Update on the Reno Film Festival

It's sad how good things started with the right intentions end up sour because of all the different personalities that get involved. 2009 WAS THE first year WITHOUT an annual forum ride. Sierra Sledders, West Coast Sledders, Team Summit- I can tell you I've seen more splitting of the riders in the last year than I can ever remember and all three of those named contributed to it. We need more passion for the riding and less of the ego's.

Too bad about the film festival, it was an impressive start. But 9 months and the donations still haven't found there mark, there is no excuse for that!

Jeff, I sent a e-mail to my contact and cc'd you on it.....lets hope that works. Also, what about posting up in the general forum......I bet someone would hit on that?

Raymond, we had an Iron Mountain WCS website Weekend trip April 3-5th that was a huge success. It was 9 pages long 3765 views 204 posts and plenty of great pics with a lot of smiling faces and no splitting of riders that day. I am sorry you were not there having fun with us.:beer;:beer;http://forums.westcoastsledders.com/index.php?showtopic=1943

We had many rides with large groups all year. Another ride I can recall was out of Yuba Pass, we had approximately 30 people that day.

thanks bud...wrote you back an email yesterday...still no word from anyone. shoot me the direct contact you mentioned and we can try that.

you wouldn't think it would be this hard to try get a hold of a charity like this.

We did have a mini- Team Summit/Boondockers ride at Castle at the end of the season too. The same weekend Queen got hurt.

Jeff, the lady that responded in the e-mail was the contact I was refering to and I also had a response from his sponsor but that was the site we already know about. After I sent the e-mail last night I got hit with my daughter going in for emergency surgery so I will not be able to check my home e-mail till later tonight.

If I get a chance I will post something up in general.

just my 2 cents.

Guys, life is too short for this, just mop up the mess. If you do the reno thing again, I suggest planning it out before in great detail. Who does what, budgets, where the money comes from, reserve money for UNEXPECTED ISSUES, etc. Charge some money at the door, these type of events need to at least break even. We spent money for food, hotel, gas, shopping for the wife ($300 later doh!). I would have paid $5-$15 to get in no problem. Any left over money from the event could be donated or held in reserve for the next one.

This type of thing happens all the time unless you really have a solid well laid out plan. I can't tell you how many times things get screwed up without detailed planning. You just have to fix it and move on.

It might be helpful to have reps there to receive a check on the spot. I think you really want to have everything closed out and completed before you leave the site.

And I agree with Raymond, we need to keep having the snowest ride and the BBQ regardless of other things going on if at all possible.

Take care and good luck.
Jim

You can plan on a BBQ again this summer Jim.......and so long as your kids don't destroy my house they are welcome to come;)

...they just had a little fun in the planter beds, that's all. I made the mistake of laying new bark down 2 days before the party. Pretty sure half of that bark ended up inside the house.
