Ultimate Boondocking Skis for M Series Sleds?

Good thread, think I'm sold on powder pros.

Do I have to buy all SLP's mounting hardware and carbides or will my stock ones work? Anybody selling powder pros for an M?

Powder Pros

If you need a set for the M series give me a call , your colors of choice.Yes you need to buy the ski saddles and carbides for the powder pros. I ship to canada all the time.

Frosty, I just rode an 09 M 1000 all day and I think the first thing to do is change the ski. By the way I could side hill at any given moment put that thing in places with out rubbing trees with minimal effort. These M sleds make you feel like a pro when tree docking. I would like to try the M8 next.

YNOTT55124 the Slydogs are one of the lightest at a little over 6lbs. 5 oz I do believe, Mfg claims 5.9 lbs. w/carbides and mounts. I lightened them up by cutting off the studs and reshaping the runners. Also used low profile locknuts. Made aluminum bushings and going to the 3/8 bolt that Polaris uses. Cats 7/16 is overkill too me! Then sanded the heck out of the front loop as it seemed too wide to grab onto. When done they weighed 5.75 lbs. complete. I only did this because they were not the weight that was advertised!

Thanks Handsome but, what skis are you referring to that seemed to work so well?

Thanks Man!

I have an 09 M8, hated the stock skis, tried simmons gen 1 and 2 on an 09 M. They were ok for my type of riding ( off trail boondocking, and limited trails) but still was not completly happy exp in off trail riding. I had a chance to ride an M8 with PP skis, hated them on the trail very agressive and darty to me, off trail they were ok. I now have a set of slydogs on. On my first ride I was not impressed they hunted and darted quite a bit on the trail and in off trail boondocking they didn't seem to be very responsive in turning. They did stay on top of the snow well. I then called Slydogs and asked what their recommendations were for sled setup in order to get these skis to work for me. They suggested that I tighten the limiter strap 1 hole and set the ski toe so they are strait. They explained the way the keel is designed they need slightly more ski pressure in order for them to work properly. I did this and went riding this weeked. Totally different skis this week. On trail handling was very good little or no hunting/darting and off trail the skis were very responsive in steering. I need to get more than 1 ride on them with this new setup but so far I am MUCH happier with them. At this point I put them neck and neck to the Simmons skis, need more riding time in different snow to see if they surpass them.

This sled still had the stock ski and it handled great up hill but down was a different story ( doesn't float and lots of steering effort ) so I don't know what ski to go with but I like the simmons on my doo.

I have a set of Slydog Powder hounds on my HCR that I have used one time and I was not happy. They did not want t carve in the powder and the did not side hill worth a darn. I will have to try a diff set up like stated above one day is not enough time to tell. I also have the the stock HCR ski and they are good on a trail and ok in left overs but they dive in the Pow. I like the stock M series ski the best of all 3. I have yet to try som Powder pros. I loved the Ppros on my rev. If any on wants my powder hounds pm me and I will sell or trade for a set of Slp Pow Pros.

Another vote for Powder Pros. I had them on an 06 M7 and 09 M8

They are aggressive in hard snow and the trail, but as stated you can turn

I thought stock skis were a joke, but I honestly think the Slydogs were worse. I rode an 06 M with a Timbersled rear and thought the Slydogs were absolutely terrible. The sled just flat out didn't turn.

I was wondering why my buddy was having such a hard time following me in the trees and and no wonder, you can't turn!!!!!!

The stock skis are pretty similar IMO.

I used to have C&A Pros(6" wide) on an EDGE RMK and they are even more aggressive then Powder Pros on the trail but also work well in the powder.

Its a trade off. Do you want a sled that is easy to turn the handlebars but you can't turn or sled that turns quickly but its hard to turn the bars?

Just my 2 cents

Guys, does anyone else have any new info on the best skis for the M series?

I read through everything again and it seems like the majority like the Powder Pros over all. Yes, some are better in the powder and some are better on the trail but, as an all around ski, the powder pro looks attractive.

I still would like to hear more info on the Slydogs (once the sled is detup for them) and the USI triple threat.

Nice, must be another 7th grader with a name like that.

I'm surprised you didn't pick Optimus Prime. Must have been taken, huh? :D

Why does there always have to be one in every crowd?

My vote goes to the powder pro's, as said eirlier they are agressive, maybe a little to agressive. The stearing effort is fairly low in my opinion, even though the do dart a little comared to others but easy to get used to.
The regular PPs are good but are MUCH better off trail and when they have been modified (rear outer edge trimmed, for better side hilling and not so nasty agressive on down hills). Carls Cycle sells them modified for no charge but can be done easily at home. I ran both PPs and modified PPs on my modded Pol 900 159 and loved the modified PPs better. Tried standard PPs on my 07 Tm1000 and liked them, modified them and liked them much better. Just my .02

and this is coming from frosty the frig'n snowman LOL get real

I have the Powder pros. I have the 07' M8 and here is what I found. When I had the 4-wheel kit on the rear of the skid I was very happy with the skis. When I went to the 2-wheel kit, the skis would bite when laying the sled on it's side. I tried the Carl's cut and I am very happy again. I did notice that Carl's starting doing this cut when Poalris went to the 2-wheel kit on the Dragon's. I would recommend them to most people. Oh, and carbides make a huge difference!!! I like the 6-1/4" by 90 degree. 60 degree is more agressive as is the 9-1/2" length for snowcross.

Hey Frosty, My buddy and I both bought new M8's at the same time. We rode them in the Snowies powder a couple weeks ago, mine with stock skis and his with Powder Pro's. To make a long story short...I have some PP coming for mine! HUGE difference! The stock skis suck! Yes the PP are a little darty on the trail but who cares...you can actually go around a corner without fear of blowing straight off it into the trees!
