im looking at buying a CR chassis and tunnel for my sled, the person thats selling it is selling at a decent price, only issue is he had a stock chaincase that was dropped and rolled, and i have an avid setup. does anyone know if his bulkhead setup will work with my avid chaincase without me needing to buy new tunnel plates ?

It would be alot of work to move the driveshaft and jackshaft back to the original location. You'd have to re-cut the holes and weld up the mess from the drop and roll. Why not run the drop and roll with the stock chain/chaincase? It will fit a 3" track, I ran mine dropped and rolled for 4 seasons. My $0.02.

yes apex, i dont want to change the drop and roll idea......i have a 3 inch track, my avid is dropped and rolled...... it dropped the drive shaft (from stock) about an 1 1/4 and moved it back approx 5/8 of an inch. this chassis im looking at was dropped and rolled with a stock chaincase, im just wondering if the avid will fit into that chassis without to much work...........but im thinking no ?

and i guess just for the hell of it, is there a difference really performance wise or in clearance between track and bulkhead with the avid vs the stock setup ? i dont want to part with the avid to to badly....if i dont have to

With an extended chaincase you are right, the jackshaft is left in the stock location. I wouldn't run both together if that is what your thinking, the sled would handle like a POS and the skid would have to be mounted really low in the chassis in relation to the drive axle. IMO, there is nothing wrong with the drop and roll with stock chaincase, especially when you break parts and are trying to get up and running quickly.

Here is drop and roll using stock chaincase. Plenty of room for the track to miss the jack shaft and 3x as much room to clear the cooler. You can run 3" with 7 tooth drivers and 8 tooth with 2.5".

With the extended chain case you can run 8 tooth, 3" paddles, 3"pitch with lots of room to clear front cooler , bigger benifit with being able to go with the 8 tooth drivers.
With the drop and roll , you have to stay with the 7 tooth drivers to run a 3" paddle (less benifit ) you get the clearance with the front cooler but not the jackshaft!

i have 8 tooth drivers in my sled now, alittle hazy though on why you have to switch to 7 tooth if you do exactly like in the pictures above, arnt you still moving the drive shaft the same amout(ish) as an avid ?

With a drop and roll stock chain case ,You have to deal with the clearance between the jackshaft that is now located between your front cooler and the track!

Wont clear the jackshaft with 8 tooth drivers and 3" track. Same drop and roll used on that tunnel you are looking at. If you want 8 tooth and 3" you need an extended chaincase, just not enough c to c clearance between the driveshaft and jackshaft.

If you need some 7 tooth, I have a near new set of avids for sale :face-icon-small-win

yeah i agree with that.....i usually have a second chain at the truck, if it blows a hole in the case, well i guess thats what jb weld was invented for :face-icon-small-ton

The chassis i am running this year has an extended case, it is a beautiful case, I hope I never have a failure. :face-icon-small-sho

Only failure I've had was because of my own stupidity, I forgot to rotate the jackshaft back and forth as I tightened the chain to take the slack out.

for future reference, what kind of slack should there be.....hamstring tight ? i noticed there really isnt a whole bunch of adjustment with the avid

Hmmm, hamstring, thats what is holding my knee together. Hope they are tough!! :face-icon-small-sho

I go finger tight while wiggling the brake rotor back and forth. Its nice to tighten while the sled is on its side with the cover off. Not positive whether you can do that with an Avid case?

The avid extended chain case is a pain in the !ss to get the chain set right :face-icon-small-fro, did you install a vent on your cover:face-icon-small-con

I would run the Stock case like Duke said....Drop and roll, all stock Yamy parts, chain included...You could sell the Avid case and 8 tooth drivers and be on par with getting everything you need from your guy!!! Just my .02cents. :face-icon-small-hap
