Vail pass

Hey does anyone know if the trails have enough snow on them to break in a sled? I can only look at the camera they have but cant tell much from it or any other places that have enough snow to ride around on for 4 or 5 hours?

Vail Pass should have enough snow to cruise around on. I know a guy that went up on Sunday, there was about 6". Yesterday it probably got another 12". You are not going to be able to go crazy, but you can at least get out.

Drove over V/P yesterday and stopped in the snowmobile parking lot. There was probably 6-8 inches in the lot,was one trailer with an older sled on it,the guy was gearing up so I didn't ask if it was worth it.From the looks of Shrine Pass road I'd say wait for another storm or two at least.
Weather service is calling for winter weather advisory thru Friday.

i know if i'd go up i'd be the *** driving up the road to the top lot...if there was only 6-8". :p
i've rode back down to the freeway lot before on 100% mud/gravel before...after going out in the morn and having it melt off by noon/afternoon.
this early, your prob better off driving up shrine pass road a few miles.

I rode Vail Pass Tuesday and again yesterday. The roads have plenty of snow, I was breaking in a new motor in my IQR so the conditions were ideal, as you can see in the photo.

Yesterday, however, I found that they had PLOWED Shrine Pass Road like a runway at DIA; it was edge to edge, down to the dirt all the way to the turn to the radio towers (near Shrine Pass Inn). It appears they had some heavy equipment 'snowed in' up there and needed to get it down; I saw them loading a huge crane near the rest area. There's still good snow up there, just be ready for 1.5 mi of well manicured dirt road before you get to the good stuff!

Vail Pass .... I was just talking to a guy about that the other day. He came into my office in Keystone to get his season pass, he works for the Stat of Colorado. He mentioned something about the Division of Wildlife closing some of the area (Vail Pass) because of the Lynx. He said that their has been a growing population of Lynx in that area and the state is seriously considering closing some of our riding area.
Just thought I would give you a heads up on the topic.

Yep, because its good to have a single area overrun with a single predatorial animal..makes sense to make sure they thrive and build in numbers.

What ever excuse they can make to close areas so the plank pushers can dominate the area...

well if anyone is up on the pass tomorrow you should post back on here and let me know if anyone is riding i have to work tomorrow but looking to go up sun. and ride around on some trailer for alittle for break in that would be good. The vail pass cam dosent show much just dont want to spend the time driving up there and not being able to ride

I'll go... Won't be doing much; just want to get out and burn some gas, spin the track a bit. Still waiting on a bumper, just called and "it's at the powdercoaters, we'll be shipping it next week".... been saying that same thing for 6 weeks now

So no wrecking, but i'll go ride :D

hey I was wondering if anyone rode or drove by vail pass today and what is it was lookin like? And is shrine road still plowed or did that last storm cover it again. If anyone has info please let me know don't want to waste the drive for nothing :)

Linx huh. That area has 9 acres of uselesness area for every acre of public land and the linx like to live where the sledders can go? Guess that means that lynx need the sledders to thrive. I'm sure the sled trails do provide them a much easier way of getting around, thus saving energy and surviving better. Better not mess with what works! Of course, we know the real agenda behind all their bull-chit. They act like wildlife is the same as granola munching elitists and don't like sleds or noise. No proof to this at all.
