well one rider tells his side of the story BC

Heart goes out to that guy, having to walk away to save him self with a friend pleading for help, going to be a long time before those fellas can get past that situation. If you pray remember those guys in them, they need all the help they can get.

no doubt....I can't even imagine how you would deal with having to say those words to your buddy. At least the 3rd didn't hit him and he got out. Still I don't even want to ever even have to think about facing that situation.

That was heartfelt in my family, hard for him and the others that survived. Hope everyone learns from this, ride safe.

Can someone give me a link to the story in the first post?

Company puter won't let me access Yahoo link. Can't download Windows Media Player.

Prayers to families involved.

Thanx-Jay

Sad as hell, but fk. why not even try to dig out the one guy they saw on the beacon? wtf?? you never know right. that pisses me off there. "we decided it was too deep to dig". wtf. how do you know unless you start digging. RIP, but if it was my buds under there, I will stay the night digging for them. I would expect the same in return for me.

 are you questioning what they did!!!! buried twice, dug there buddy out and got out because it was unsafe smart decision... had they stayed the last and biggest avy that happened as THEY WERE LEAVING THE SCENE!!! probably would have took them out.

It is very unfortunate what happened.:( you be how you want to be. I will die for my friends. sorry you dont understand. I would like to have that hope if I am covered under the snow.

So to answer your question,.. YES.

If they can live with that, fine., I couldnt live with that decision.

I just hope I never have to be in that position..

Come on man, pay attention to the details before you spout off stupid chit. They didn't have any tools, not even gloves. They were trying to dig Mike out previously before the second slide came down and buried them. So yes, they did know how deep Mike was. And they new there is no possible way to dig through 9 feet of setup concrete snow with their bare hands. Have you ever even been around an avy? Seen how hard the snow sets up within minutes after the slide?

That's why it is important for every person in the party to have shovels and probes, not just beacons. It is impossible to excavate through 6+ feet of snow with your hands. The only problem here was they lost all their gear in continuing slides.

Yes, I have been around avys. Big ones and I know how setup it is. yeah, prob. they couldnt of saved him. but..... That but would haunt me for the rest of my life.

This is the difference between me and you I guess.

It is pointless to get into a pissing match on here over who would do what is pointless.
None of us really know how we would react in that situation.
The biggest, bravest, toughest SOB may crap himself & cry like a little girl under those circumstances.

Furthermore, yes we are all loyal to our riding buddies, but we are also responsible to loved ones back home.

Go Deep, your intentions are honorable, but you can't say what you would've done unless you WERE ACTUALLY THERE to make that choice.

To die pointlessly would help NOBODY, and would only compound the devastation back home.
Thankfully 3 survived due to their actions.
That's heroic.

ouch...I don't like the way I feel after seeing that. It's good for everyone here to see even though it is such a terrible thing.

From Ortovox S1 Product manual:

Average time to free a person from a snow depth of approximately 1 meter:

Avalanche transceiver + probe + shovel = 11 minutes
Avalanche transceiver + shovel = 25 minutes
Avalanche transceiver only = 1-2 hours

I don't know where they got these stats, but they certainly are an eye opener.

that "BUT"..saved the three lives..that "BUT" was not only the right decision for them but as well their familys...that "BUT" is the decision every person left behind in that slide would have expected and would have done as well..The only person they had a possible location was 9 ft down...since the first avalance..alot of time passed..i do applaud the decision you would make..to stay..to become a victim as well...maybe many of us would do the same...maybe just maybe you would not stay in the SAME circumstances..we NEVER know till were there......now in this real world circumstance i applaud the decision these three have made...so do their loved ones...and im certain so do the guys that were victims that the mountain consumed (trust me the three that have survived are victims as well)..and thats what counts...
..fate not only delivers death...it also delivers life..neither can be changed
