Well I guess I’m now of the ones who’s Dragon has let him down.. First I will say thanks to the people on the forums here who “told me so”, yes I was listening. I pulled the topend off my sled this weekend to put the fix kit in and here’s what I found. Piston’s looked great no scores but were out of spec. on the cylinder clearance coming in at .0075. I was surprised to see most of the cross hatch gone on an engine with so few miles but everything looked good to me. How wrong I was, after honing the bores I noticed a hairline crack on the intake side of the lower cylinder skirt, needless to say my warranty ran out 30 days ago. I guess I should he happy I found it during my pre-season inspection and not had it blow while 40mi in the back country, but I’m just not.

Just another great polaris product, its no longer polais problem its now the owners they get stuck with the bill, i tried exsplaining this years ago all i got was flammed who's laughin now. sorry for you loss though

Best chassis out there IMO is the iq&pro

jim did you use a nickasil hone or just a regular stone hone to break the glaze up on the cylinder, Im thinking about doing "the fix" as well. Not to go off topic but Ive heard of people running 2011 pro pistons in the dragon to correct the problem, just rumors though.

Civerson86 - Funny you should ask.. I called quite a few shops (and some you'd think would know better!) in search of one who had the actual Polaris approved 3 blade stone setup. Who was that you ask? Pierre's in Kenmore for you Seattle folks. After seeing/reading/talking to people, IMO the "fix" is not optional... It's mandatory. I can't speak to the pro pistons because I've not looked into that option.
xc6rider- under 600mi on a sled i bought that was still in a crate when I had the 2010 update installed. Pirrre's is looking to see if Polaris will honor the warranty even though I am 30 days out (and I didn't buy it from them).. Yeah, I'm holding my breath...

sorry to hear that, and so close to the begining of the season. I have the 10 D8 and im just hopeing to get through the season
Good luck with polaris hope it turns out well for you.

You just saved yourself a pile of money by finding that. I'd guess 60% of the 08-10's in the swap meet are advertising a new motor or top end.

Mine had just shy of 600 miles, bought it new in crate last fall. Lost my EGT sensor on last ride, and also spoiling my second of two trips planned last year. Decided then I was trading.

Jim, what year is your sled? I assume 08 or 09? And you had the update done.

If anyone can help you Peirre's can, they are good bunch.

Nobody's laughing they are just tired of your negativity. That toxic attitude doesn't help these people it just makes the situation worse. Saying you told them so does a whole lot doesn't it?

^^ yup, what bugito says. this is what my post in the other thread is directly referring too, since you continue to make my point. and honestly not trying to piss you off even more (although it probably will), it does really show your age. i know b/c i was (and still can be) the same way. you have made some valid points and been helpful in the past so i'm guessing, and hoping, in a few years you will develop into a rather valuable forum member.

And like i said in the other thread that iam not ok with what polaris is doing iam going to voice my opinoin wheather you like it or not the more this gets out there the more people will know of what they are buying.

Pura did you read that poor fella that was all worried because he thought he bought a lemon he knew nothing of the polaris engine issues "he bought a pro" but if this was out there more for people to read i bet there wouldnt be as many sold polaris's out there.

To the OP iam sorry i didnt mean to come off as an a-hole, the previous owner probley patched up the sled to sell it to the next un-exspecting victum just tryin to get this out there so no more people get taken advantage of.

So Dart what about me??? Your negative attitude comes off as being bitter rather than helpful, I have read several posts with your comments. No doubt this engine has some big issues but being bitter makes you look like an "a-hole" rather than being helpful. No denying that the engine has a high failure rate but there is no need to be an online bully to other users and victims of the polaris 800 CFI failure. You are only hurting your cause rather than helping it along.
I see you looked up my posts and gave me a bad rating on every one. Very nice, You asked for it in your post, I was just obliging your request.

I am bitter its bs, sorry i dont just let things slide like most if i come off as an a-hole to you iam sorry if you personally knew me you would think different one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. Iam just not ok with forgetting like the guys with the pros are doing and then there talking like everything is ok even if the pros do have problems guys over there seem to think that warranty will cover and it will but those guys or the next owners will be stuck with the repair cost JUST LIKE THE D8 guys are now

One last one off topic.

Dart, Good on ya! I did not figure you were wanting to rip another guy as much as POO. I am on your side as far as your argument goes, I just take a different approach. At 24 I had my first good job, scraped some dough together for my first new F150. If it had blown an engine at 40,000 miles I would expect it to be covered by ford. And they would have taken care of the issue without a doubt. The problems with the 800 CFI is unacceptable and the consumer should not let POO forget. All they need to do is look at the blown motor poll. With changes coming online they should have figured out how to put the new motors into the old chassis. But they only looked ahead to the PRO, Leaving the dealers holding the bag. Some of the dealers did what was right some did not. If your dealer hoses you go elsewhere next time. I drove 300 miles past 4 DOO dealers to buy from another one that has always done me right. I tell the other dealers about it all of the time when I am buying parts or window shopping for sled. I saved $700 on that sled, the other guys would not budge for even a cover, they do not get my business.
I am a PRO guy now, But I put 1000 miles on a 2010 800 RMK last season, I bought it new last year, I also knew what I was getting. I also ordered a PRO and sold the 800 CFI for less than I should have. Told the guy about the issues, he had done his homework and was buying the extended warranty to cover the engine.
Polaris has not taken care of its customers very well but is trying to make up with a 4 year warranty on the PRO. What they should have done is offer a warranty after the fact for the 08-10 800CFI at a reasonable price, Like the PRO's snow check option, $600 for 3 or 4 years, transferable. That would go a long way in help their image and let us know they are behind their products.

I to belive that polaris could have done a better job fixing the 800's. They spent the money on the recall but it's just to bad that it wasn't a good fix, only a poor band-aid. It's what we're going to see from many, many manufacturers in all kinds of industry across the bourd, not just sleds. The mighty dollar is just to important for huge companies to pass up. Look at GM, Or our own Goverment. But on the other hand all that big business has lead to the technology that we now have available. Isn't this an exciting time to be alive!!!!

UPDATE: Just got the email from Polaris. They're not going to cover it. Oh well, being out of warranty I really didn't think they would but I had to try. US chorme had a look at the pictures and says the repair is a common one and for just under $500 and 2 weeks they will have it back ( mic'd using my MTK pistons) in my hot little hands ready to go..
