanly in the bulkhead. IMO.
I also think that some type of coating on the tunnel and suspension parts to keep snow from building up.
