What is the Best, Lightest, most Compact Tree Saw

Holy Chit Scott. you come aross one of those pissed off greenies with a ski pole. I'd say you have the edge.:eek:

rei has a good selection that where i got min also 20 bucks but you wont have to order it

guys, we need to do a better job educating each other about businesses that are not snowmobile friendly....

REI is a HUGE supporter of the greenies. please, spend your hard-earned $$ at retailers that are not trying to take away our right to ride!!! :mad:

i have a gerber that i got at gander mountain....im sure cabelas or other retailers will carry it as well. rubber coated metal handle with lock. comes with a nice case and an extra blade. i think it was like 20-25 buks.

I have one in my shovel handle and it works great. I also carry a leatherman supertool. You would be suprised how well that saw works on smaller stuff up to about 3" dia. Of course I am talking about trees on my own private property. I'm sure none of us would cut anything on public land:D

This year I will be carrying my "What a saw". It has both wood saw and hacksaw blades and can chew through the big stuff. It's been in my quad for years. Going to put it along side my probe and attach with a couple of velcro straps.

Aren't the saws inside the shovel handles snow saws?
That saw looks sweet. I'd like to see a larger pic of it.
HMK and some other companys are now making wood saws in the handles.

I got one simalar to the Snobungie but I go it form Home Depot for $10. A couple years ago. Have used the heck out of it. :eek: I mean others have used the heck out of it. :D

Here is what I have.

Scotts got it,, thats the chit. Same thing I use but looks like my handles are still intact, for now. Works awesome for getting around and under things when you're really planted in a tree or something though. plus you can get a guy on each end,,, makes for some serious quick cutting.

I had one from Walmart and now have one I got from True North Adventure. I'd avoid the cheap Walmart ones they cut through most anything but thats the problem I managed to slice my glove and thumb open using one. The plastic molded handle gets really slippery when wet. My new one has rubber which stays grippy and is a lot sharper.

this thing cuts through trees like butter, ive found a few sled magnets in the last couple of years... :beer;

Likewise, I have a couple of these and they get used alot and stay shape. I have had some of the budget ones, and finally tossed when I had to depend on them for a fire one time. The cheap one are fine to cut a branch here or there, but get old fast when making serious cuts.

How long are the cutting blades?

Just guessing I would say 10-12" so you are not going to cut big logs up. But 6 inchers are not a problem and can keep a decent fire with that. I am liking the looks of those chainsaw blade ones as well. I would like to keep one of those coiled up and stashed on the sled as well for the real emergency situations that we all hope never happen.
