Ultimate Boondocking Skis for M Series Sleds?

I spoke to two guys who both swear the MODS skis work better than anyhting thsy have ever tried.

The problem is, the MODS skis look like they will built in someone garage in 1985. I sure wish Slydog would buy MODS ski design and make the top look like the Powder Hounds. Then we'd have a good looking ski that actually works well.

For now, it sure sounds like the Powder Pros are the least of all evils.

MODS Rock!!!

this wasn't the thread I was looking for, he did a better write up somewhere I just didn't find it.

They do look like a good ski though, I might try a set?

The best ski I've found to date is MODS, followed by USI Triple Threats. For Boondocking through virgin powder with no base, hugging a sidehill, and having light steering WITH control makes the MODS the ski to own. I've not tried Powder Pros or the new wide Simmons ski, but the MODS are better then the Slydogs, C&A Outlaw Xt's, Simmons Gen 1, Stockers, USI Triple Threats or VX301's in almost every riding condition in my humble opinion. They were orginally designed and made in Sicamous B.C., and haven't changed the design since Lance purchased the company and moved it to the U.S. At least we have a distributor for them in Canada again.

Do the stock skis float well enough in the powder to maybe just add a Shaper carbide for a little more controllability?

I rode with them yesterday and thought they worked fairly well but, the snow wasn't epic by any means.

I just took off my Simmons Gen 2's and put on a pair of PPros. For where I ride the PPros are a better ski. Our snow is heavier so the Gen2's float wasn't necessary.

That was my first thought also. But when I found a good used pair of PP for about twice the cost of the shaper bars I just went that way instead. If you decide to try it let me know what you find out.
