Warranty???

Hey, I agree. Polaris should work this out with you. I'm on your side and I hope you get some warranty work done. I just figure Po will tag it as "Wear and Tear". Let us know how it goes.

i hope that is not "normal" wear and tear.

The tunnel is similar... both made of .063"...

But the drop bracket and is much differerent.

I will compare more carefully when my new one gets back home. I "think" that there are some issues with that drop bracket as you hint but again I will have to compare them much more closely. My d7 was ridden like it was stolen and had no issues at all. It even fell off a 5' high deck and landed on its side with the brunt of the impact hitting directly on the rear curve of the running board support tube. only damage was to the tube it self.

I would have thaught the Assaults would be more prone to this type of damage.. I do think that the 163 will be more prone to this then the 155. I did not have gas on the rack when this happened however I think the inertia on the unsupported section of the tunnel when the suspension bottoms is the cause of this failure.

i thought hte assualts had some extra bracing?

I assume it is just the one side that needs replacing? The coolers look OK? Not bent downward on that side? There needs to be stronger tunnel bracing on the inside suspension mount bracket fore and aft, period bar none! Now I see why the guy at the show didn't like me knocking on the top and sides of the prototype tunnel. Sounded tinny! Then you should have seen him looking at me when I was compressing the rear suspension, Yes I was not easy on it!

Have the dealer check the rear shock as I have seen one that had messed up guts from the factory that rendered it very 'light' on the valving at best. Caused the sled to bottom out repeatedly and things were bending, not to mention caused poor drivability.

Sounds like a case of the 08 xp....Bring out a bold new sled, advertise how light it is, and then watch the following years creep up in weight......they need to make em a bit beefier...

....remember all the "PINECONE" topics regarding the XP in 08??

No warranty yet

Just thaught I would provide an update on my situation. First response from Polaris was, DENIED, Reason: excessive weight carried on tunnel? At the time of failure there were googles, gloves and lunch in my genuine Pure Polaris bag, Oh and a shovel. I will reiiterate that there was no gas or gas can on the sled at the time that this happened. I will keep all informed. I still have faith in my dealer and at this point they are still going to bat for me. If this happens to you my advice is to take all accessories off the tunnel before taking to the dealer as it seems they will try to use any excuse possible to deny this type of claim.

I don't rememeber the exact number but I do know on the back of the tunnel they state not to place more then a certain amount of weight on the tunnel. I think it is 15 lbs? What you are explaining would not be close to this 15 lb limit and therefore wether you had your bag on it or not should not matter.

I hope this works out for you! If this starts being an epidemic I hope someone will come out with a cheap fix. Pretty said that Polaris skimped weight in an area that needs much structural integrity.

Yes I know this... That is their out. Even though I had less than 8 lbs on there at the time. Dont buy the Polaris gas rack and can cuz if you do when it is full I beleive you are around 16lbs... I know this is not going to remain an islolated incident. There recomendation was for me to just fix it myself???

Thats unreal man. Sorry to hear about this. I hope this is an isolated incident for the rest of us.

I know of 2 others for sure. one who has been approved for warranty tunnel. I would stress that everyone who has a pro look closely at this area of the tunnel. Early detection may = prevention of further damage. I am also beginning to wonder if the suspension travels completely to the slide rail bump stops. if not this puts allot more stress on this area. as soon as I get mine back and have a really close look I will post what I find.

Maybe some tunnel supports like these ones would solve the problem??

Several options available with the brackets. Give me a call to discuss 866-610-0456

i would get ahold of the other peeps who have the same problem and try and use this as leverage. if you were the only one who had this problem seems you woud be in a bad place. but with others having the same issue i think this is a advantage for you. thank god for the internet so when you hear the infamous "we haven't heard of this happening before your the first" line you can simply say yeah i've got the names of 3 other guys with the exact same problem!!!

sleds are inherent to problems and breakdowns, always tell my buds they are the biggest pos's you'll spend over 11k on. what other purchase have you ever made for that kind of coin and can't wait to get it out the first time to see what all needs to be fixed to make it somewhat reliable??? know we as customers always want the newest and best but this doesn't mean manufacturers can use this as an excuse to release products they know are going to have problems and then fight thier customers when they try to get them fixed.

i think if they give you the infamous your the first line, when they fix it you should get a bonus for showing them a new problem area;) know how tough it must be to be the dealer caught in the middle, trying to please thier customer and fighting with the manufacturer to get them to do what is right...

Well after seeing this being i'm 6'6" and 280 i'm going to remove the stock side plates and make a set out of 1/4 inch 6061 aluminium this weekend before something happens. And use nice steel cherry rivits and bonding agent when I put them on...should solve any problems with that area.
