Good point, you better have cash on hand to support the family for awhile...it takes time to see profit that ends in your pocket.
Perhaps you could look for a dealership that has an owner who is wanting to ease out some. Mayeb buy in for 1/3 or 1/2 and get the agreement that he sticks around for a few years till you learn the ropes and either buy him out or take over the majority share and running it.
Then it's not as big of a jump...
