I have a Northface Recon...it is small enough to be comfortable but big enough to carry avy gear, spare gloves and gogs and some scooby snacks!!.....back pack was inexpensive too, like 30 bucks

Dakine heli pro for a small pack. Dakine Poacher for a bit bigger for extra clothes, food, water. The poacher has an external pocket for you shovel, handle, probe so it doesn't bang around with your stuff and you don't get snow on your stuff when grabbing your shovel. In the pocket means there's little chance of your gear falling off the outside of your pack. You can bend the frame to fit your back too.
