What kind of Harley to get??

If you haven't ridden the latest 1200 customs, don't knock 'em!
I'm a sales manager at a large H-D dealer and can ride any bike I want. I've been riding Sportsters for several weeks on my 60 mile round trip commute (on I-90) The only H-D that's much better is a Touring bike and they wont yank a 40 foot wheelie like te EFI 1200c I was riding. You can find a 2007 1200c for just under 10k GET THE EFI!!!

Resale sucks on Yamaha, Victory ect... BECAUSE NOBODY CARES!!
The NADA book just went UP by 20% on late model Harleys!!!

Dont get me wrong I'm not trying to bash anything just trying to mention another option. And like it or not Victory is becoming more and more popular and more of a competition for harley which is good becaue when companies compete we reap all the benefits this is the first time harley has had a big competetor in the v-twin american built market so in the long run should be some good news for consumers.
Of course being a manager for H-D I dont evpect you to be too open minded on the subject but thats ok :)

Moonman I knew you would say that !! I baited you big time!!!! The resale on an FJR is decent. The other thing is you don't over pay to start with!!!!;):beer;:D

NOBODY makes a bad bike (except the "customs") I love 'em all!!
The last Victory I got on trade was a beauty and I was sure it would sell fast and I would make big bucks on it... A year later I sold it for my cost just to get it off the floor. It was a 2007 8-ball sweet bike!

Matt,
Lil bit more than 10k for sure, but this is the Fat Bob Dyna i just picked up a few months back. Seen a few on Ebay for the 14 mark. Love this thing. Get 58 mpg on hwy, all the power ya need with the 96", and looks cool to boot :D
(new to posting pics, hope it goes thru lol)

Since you work for Harley.... What is making all the screaming noises from the primary drives on these '08 softtails, wideglides etc...
Did they change something in the primary tentioner, clutch or what ?
My best girlfriend, Karen, has an '08 Softail and I can hear her coming 3 blocks away from the whining over the sound of the pipes on her bike. Harley shop here says it is normal. Joanne, my other girlfriend has an '08 Dyna, hers screams when pulling in the clutch... Normal ?? Sounds like too much primary chain tention at the shoe.

Not to bash any brand but I highly recommend you go ride a Victory and a Harley on the same day so you can compare acuratly. We had tons of guys trade in their harleys when I was at the Vic dealer. The ride is incredible, they are great bikes and worth looking at. Also cheaper.

dont like the look of the vctory's know there made by polaris but..... dang there ugly.... but then again my future bike will hopefully be a hayabusa :D

pick up a late 90's softail w/88 evo injected at a fair price and put a 95 kit in it. You will be just over 10K and will have a better motor than the 96. Stay away from the v-rod only from a service standpoint (have to drop the front of the engine out of the frame to adjust valves, not cheap). Harleys do hold their value better than any out there, especially if you buy used. A three year old bike will usually be worth the same at six years. If you buy new, don't ever pay over MSRP, dealers all over the country will ship a bike to you for $750 or less. The only time I have paid MSRP is for the Harley Tri Glide Ultra I have a deposit on (only because each dealer only gets two and some of them will get a premium for them).

Lots of great choices for bikes these days, we're lucky in that regard. Reality is if you're gonna put on lots of miles and long days travelling and need features that actually work for bad weather, wind, rough hi-ways or 2- up riding, you'll eventually end up on a Harley or a Wing cause they really are the cream of the crop for that purpose.
If you're gonna ride around town and pretend then you'll be fine with one of the other choices, some of them sure are pretty. That big fat back tire looks pretty cool till you try and wrestle that thing up on the edge on the long sweeping hi-way curves, gets a bit tiresome.
The crotch rockets are a different animal all together IMO lots of fun in a different way.
Not much different than cars, T/A 's and Z 28's and Irocs are pretty groovy fun cars, but they ain't no Vette.
Same goes with the bikes, if it was just Harleys marketing savvy, the appeal would have fizzled years ago. Thats just reality.

heres what you do ..go find a wrecked decker with a shovel in it then take a Marchant frame rake 10 degrees and stretch it 4 inches ...mold the thing and ride the piss out of it ..that,s what I did in 98 .....oh yeah right to all those guys that are wanna be bikers ...bikes can be built in back yards ...

bigal should find this amusing ......;)
