Unhappy 800D owner

Thank You

Thanks for the little note,it gets a little frustrating but in the end hopefully it all works out and we have a great trouble free season after this,Happy New Year All:)

diaelectric?? If you wipe all the grease off you should loose about 2pds, and gain some track speed- After I put the NGK racing plugs in I couldn't keep the skis down- I also mounted my sled deck to the back of my 163, so I could load my buddies broke XP's on the back.

now thats a very helpful post. extremely informative and helpful to those with the problem.

the XP comment is funny though, but other than that.

You will have to check with your state concerning a lemon law. Some states have them. In SD I think it was if your vehicle was in the shop for one full month out of the first year. I had a Yamaha that met that requirement. Anyway, get with your dealer and have him get on the horn with Polaris. Or try speaking with a customer service rep yourself. Don't get pissy, just let them know you are very dissappointed and they need to fix it asap.
With most of the sleds running good, I doubt it is anything serious. I would almost drain the fuel and start over just in case. Check all elec connections. How are the plugs looking? Might give an indication if it is related to the fuel injection. I can't believe your dealer has checked everything and come up with 0. I think they better start trying harder too.

Picked up my 800 by 163 on 12/27 from Spirit Lake Polaris in Grand Lake, CO. (Great guys to deal with.) Rode 60 miles then the cutting out started. Symptoms were a little different in that I could not get more than 6000 rpm no matter what throttle setting except for a few times. The motor would rap-out for 2 seconds then fall back to 6000 rpms during those few occasions-- not fall back but cut out until 6000 rpms. Tonite I took a look and I noticed all the electrical wires from the handlebars drop through the cowling, bend around a cross-member and are zip-tied to the steering shaft. The low oil sensor leads are also routed through this bundle and the pressure the zip-tie put on these leads caused the shaft to cut through the protective housing, into the insulation and only a couple of copper strands remained connected on the yellow wire going to the low oil sensor. I dont know if this is a short causing my problem and possibly others problems but it is worth checking. All of these wires should probably be secured to something other than the steering shaft. I will post if this solves my problem after a test ride tomorrow night.

Interesting thought.... My low oil sensor flickers off/on even though I filled it up with oil. Now I will go check the wiring.

Dragon Blues

Just a lttle update,we did have the complete wiring harness looked at and noticed some issues with where it was secured but sorry to say that was not the problem, others keep saying AWESOME machine we put on 70 or 80 miles, why yes as i said great machine up until 200 Miles then the cutting out did get alot worse to the point that we could no longer drive it (244miles tot),as for the plug caps that is not the issue and after speaking with Polaris today they still have no idea what is causing this,i spoke with 2 more people lastnight that are having the same issues one started at 340 miles the other at 260 miles,Thank You to everyone for their help
Getting more frustrated

hey dont know if it will help..but have the dealer check the DC voltages...cold and hot...heard the new injected sled is critical to have right voltages....

Mine also started flickering on my one and only ride, mine started after the impact that broke my leg.

cutting out

I have 400 miles on my 163 no cutting out yet but I do notice that if you are on and off the throttle to much or too quickly something that carbs can handle. the injection does not like it and it will cut out or bog for A brief moment ?

I was reading these posts last night and hoping that mine doesn't start doing this. I didn't mention a word about what I read and 2, thats 2 of my friends who just picked theirs up this past week were telling me about the cutting out that it is doing. One has 42 miles and the other has 84. If anyone ever comes up with a fix, please post.............

this sucks but it happens. Its like the bogging on the 7 dragon last year, sucked but an easy quick fix was found. Hopefull it will be a quick fix for those that develop this. I will turn mine upside down trying to figure it out if it happens to me. The dealers should be playing the swap game with another sled until the see the problem move from one machine to the other.... Has anyone called Lord Struthers? Good chance he could know what it is or figure it out quickly.

had my new 97 440 xc drop a cylinder then pick it back up again, right from new, even pitted beside the polaris factory race trailer in yellowstone in '97 for the finals in snow-x, worked great one day couldn't get it off the trailer the next. year later was determined to be the STATOR. my 2 cents.

I talk to my dealer today and he had talked to his rep. They had called around (Tri City) And they said that no one is having a problem but me?
Please call your delaers and have them contact Polaris!!!!!!!

About a month ago myself and three other guys rented four 08 RMK 700's and we had a similar issue with one of them. The plug wires kept coming loose and it would cut in and out intermittently. When I checked the plug wires the boot connection seemed really loose on the plug. Jiggled it a bit and it would work for a while until it worked itself loose again. Just a thought

I sh|t you not. I was boondocking behind a friend and the snow was so deep that I ended up hitting a tree with my left ski. The sled stopped and I just flew forward. I swore I broke my left leg, just above the shins and below my knee. That is when the oil light flickering started.

LOL! Very similar situations except my leg wasn't broken. :face-icon-small-con

I checked the wiring on mine. When the wiring goes throught the cowling, it passes through a hole in the bracket (not around bracket) and the wiring is NOT zipped tied to the steeering post. The bracket edges are very sharp. When moving the steering from side to side to would be very easy to scrape insulation off the wiring. I placed black duct tape in this area to protect the wiring harness. Sounds like sleds maybe put together a little different. I agree the wiring harness should not be zipped tied to the steering post. Hope this helps.

Just to give you an update we have run out of things to look at and the dealer has not been able to figure it out along with Polaris, does anyone know what our rights are as a customer or can Polaris drag this along till the end of the season without figuring it out,do we have the right to request our money back??????????? Please help me out:mad:

Well last year I was having a list of issues with my flatland 700 Dragon. Plug fouling, cold running, broken clutch spring,,,,,,,,, The main issue I was in need of fixing was the fuel map without voiding my warranty. 15+ plugs in 400 miles and 500cc running performance. I started being nice to my Dealer and Polaris both blew me off. Polaris also told me I was the only one with this problem but they (Polaris) had a team to deal with Dragon issues???. I was told they were working on it and I should have a fix shortly. Snow was gone for the year and the sled was sold when the fix was sent out. Still problems are out there even with the fix. These CFI run great as long as all the components fall into spec. I believe in is only a matter of time before most of the CFI have running issues of some type. You will be chasing your tail trying to find what’s wrong and Polaris is limited on resources to investigate. I am not here to bash Polaris, I was a true Polaris rider until last year. As mention above Polaris wants to keep this quiet and last year told me to "keep my mouth shut" "we don't need another 900 scare". I was also told "if I don't like my sled, just sell it". To answer your question no they will not buy it back unless a court tell them to. If you want t ride then deal with the problem (ride only at WFO) or get a spare. The IQ chassis is the best to ever hit the snow, too bad the CFI are lacking along with customer support. Polaris will be the first to talk about the low snow conditions and no sales while storing non-running customer's sleds at the Dealer. Just remember it is the first year model and you shouldn't get what you paid for. I have no information other than check every connector, sensor, electrical component, fuel pump, fuel line and pick-up.

I've got a 2008 800 155 Mine was fine at 4000-6000ft during Christmas. But came back home from the mountains (1000ft) (Changed the weights to 10-68's) and does the same cutting out at 6000rpm thing.
