What is a good dedicated snow and ice tire for a diesel pickup?

I ended up trying these winter Hercules avalanche tt. I drive mostly pavement pulling a trailer.

My tire guy couldn’t get me Snow Claws for some reason, but had Blizzak LTs in stock, so I went that route.

Seem to drive ok so far. Haven’t been on the snow yet. I live down 2 miles of gravel and they grab rocks really bad.
How did they end up being in the winter? Looking at them for my next set.

Depends what size tires as to what is available. Tirerack.com has comparisons for a lot of tires. The General brand Grabber Arctic LT is rated high in the 265/70-17 size.

On pry my 10th set of duratrac wranglers in the last 10 years, over 3 different pickups. They're so good all around, I can't get myself to try anything else.

Cooper snow claws were a disappointment I’m waiting to here back on warranty. Studs were coming out and wear was fast and not very consistent wear.

I got back into a 1 ton dually this year and since they are notorious for poor traction to begin with I needed to find the right tire staying with the stock size. I decided on the Toyo WLT1 and couldn’t be happier. Very quiet on dry pavement, disperses water very well in the rain and excellent traction on fresh and packed snow/ice, even in 2wd. Not sure about wear yet since I only have 1000 miles on them but will only be used in winter since they are a fairly soft rubber.
