Yeah... as we sat there notching the front of the sheared off rod end with a file... it dawned on us that it MIGHT be a tad easier to do it beforehand on the other side...

How Flimsy do you guys need to get ?

Everything is a trade off, less weight more bent parts. Maybe they should do Crash Rating's on Sleds like cars. Imagine if your Tow Truck was as flimsy as your new Light Weight Sled.
